Melody is a wonderful piano teacher. She taught my daughter for 2 months before she moved. My daughter learned several pieces of music which she performed at the recital. It was her first recital and she was nervous but Melody encouraged her and gave her the confidence to perform!

I highly recommend Miss Melody as a piano and voice teacher for young children. She is very well respected. Her passion in teaching music is shown through her enthusiasm and patient approach. She has developed a program and teaching techniques that are always age and skill level appropriate. She encourages her students throughout the lesson, providing just the right amount of urging to keep trying and not give up. Her goal is to let the student enjoy and appreciate the art of playing and singing. My daughter has taken both the piano and voice lessons for 2 years and our family has joined 3 music recitals, all professionally done and very well prepared. As she moves to DC, it is my great pleasure to recommend Miss Melody and I am so happy to tell you what a wonderful, caring and talented teacher she is that you won't be disappointed. Your children will look forward to their time with her. You sure will be learning from one of the best!

I enrolled my 8 year old grand daughter and 10 year old grandson for piano and singing during their family visit with us, which lasted two weeks. Each of them had eight lessons in total and for that span of time they have learned how to read notes and count patiently. They also learned to play other instruments such as maracas, chimes, etc. It was so nice of Ms Melody to be able to conduct a studio mini recital just for the two of them. It is really amazing how my grandkids has learned so much from her. When I found out she is moving, I knew it will be hard to find somebody like her who is not just a very good teacher, but you can tell that she loves the kids and teaching comes very easy for her. Thank you Ms Melody for your good heart. As other reviewer said she will be missed, surely she will. I remember my grand daughter’s exact words when we left after their last lesson, ”Ms Melody is really very nice grandma. I like her so much!”

About Susan
Acting – I have taught all kinds of acting, including Audition Skills, Shakespeare, Stage, Film & TV, Dramatic, Comedic, whatever. I also have quite a bit of experience performing in all those arenas. I have a relationship with one of the best management agencies in the area, so my students get fast-tracked with her.

Voice – Anyone can sing. If you want to and have always thought you couldn't, you will be delighted when I prove you wrong. Training for the voice is pretty much the same, whatever style you are interested in. Then I'll coach you in your chosen style and we'll pick songs you like.

Singing beautifully is not enough. I can't tell you how many times I heard in grad school "beautiful voices are a dime a dozen." I will teach you how to OWN the song. That's what keeps people coming back.

Speaking – Every public spe
aker I know has lost their voice at some point, but not from talking too much. It's because they don't know how to use their voice properly. Learn that, and you need never lose your voice to over-use. That's easy to teach.

Writing – I have been a professional writer and editor for over eight years, with many books, articles, posts, newsletters, etc. to my name. I use – and teach – practical grammar, not just correct grammar. I can also help you make your words more powerful.

I've been taking lessons with Susan Scher for about two months now. I can easily say I've been impressed at how much I've improved. I look forward to lessons every week. I feel that soon enough I'll be able to audition for roles in film and television. If you live in the Baltimore area and are interested in voice acting or any acting in general. Contact her and go, you won't be disappointed.

I did not know what to expect when I signed up to take classes with Susan. I decided to take classes with her for two reasons: Her studio is not far from me and 2, the good reviews left by her clients. All I wanted was to learn the fundamentals and techniques about acting. Susan was excellent and very patient. She offered water in each lesson, which is also very kind. Her interpersonal connection brings a sense of comfort. Her studio is very neat and welcoming. I do not have regrets in my selections and I know you won't be disappointed too.

Gregory is a fantastic acting coach and all around awesome person. Our son (age 11) has been working with him and has learned such great techniques that he can take with him to every audition. Greg doesn't stick to one teaching method, he adapts to what our son needs and uses language that is helpful for him. We have seen significant improvement in our son's abilities in just a few lessons with Greg. Highly recommend!!

Took my first performance class with Gregory (after decades away), a Hamlet Scene Study. Class was a nice size (14 people), diverse in age and previous experience, several of them were returning to Gregory's class for a second time, and it was just fantastic. Several of the folks had done some professional work, some were plotting an escape from a current non-theatre career into acting, quite a few were active participants in community theatre here in DC, and some were just passionate about The Bard, reading and analyzing the text, and deepening their understanding of the work. I marveled at how well he addressed all his students, meeting them at their level, whatever that was. He created a very welcoming environment, lots of humor, lots of physicality, open-mindedness, and it was just fascinating to see each scene study pairing, no matter what their level, improve their performance of the scene after some direction and creative input from Gregory, as well as the other students. Highly recommend. I plan to take his class again as soon as convenient, and maybe other classes as well.

Gregory Wooddell is a phenomenal acting teacher and coach. I have taken many classes with him, and I have also had private lessons from him. He works with everyone at whatever level they are at, and he makes excellent, insightful, and understandable suggestions to improve the acting. And there is always a very noticeable improvement. Gregory is fair, patient, and always encouraging. He creates a safe and fun environment for students.

About Shaleena
Shaleena began her dance training at Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Center in New York at the age of three, where she studied African dance, ballet, and tap. She continued her training in California and later Maryland where her repertoire expanded to include jazz dance.

While attending Hampton University, she studied various art forms such as Katherine Dunham, Isadora Duncan and Martha Graham. However, her passion was deeply rooted in African dance. Upon her return to Maryland to continue her education in psychology at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), she began taking West African dance at KanKouran West African Dance studio in Washington, D.C. Shaleena studied under renowned artist such as Assane Konte (Artistic Director of KanKouran) and Kadiatou Conte-Forte (Artistic Director of Balafon African Dance Ensemble).

Af
ter graduating from UMBC, Shaleena joined Soul In Motion, an African Drum and Dance Company in Mt. Rainier, MD. She choreographed and danced with Soul In Motion for five years and performed at various venues such as Dance Africa DC, Black Rock Center for the Arts, MD, Montgomery County Government in MD and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Presently, she is the Research Director for Soul In Motion. She continued her passion for dance with Adande African Dance & Drum Company in Charleston, SC. She taught African dance classes at Spirit Moves in Charleston, SC. While completing her Masters in Business at Strayer University, she further pursued her passion and joined Wona Womalan West African Drum & Dance Ensemble. For Wona Womalan, she choreographed dances that have been performed at Piccolo Spoleto Charleston, North Charleston Arts Festival, Moja Arts Festival, US Airforce Base, Naval Weapons Station, Charleston Open Arts Expo, Penn Center Heritage Festival in Beaufort, South Carolina Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, Florida African Dance Festival, and various schools. As well, Shaleena conducted a co-dance residency at Charleston County School of the Arts. Everyday movement inspires her choreography. I am a professional actress in the Washington, DC area. I am currently apart of the Teaching Artist company at the Smithsonian Institutes Discovery Theater. As a recent graduate at Point Park University with a BFA in Acting, my goal is to give back through my art. As an instructor it is my intention to encourage the student to use the art as a tool for how to navigate through the world.

My acting students become more aware of their bodies and minds, which helps them become more aware in the world around them. It is not solely about the words that are "memorized" in a play, however it is about the internal experience each character has, and ultimately how it changes the actor.

Using the combined methods of Stanislavsky, Meisner, and Michael Chekhov, I will aid my students to freedom in their imaginations, body and mind!

About Hannah
Dance has been a part of my life for 20 years! I began lessons when I was in kindergarten and it was love at first sight. I danced and competed through high school but a series of injuries kept me from pursuing a professional career in college. Instead, I pursued a degree in history while teaching for a local competition studio. My dancers frequently placed top 10 in the national circuit and my choreography and costume designs received several awards.

During college, I discovered theatre and began to merge my love of self-expression and story telling with the dance technique I had practiced for so long. This helped me discover a unique and personalized style of choreography that gave me opportunity to help my students develop not only a love of dance, but also confidence, healthy self-expression, and communication skills.

After
college, I worked towards my MA in War, Media, and Society while continuing to do freelance choreography. After moving to DC in 2016 to work as a legislative assistant, I missed dance too much and knew I needed to find a way to fit it into my life! I began teaching private ballet and creative movement classes for my first client and absolutely loved being able to share my knowledge and love for this art form on a one-on-one basis with my students.

I have 5 years of experience teaching beginner ballet and creative movement, and 4 years teaching the following: ballet for ages 5-18, pointe for ages 13-18, jazz & musical theatre for ages 5-18, and tap for ages 5-12. I have a wide variety of choreography experience for solo, duet, trio, small, and large groups of all ages in ballet, pointe, contemporary, and character jazz.

I believe teaching dance is so much more than pointing toes and making beautiful lines (although those things are certainly important). I want to help my students develop important life skills, communicate feelings through movement, and learn to use the art of dance as a healthy outlet for stress and communication.

I am an award-winning, working actor with over 10 years professional stage and screen experience in classics to world premiere plays at Ford's Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, Woolly Mammoth, Kansas City Rep, SIgnature Theatre, Round House, Center Stage, and Everyman Theatre (Company Member), with awards including Best Actor at the Reel Indpendent Extravaganza in DC for the feature film LAST NIGHT, now streaming on Amazon, Best Supporting actor at NOVA Fest in Virginia for the short film RUMINATION, and the Helen Hayes Best Ensemble for WHO's AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? at Ford's Theatre.

My approach is to immediately dive in with an unmemorized text--a monologue, short scene, poem, clipping, citation, phone book--and learn script analysis, memorization, character intention, action, persona, need, with an emphasis on developing a method unique
to you, the actor.

Each lesson will be tailored towards your instinctual responses to direction. I believe acting is a very vulnerable art if done right, and creative expression can most often be found in a safe environment for risk through play. Ultimately my classes are to shape you, as the actor, with an insight into why that is important both artistically and psychologically.

Further lessons will also include practical approaches to the business aspects of an actor's career, actor health both physically and mentally, and college audition prep.
