I’m a graduate of the University of Southern California, with my MAT in TESOL, and a B.A. in Dramatic Arts/Entrepreneurship. I’m thankful to have been awarded USC’s Jack Nicholson Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Actor. I use my theatre arts background to teach reading strategies, pronunciation, vocabulary, effective academic writing, and speaking.

For pronunciation, I work to make your listeners understand you better, placing an emphasis on the proper intonation and stress patterns.

For writing, we'll practice opening essays with a hook, closing memorably, elaborating on points, choosing a powerful thesis, and writing under pressure.

About Shaheed
Shaheed is a graduate of the University of Southern California, with a Master of Arts in Teaching- TESOL, a B.A. in Dramatic Arts (Jack Nicholson Award winner), and a minor in Entrepreneurship. He has taught EFL & ESL learners and teachers in China, Los Angeles, Malaysia, and South Korea, plus facilitated workshops in Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Thailand. As an English Language Fellow with the U.S. Department of State (2014-2016), he worked directly with the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, local teachers, students, and education professionals to enact meaningful and sustainable changes in the way English was taught. In 2017, he taught at Irvine Valley College, helping adult-ESL students develop the language skills they needed in order to thrive in the United States. From 2018-2019, he was the Senior Teacher at Aidi Middl
e School in Beijing. Currently, Shaheed teaches reading and speaking to Chinese preschool-elementary school students online with VIPKid, and has taught more than 800 students over the past year.

Shaheed had the opportunity to teach Business English at University Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), the only entrepreneurship university in Malaysia. He also worked on curriculum development, facilitated over 100 workshops throughout six countries in Southeast Asia, trained teachers, coached Ministry of Education officials, and supported the U.S. Embassy’s English ACCESS Microscholarship program. During his time as a Fellow, he started the edcamp “unconference” movement in Malaysia, presented at regional TESOL conferences, and won Gold for “Best Workshop” at the International Conference on English Language Teaching (ICELT). In 20 months, he taught 3,006 students and trained 2,940 teachers in the East Asia and Pacific region.

I like to view the classroom as a place for exchanging knowledge with the students in a friendly atmosphere that encourages the students to learn English in a desirable environment away from the imposition of the traditional teaching settings.
My teaching philosophy aims at teaching English through developing critical thinking about the topic by viewing all possible aspects of it. Multiple results of this strategy include increasing knowledge of the world and discovering more about the students’ own personal characteristics, in addition to improving their English and developing creative thinking. One good technique to achieve these objectives is working on building students’ growth mindset. This can be maintained through emphasizing challenges that teach students to search for new knowledge and explore more insights.

About Azza
Hello,
My name is Azza. I am happy to be your teacher and work with you in a friendly environment that helps you improve your English and knowledge of the world. I have a PhD in TESL and Linguisitcs from Oklahoma State University and I wrote two books titled Developing Creative Thinking to Improve Academic Writing. I am positive that working with you will teach both of us new knowldge and life experience.
Thank you.
