About Patrick
The Vocal Artist

A rare 'natural' tenor, Patrick's range and versatility are evidenced throughout his work. From Bach Cantatas to Broadway tunes, he's even dared to sing Denver, bringing audiences to tears with his own rendition of Annie's Song. He is a torch song tenor, a la Rondstadt's 'Round Midnight but with the power and passion of Pavarotti.

Like most classically-trained tenors, Patrick can list many of the master works among his repertoire. Starting with Michigan Opera Theatre's Opera-in-Residence program, he performed in Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus and The Mikado and others. In Detroit & Windsor Ontario, he performed Bach, Schubert, Handel, Dubois, Mozart and Dvorak. While Patrick's early career focused on classical sacred performances, his real passion is to re-create traditional music in new ways. He recorded his
first two albums with composer Yves Vincent of San Diego, California in genre-stretching new-age/classical style.

After relocating to Tucson, Arizona, as music director for his church, he encouraged a variety of styles and genres to be used by the musicians and choirs of each of five weekend Masses.
Later, in Illinois, he directed another 60 voice parish choir that frequently performed with orchestras from Illinois State & Wesleyan Universities. His voice students in all these locations have been encouraged to explore and develop their own unique expression of their favorite music, while building on a solid foundation of technique, vocal strength and musicianship.

Now that Patrick has relocated one more time to Los Angeles, CA, he is working on a 3rd and 4th CD and once again accepting students. He enjoys the opportunity to expose young & older talent to the power and passion of classical music while also helping them create ways to make it new and exciting by reinterpreting it with their own favorite genres.

Lessons

Patrick's passion for teaching comes from his philosophy of music:
"Music is humanity's most evolved form of expression and communication. Music includes language, our physical senses, and our sense of meaning. With music, ordinary language is ultimately transcended. Words communicate from mind to mind; music communicates to the depth of the soul."

Patrick teaches and encourages young beginners as well as coaching and challenging seasoned professionals. He has even taught a hearing-impaired student to use physical sensation rather than sound to sing on pitch! He focuses on fundamentals of breath, technique and strength to help singers take care of their irreplaceable instrument. (Patrick's own vocal coach, Edward Kingins, continues to perform and move audiences in Detroit well in to his 70s!) Along with helping students build a strong foundation, he nurtures a love and commitment to music by working with students in the style and genre they enjoy most, from rock to pop, jazz or country.

Patrick also has unique insight into the entertainment industry, both in Los Angeles and across the country. Over the years, he has been associated with and close friends with musicians and actors such as John Denver and Richard Hatch as well as sought-after speakers Tom Crum and W Mitchell. Since locating to L.A., he has worked in independent movies with Damian Chapa and David Carradine as an actor and production assistant and coordinator. This experience, coupled with his own success on stage and as a recording artist helps him guide and advise serious young talent to maneuver the crazy environment of Hollywood and avoid the scams and pitfalls of the entertainment industry.

Beginning Lesson Outline

My Basic lesson outline is to determine where we are starting with each student and custom make lessons designed to fit the needs for that student. We will also work on meditation and visualization techniques for performance. The idea is for you to feel the words and sing with passion or so your audience believes your song.

Unlike other instruments, your voice cannot be replaced if it is damaged. I take the time needed through each step of the process so your voice is strengthened and developed properly. It is up to the student to practice and apply what is learned and build a trained, strong instrument that will be useable for your whole life.

You will learn:

Proper breathing techniques and practice.
Properly warming up the voice.
Working on music theory (reading music, etc.)
Ear training and pitch.
Expression, phrasing and performing.
Applying techniques learned to music suitable for student's capabilities.
Learning to have fun and enjoy the music experience.
Confidence and self-esteem

Depending on student's progress, specific lesson components above will be emphasized so that the student's goals will be achieved.
My goal is to prepare you to the best of my ability for you to achieve your dreams.

*** Studio Equipment ***

*** Travel Equipment ***

Awesome!

I needed to practice a solo for my Easter Vigil Psalm performance, and he helped me take care of my instrument, taught me great exercises, and gave me good advice about my career. He is a very nice instructor. He will help you grow as a singer and performer, and you always learn something new everyday with him...I highly recommend him to everyone because he really knows music theory.

"From your mouth to Patrick's ear*...

I was looking for an experienced and patient teacher, one who really listens, and am lucky enough to be able to work with Patrick. He not only hears the singing, but has the flexibility and talent to adapt to the needs and concerns of the singer. Highly recommended. *"From your mouth to G*d's ear," is a Jewish expression meaning, "May what you just said be true!"

To be honest I've never acted a day in my life before. Tamika was absolutely wonderful in helping me calm my (obvuously) nervous self, and worked with what I naturally brought to the stage and highlighted my own attributes. By the time I had opening night, I felt more comfortable than presenting to a bunch of investors (which is my day job). Thank you again Tamika, for really helping me develop skills and traits for the acting stage even I didn't know I had in me! I loom forward to working with you again soon!

I was recently in a play titled “Why Does It Hurt So Bad?” with Tamika as an Artist Development teacher. She was extremely helpful when it came to knowing how to project your voice, emoting and becoming the character that you are portraying. Tamika was very professional and she always helped wherever she could. Tamika always gave great advice and how you can improve your craft as an actor. Everyone in the play took note of what Tamika was saying and applied it in the next rehearsal, getting better and better every time. This is the reason why the play was so successful. I will definitely keep in contact with her to keep perfecting my craft and to see if there’s a way that I can take acting lessons from her. Thank you so much Tamika. You’re AWESOME and so TALENTED!

About Sarah
Hello and Welcome!
My name is Sarah and I am honored you have chosen to look at my profile. Finding the right teacher is so important! I always try to make sure that I accommodate what is best for the student when I approach teaching. Now a bit about me! I graduated from Lees-McRae College in May 2017 with a BFA in musical theater and a minor in art and design. I know at a glance it may be overwhelming how many classes I teach. You see as Musical Theatre Major I had to learn all about dance, makeup, singing, acting, and all of the sub categories that go with it; not to mention with my minor in art and design I know my way around with a paint brush. Art, in all forms are has always been my way of expressing, feeling, and embracing life. I took an internship at the Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre and I had to learn ALL aspects of
theatre and work with kids every day.

I was training American Sign Language at Northern Virginia Community College back in 2012. In 2015 I studied under an ASL master from Gallaudet University. I have continued to further my knowledge of ASL every day. I was recently the ASL captain at work who helped make sure all signs were done correctly and expressed properly.

My goal is to help you learn what you are craving to know! I try to not charge too high for lessons, I know that this is something that is for fun and is not always a possibility so I try to keep it at a lowish price so that everyone has a chance to learn. I am very flexible to schedules. I am willing to have a regular time or switching it up weekly; I have students who travel for a living so they are always on a different time zone; no matter the obstacle I will make it work for you!
Something that is great to know about me is that I never stop training, pursuing growth and knowledge. I read books in these various fields to learn more and more, take master classes, and train with my own vocal coaches. I think art - on any platform, is a great way to get out of your head, free your mind, and open up yourself. So this can be for professional training, a hobby you always wanted to pursue, or a dream you wanted to chase after.

In my class with you, or you child, I will make an individualized lesson plan that focus around what skills you already have, what skills you aim to improve/gain, and how you learn. I am very familiar with the fact that we are ALL different, which means we will all learn DIFFERENTLY. I am willing to explain something in as many ways as one needs in order to understand. I like to think of my lessons as a “safe place” to explore, have fun, grow, and be okay with making mistakes. We will always start with the basics, understand the core of the craft - for example in singing that would be our vocal anatomy and how it all connects together. I use props to help make the concept more visual and graspable as well as diagrams. This is not something someone will pick up in one lesson, so don’t come in saying “I can’t”, you can, you just have to learn HOW. I will show you the how. Remember, this is a learning process, we must embrace each step of our growth.
-----
Some background of how I came to do what I do:
I have been working professionally for theatres for five years now; which has had me living in various towns in NC, OH, AR, and traveling nationwide for tours. I have a lot of experience under my belt for my years. I began taking performance classes as young as age 2 when I started ballet, then I began singing in choir in third grade. I started being in awe of sign language when I saw an interpreter working her magic around age ten and I asked my mom for a sign language book. Expanding my knowledge is what I do for fun, so when you pick me you pick someone who is constantly growing and learning more which will ultimately benefit the student.

I teach a variety of classes that, for the most part, circle around the arts! Some of my classes include, but are not limited to: Acting, Child Acting, Improv Audition Prep, Various styles of “Singing” classes, Ear Training, Musical Theatre, Music Performance, Various “Art” classes, Facial Exercises (Which is great for singers, and those who speak a lot day to day to help relieve tension in the face), and more!
For an explanation on each class, I will be recording a video that describes them and posting that on here soon! There is a video trailer of me singing and dancing that is currently available. If you want to know anything more at all please do not hesitate to send me a message and I will respond as quickly as I possibly can!

Ureka showed great enthusiasm, personality, and clarity. Her moves are graceful to watch and try to emulate. Verbal cues for cadence and emphasis are very helpful. About Lily
I have over ten years of stage and screen acting experience. Not only do I have BFA in Acting from Oklahoma City University, but I also studied at The Atlantic Theater Company and New York University. Unlike a lot of other acting teachers, I am also a writer. I have written and directed a feature film, a webseries, and authored two produced plays (and one musical!). I truly know the business inside and out.

My second career as a writer lends me a unique perspective in developing a performance: I understand the writing process. When it comes to script analysis, we can work smart, not hard. By asking a few simple questions about what the writer's intentions were when crafting a character and a scene, we can lay down a baseline and discover moments from there. I don't believe you need pages and pages of script analysis to make a performa
nce great, just a curious and open mind.

I'd love to help you refine your material, whether it be for an audition or just to hone your craft. If you're in need of a college audition coach, I am very well-versed in that area. I know how hard and confusing it can be, and I'm here to help! I mostly work with kids and teens, but if you're an adult who is just starting out, that's great too! Come one, come all.

I love to work in a relaxed environment with no pressure. Acting can sometimes get intense, but I always reign it in so nothing gets out of control. I believe that people do their best work when they're comfortable, open, and not scared of judgement. I assure you that I can provide an environment that will foster all of those elements.

Feel free to send me a message and ask me any questions you may have!
