Currently, I tutor students from different countries, including Colombia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Peru to help them in college and business. In Peru and Mexico, I taught ESL full-time to adults, college students, and high school students. The classes ranged from basic English where the students had little to no English experience to advanced business conversation among nearly fluent ESL speakers.

About Jackie
Hi! My name is Jackie, and I have 15+ years of experience in teaching, tutoring, and training. Currently, I am enjoying managing two small businesses while teaching students part time.

All of my students, meaning a perfect 100%, have improved their grades by at least one letter grade, if not more, and passed every one of their tests and exams. I help ALL my clients reach their goals!

A couple years ago, I returned to San Diego after living in Peru for several years where I taught English as a second language. My students ranged from adult business people and academicians to primary and secondary school students. I really needed to utilize different teaching methods depending on each student’s needs. Some students wanted more business-related conversation, so I had to be able to teach business principles in marketing, communication,
logistics, interviewing, and so much more. Critical thinking was an area that I pushed my business students to improve. Other students needed to work on the basics of grammar, reading, and writing, and we had a lot of fun in class, whether going through the interactive lesson or improvising by playing fun games to emphasize thinking on their feet in another language.

The feedback I often received from my Peruvian students, as well as my students in Mexico and the U.S., was that I made learning an enjoyable experience—they wanted to work harder to advance quickly in their classes. All of my students agree that I have a lot of patience and turn even the most challenging lessons into ones of positivity and encouragement. I provide critical feedback in the most constructive of ways that help the students reach conclusions on their own. I enjoy being there to support and guide their experience!

Before I left for Peru, I worked at St Vincent de Paul Village (part of Father Joe's Villages) in downtown San Diego. There I focused on Health Education. I built the Villages' first Health Education department and helped start its innovative Health & Wellness program. As part of these two programs, I taught homeless and low-income adults with and without learning disabilities, as well as children from preschoolers to high school students. Teaching such a wide variety of students how to improve their health while living in sometimes precarious situations without much income or stability pushed me to think creatively and come up with memorable ways to engage the students and help them apply what they had learned in their daily routine.

In high school, I took all AP and college prep classes. I went to a liberal arts college in Virginia where I focused on social studies and biology. I spent a few years training business people in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, InDesign, as well as presentation techniques. In grad school, I specialized in applied anthropology and public health. During that time, I tutored students in web design. In between, I've worked in Communications and Training in international health and development, so I have a lot of experience to bring to teaching.

Basically, I love teaching. I'm enthusiastic yet patient, and I absolutely adore helping kids and adults alike learn. It's such a sense of accomplishment when my students show off their terrific grades. I see the same look in my students’ eyes regardless of age—that pride that shines from within, that exuberant smile, like they can conquer anything. I want my students to keep that pride for a long, long time.

Right now, I'm writing two textbooks to be used in my Spanish classes. I've also written several academic articles published online. I love traveling, cats, and learning!

After working with all levels of ESL ( English as a Second Language) students in the Netherlands for 15 years and now back in the USA with Asian college students since 2015, I am confident in my ability to help anyone to speak, hear, read and write English in a professional manner and level optimally. My Dutch students have won regional public speaking awards to participate nationally and with an extensive performing arts background, I am most expert in boosting any student's performance as an English speaker and/or writer in whatever subject my students choose.

About Abby
Due to my maternal grandfather's work as a Chicago vaudeville orchestra leader, from early childhood, the performing arts have been in my blood. Starting to study classical flute at age 12, then playing in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras and taking professional jazz/classical flute workshops/master classes, I've been teaching and playing all styles of music professionally since my 20's.

Vocal study began at age 15 with some great artists/educators in SF, Seattle, and Europe, including Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Adrian West from NYC Broadway, David Tigner- SF Opera, Davida Kagan-Seattle Opera, and Roland Wyatt-
Manhattan Transfer coach /NY Academy of Dramatic Arts. Through many teaching years, I've developed a very successful, uniquely simple 8 part method to help cross cultural individuals and groups sing optimally from thei
r hearts. For all levels from beginners to professional. the necessary basic vocal techniques can be taught effectively in 4 to 8 lessons, though the process of becoming a successful artist continues during one's lifetime.

With a BA in Theater Arts from SFSU, and over 50 years directing, acting, and musical experience, including 15 years working successfully as an ESL educator, my experience has allowed me to help any student achieve their personal and/or professional goals.

Abby is an excellent teacher. She tried her best to help me understand English by providing me examples, explaining detail, revising grammar, and so on. Besides teaching me English, she shared her own experiences with me. She told me how people can get through difficulties.
She is not only a real teacher in English, but also in life.

Abby van Spronsen is an excellent teacher, who has helped me develop my voice and musical style before and during my Conservatory studies. She really takes time for her students and because of her musical background she knows about many different styles, from jazz to pop to musical and even classical music. She knows how to use this knowledge well in her classes and loves to teach, which makes her a very inspiring voice teacher. I have learned a lot during the time that I took classes from Abby.

Despite my education and experience, I also understand how to teach and learn language because this is exactly what I have been doing since I was 5. I can promise that after first class I will be able to see what we should work on. I have been collecting teaching materials for years, therefore the classes won't be boring :) I believe that one speaks freely when he talks about his areas of interest and this is why I always try to personalize my classes. I am flexible when it comes to the schedule. Hence, do now wait! Contact me and let's learn some English!

About Magdalena
My teaching history started after I earned Bachelor Degree in English language. First, I just had a few private students in order to get some extra cash (student life ;)). Then I realized how much happiness it brings to my life and I started working with 3 different private schools. After I obtained my Master Degree in English linguistics I also started working for a private kindergarten as an 'English nanny'.

I believe that one never stops learning a language and this is why I decided to move to the USA to get familiarize with the teaching approaches and methodology as well as to live the language and its culture. Being a teacher for me is not only sharing my knowledge about the language but also gaining the knowledge my students are willing to give me. I was surprised myself how much I knew about the interests and mortgages when I was
a tutor in Deutsche Bank in Warsaw :)

I have 4 year experience as a ELT teacher. My student were both children and adults and I always found a common ground with every one of them. Since I mastered in English linguistics, definitely grammar and speaking (pronunciation) are my favorite areas of the language.

Hi y'all! I'm a licensed English/ESL teacher in Texas, and I have taught ESL/Language Arts all over the world (Hungary, Croatia, Italy, Mexico, and South Korea). I do not specialize in a special age group or skill level; I can help everyone from kindergarten to college, beginner to advanced. I made lessons engaging and fun, while using real-life practice examples. Through my 8 years of experience, I have helped hundreds of students strengthen their English skills, and I'd love to help you too.

About Genevieve
Being a licensed teacher in the State of Texas in both English/Language Arts, Reading, and ESL, I feel incredibly comfortable working with students of any age and skill level. I'm fully versed in state standards and expectations for students and I'm capable of helping you develop your skills!

Here's a bit about my teaching experience:
After graduating from Washington State University with a BA in English. I moved to Gyula, Hungary, where I taught ESL to 10-19 year olds at a local middle/high school. After two wonderful years there, I moved to Budapest, Hungary to teach American Culture/ESL at a prestigious technological high school, while I simultaneously earned my MA in International Relations and European Studies from Central European University. From there, I spent the next 4 years traveling the world teaching English to students o
f all ages. I particularly enjoyed working with kindergarteners in South Korea and Hospitality College students in Mexico.

I had a wonderful time learning with Adriana before my recent trip to Italy. It was my first time, and I thought it would be nice to know some useful phrases before I went. Not only is Adriana an excellent teacher of the Italian language (I was only able to just tap into her expertise given the little time I gave us before my trip), but she also has extensive knowledge of Italian culture. My time in Italy was so much more meaningful thanks to our lessons. I can't recommend her highly enough! Buon divertimento!
