Are you an adult who always wished you could play or sing? Or a homeschooler who wishes you had music for your child?
Do you wish you or your child could just sit down and play the music you feel?
Is fear or uncertainty stopping you from playing in front of others?
Have you written some great song lyrics and just need help with the music?
Do you live far away from a good selection of teachers?
Maybe we should be talking. We make it easy to study online, from anywhere in the world.
Children don't learn to read before they can talk. So why should anyone have to try to read before they play or sing?
That is how music has been taught for many years, andone reason why many students just quit or had a miserable time with piano lessons. Music should be fun. Period.
We use m
usic to help you find your own voice. When you find your voice, the rest of you is not far behind.
We help people to overcome any fears they may have about playing. We simply help you to find your confidence. Many people are afraid to express themselves because of negative comments from a family member or friend. We help you move far past that and get to your own voice, free of worries.
It has been said that playing only from sheet music is like only being able to talk when you are reading it from a book.
We help people to play and sing by ear.
Yes, learning to read music brings you wonderful music from some great composers. But there is so much more.
First, we find out how you learn and what you are interested in. Life is just different when you get in touch with the music inside you. Sure, it is some work, but it is very satisfying! I love to help people do this!
All that said, reading musical notes is like your alphabet. When was the last time you had to ponder the alphabet when you wanted to speak? Once you know the alphabet, you just forget it and move on, to words, stories and communication. Music is a language as well.
Everybody loves music. How will you find yours? It’s different for everyone. Maybe you want to sing like that great pop singer you love, or play keyboard. Some people write songs. In all cases, the keyboard helps you to understand all about music.
Bach used to improvise all the time. Why shouldn't you?
SONGWRITERS: If you write songs, just bring in an idea and we will record it. We set a tempo and a key, and get your basic groove looped, all in about two minutes. Then we lay down the chords and a bass part and you sing a reference vocal. You can easily lay out a song in a one-hour session. Then it is easy to see how to produce it. It is amazing to go home with a recording of your song that did not exist in the world until you gave it a voice!
Along the way, you become a better writer, singer and/or keyboard player. You will learn to play by ear. And have a LOT of fun. You can do this online too.
ONLINE SESSIONS You create a rough sketch and we track it, with your input. We can help you to set up your own songwriter studio as well. If you get Logic software at your end, you can put on phones and cut a vocal with me producing you. Seriously, great fun. ;0)
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: “...an amazing instructor...inspiring mentor...compassionate.” “...a lot of patience.” “My son's love for music has come from Randy.” “...positive attitude and friendly personality.” “...wildly entertaining.” “ ...will teach you in a way that will make you want to learn.” “We look forward to our lesson every week!”
"Randy, I like your "Semper Method of Music” teaching method. It's applying knowledge with fun, and common sense... the best combination. Good luck. You’re a great musician." Joe Messina, Motown recording guitarist & Funk Brother
SONGLab Your music. Instantly. We use recording as a powerful tool to help you listen and improve. Tired of crappy tabs? Struggling to capture your song? No worries. Learn a process, instead of a lesson. Apply it anywhere.
Go from musical idea to music, fast. Get to the groove in 2 minutes or less. In any software.
SONGLab Studio. The antidote to rote.
SCHEDULING: Please note: If the particular time you had in mind is listed as unavailable, don’t worry. Between working online and two locations, I am very flexible and will work hard to make our schedules click.
SPECIAL NEEDS? Everyone's needs are special. If your child has been diagnosed ADHD or ASD, music can be a joyful and rewarding way to see real growth and make a wonderful experience for parent and child. We help with the Proprioceptive and Vestibular senses in a fun and therapeutic way.
Just Google "BrainVolts" for a tremendous study from Northwestern University on the amazing effects of music study!
Playing by Ear Pretty much everyone can play by ear. So we help you to find your own voice, reach your musical goals and to create and perform music as a real and beautiful part of your life.
Making music should not be a boring job. Rather, it should be something you can't wait to do. A way to get in touch with the rest of the universe. You will also learn to read and write, but it won't get in the way of your music.
Since a very young age I have loved to improvise and to create music. It is very satisfying to pass this on to others who are full of music inside but may not know how to get it out. If you wish that you or your child could get some help creating your own music as well as playing the great music already written, perhaps we should be talking.
I am from Canada, and I have been a professional musician since 1970. I studied music performance in school, piano with the Royal Conservatory of Toronto and Music Education at Queens University. I have toured with national acts, produced dozens of recordings of all kinds and played, arranged and conducted music on cruise ships all over the world.
Music is my life. Bringing other people's skills to a higher level is what I do best.
Tell me what you want to accomplish, either for yourself or your child. I look forward to speaking with you. Warm regards, Randy
PS: A note about allergens: I teach online and at my home and my studio. At home we have two very friendly dogs and a cat (Julian) who sleeps all day. If you have allergies, we will study at the Troy studio which is allergen-free. Unless you love animals. In that case, you will get to meet Vinnie & Buddy, the two most kid-friendly, loves-everybody, most gentle little guys you will ever meet. I put Vinnie's picture up so you can see him.
Teaching teachers Several excellent teachers I know who have been teaching music for many years were frustrated by not being able to play without a sheet of music. They have found satisfying and positive results from this approach.
Wouldn't it be great to be gifted? In fact... It turns out that choices lead to habits. Habits become talents. Talents are labeled gifts. You're not born this way, you get this way. ~ Seth Godin
*** Lesson Details ***
Music should be fun. Period.
My only real job is to make sure you have fun and want to learn more. Then you will do the rest. you will astonish yourself and everyone around you!
In a traditional music education, reading the works of others is the focus, with no encouragement to improvise or to play by ear.
In our community, there is a prestigious, private college prep school that charges just under $80 per hour for traditional private music lessons. If you take away the music, most cannot play a note.
My method is every bit the equal of that school for those who are drawn to express themselves playing by ear. You will still learn all the core skills needed to be a well-rounded musician.
Music study helps people young and old to overcome shyness and build confidence. It empowers them as they refine their special talents.
We will always have a lot of fun, but there is a lot to do, so we need to be efficient. My teaching method is a combination of the best methods I have found. It is backed up with the same solid principles that I received when I was a student myself. If you choose to continue and pursue a classical education at a high level, you will be well-prepared.
Please note: You are most welcome to start with 30 minute sessions to see if we are a good fit. 30 min lessons are offered for this purpose and also for very young children with short attention spans. For any student, wishing to make progress, lessons will eventually need to be an hour or 45 minutes at minimum in order to reach your goals.
Attendance While fun is our main goal, we need results and I am an old-school stickler for results.
Weekly sessions are the only way to get measurable results, and the only way I teach. Two absences a month is noted by colleges as a clear path to dropping out. That is what bi-weekly sessions will do.
Though you'll receive serious critiques from me, I always uplift and encourage. Positive energy is the ticket.
My Method: Listen, Sing, Clap, Play, Read and Write. With these tools you can look deeper into the elements that make up music. Folk, jazz, pop, rock or classical; all Western music is derived from the same principles. We will study ear training from a wonderful ear training book by a famous guitarist. It'Âs simple: you learn all the theory so you will be at the top of your game, but always have fun doing it. For notation, we will use The Semper Note Speller. For scales, we have the famous Brown Scale Book.
Technology We use recording as a tool to help you hear how you sound and we always encourage you to express yourself with improvisation. In many cases, you will have tracks to practice with. We also use apps for your phone that really help. A guitar tuner to nail down vocal pitch, as well as a metronome app that is with you wherever you go. If you have a minute anywhere you can get in some good practice time. So we truly have the best of all worlds: playing from music and learning to play by ear! If you stick with it and do the work, the end result will be that you can always just sit down and play, whether or not you have any music in front of you!
On our first lesson we will do a duet jam session together and you will not believe how great you sound!
The Big Picture In the old days, a tiny percentage of students would become a concert pianist.
Today, there are a multitude of other ways to become involved with music. Whether you are looking at music as a profession or as a hobby, we let parents know of the many choices available so that they can make good decisions, for themselves and for their children.
Having fun as you improve is a big priority. I also teach songwriting, singing, music recording and performance, as well as piano.
Remember: A piano should be an irresistible invitation, not an obstacle.
*** Studio Equipment *** Troy studio: A digital keyboard in a professional recording control-room environment at our media production studio. The studio is near Big Beaver and Stephenson Hwy.
Home studio: An acoustic piano and recording studio environment at my home in Franklin/Beverly Hills.
Your Instrument If you are taking any kind of music lesson, we recommend a tuned piano or digital keyboard, preferably with at least 76 full-sized keys.
We have helped many people to find the right piano. If you like, I can suggest several different models of keyboard that I have researched and of which I approve. They range from an inexpensive but effective starter keyboard for ear training and just plain fun to an 88 note weighted keyboard for more expressive practice.
*** Specialties *** Adults who always wanted to. Homeschoolers who are frustrated. Kids who just love music.
My youngest student is 4 and my oldest student is 102 now. )At 100 he recorded an album of songs from the 1920s!)
I teach people of all ages first to play by ear and to have fun while they study. Then I back up ear training with solid theory so they can read and write music. In school I studied many traditional methods and I have distilled my own distinct method from them. Though I am classically trained, I specialize in improvisation. Here's to a most satisfying musical experience! Best regards, Randy
Very comfortable and helpful. Looking forward to the next one.

Randy has been incredibly helpful with teaching me to have a better on camera experience. I read scripts while he records them, then we work on improving them. I would recommend Randy to anyone looking to improve their speaking voice
About Improv: Improv is a form of theater where everything is made up on the spot. Nothing is scripted, everything is made up in the moment using random suggestions. Improv allows every person & idea to have value. I use the principles of improvisational theater to create better humans! I'm committed to creating an environment safe to make mistakes and providing a very safe and courageous place for people to have fun, learn and play in. You’ll be happily surprised with the outcome.
About Christine: I have been improvising since 2001 and in 2003 began directing students from ages 5 to 84. My passion is to share the incredible art form of improv with excitement and humor.
Improv is a great learning tool for team building, spontaneity, listening, being present, speaking to groups, communicating one on one, saying yes, respecting one
another and so much more. It helps that each game played builds upon the next to reinforce the learning.
What you get: One-on-One - 45 min - 1 hour of discussion / rehearsal with Christine - working on improv performance skills or personal communication skills. At the end of the session, you will be armed with new tools.
Improv Troupe Notes - 1 hour - for improv troupes needing an outside eye for notes, direction and ideas for marketing your troupe. At the end of the session, you will have new games and ideas to move your troupe forward.
Custom Course - 45min - 1 hour or weekly - Tell me what you would like to improve. Character choices? Initiations? Storyline? You tell me.
Working with Christine has been nothing short of an amazing experience. I have learned so much about the industry and have received so much insight on what it takes to be a great actress/comedian/etc. When I first started out, I had no idea what direction I wanted to take or where to start. Christine was extremely patient and came equipped with a roadmap to getting started. She takes every lesson at the pace that works best for me. She has helped me to set and define clear goals of what I want to accomplish and has made excellent use of our time together. I chose Christine because of previous reviews and she has lived up to every word of what others have said. It's been a blast and I plan to continue developing my skill set with her help!

Christine is the BEST!
As a beginner improver, I am so lucky I found Christine! She has taught me so many valuable tools that have improved my scene work and my decision making. In addition, she always addresses my specific issues during each lesson and even emails me with advice and fun GIFS! (no, not "gifts", but graphic interchange formats! :D Every class is fun and lighthearted and I look forward to it each week.
My lessons are virtual, but she is still very effective at participating in scenes and even encouraged my fellow classmate to join me during our lessons. We can't say enough great things about each class!!

I enjoyed my session with Christian. He is fair and knowledgeable

Very knowledgable teacher! Christian is patient with me as a beginner and has a great teaching method whereby he never tells you exactly how to perform a piece, as that is not what acting is about.

I don't know about you (yes you, the one reading this), but I've been secretly wanting to act my whole life and am a full of life personality with hidden insecurities. Even though I have never really acted professionally, I have been theatrical and playing all sorts of characters, speaking in accents and dancing to everything in front of the mirror, in comfortable social gatherings and have even put on shows for my pets and husband! Last time I acted "professionally" was in a high school play. And even then, I mostly helped make the props!
I tell you this, because, with that kind of a background, nervous and yet SO excited to JUST TRY, I chose Christian as my teacher- my professor of Acting!
I am 3 classes in and Christian is very supportive, non-judgemental and extremely easy to learn with. I am impressed with his skills, his ability to immediately decipher something I'm trying to explain, and then how easy he makes it for me to put his constructive feedback into practice. The practice is not easy... because that stuff always takes hard work, but he explains it all so easily so I can start practicing and exploring the acting world. He is honest about the acting world, the people in it and the various steps it takes to get to wherever you are trying to get! So be honest with yourself and let this be an authentic and fun experience! Plus, it's so nice to talk to someone that actually gets what it's like to be dreaming!
Lehman College, Bachelors of Fine Arts, Graduate! I am a Musical Theatre Performer. I perform all the time and believe that warm-ups are a big importance when it comes to performing. Technique is something I have been studying for a while, and I am consistently learning what new techniques work for myself too. I teach singing, acting and other subjects too, check them out!
Hey! Nice to meet you! First off, I would love to thank you for your interest in my professional acting training. I am a fun, vibrant and grounded professional actor desired to help you reach your goals in the performing arts industry. I am a graduate of the well-known American Academy of Dramatic Arts, as well as a writer, songwriter, and overall just an encouraging individual willing to push you beyond your fears and help you dive in pool of creation. I specialize in warm-ups, physical acting, improv, auditions, monologue practice, Meisner Technique, Lee Strasberg's Method, and Stanislavski’s System.
I follow five simple but important steps to my method of engagement in performing. 1. Explore Explore your space. Rather it be on stage, in front of the camera, or just in your head; you must explore your space to find your comfo
rtable and tight places, as well as your obstacles and free spaces. The advantages of exploring first, is that you get a chance as the actor, to feel the area and build that fourth wall. 2. Ground Plant your feet and your voice down and get grounded. Your being is an electrical source. Just like in a home, in order to use electricity safely, it must first be grounded. You must ground yourself in order to release the full potential of your power. 3. Listen Listening is a key element in not just acting, but also in life. Listening doesn't seclude itself to just words. Listening involves, listening to your body, listening for queues, beats, moments and even silence! If you choose not to listen, your response will never be valid. 4. Act and React Every action has a reaction. Your job as an actor, is to fulfill the role by acting and then reacting. You must learn specific techniques to appropriately apply to your acting and if you are following rule number three, reacting should be a breeze. 5. Trust your muscles Trust that through repetitive motion and practice, that your muscles will do it's job and place your mind, words, and body exactly where it needs to be.
With these steps, the only thing left to add is discipline and creativity. I encourage my students to be themselves and be fearless in that. Without your difference in the world, there would be no change, there would be no story to be told, there would be no excitement. I challenge you to excite me and allow me into your space. Let's explore and create together!
I graduated with B.A. and M.A. degrees in Philosophy and Literature from University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. After moving to U.S. over 20 years ago, I completed my M.B.A. with emphasis in Finance from Loyola University New Orleans College of Business. I love teaching kids and have been tutoring Spanish, ESL, Homework Help and Study Skills for the last 10 years. I have also home schooled students in Elementary and Middle School. I was an elementary and middle school Spanish teacher for the Louisiana public school systems and I currently teach several subjects at Halstrom Academy. I have taught Spanish to English speakers and English to Spanish speakers, which gives me a thorough understanding of both languages. My approach consists of adapting my tutoring technique to the child’s learning styles
and needs. I have a “you CAN do it!” attitude and effectively communicate this to my students.
Preparing for a dance competition? Auditioning for your schools dance line or local dance team? Want to learn how to get in touch with your “inner sexy”? Or just simply need some dance therapy? No experience, NO PROBLEM! You’ve come to the right person!! I have been choreographing dances since the age of 10. From putting on shows for my family at family events to working hands on with groups and individuals in preparation for auditions or shows. Through my wide variety of dance styles ( contemporary, modern, jazz, ballet, Majorette-Style, Hip-Hop, lyrical, and liturgical) as well as my creative innovation, I offer each dancer an eccentric way to express themselves through dance. “ if you can’t say it, DANCE IT!” Between reasoned connection (specific to the occasion), improvisational movement, and structural molding, dancing to express w
ill have you looking YOUR BEST! So whether it’s that solo audition you need help creating, or a piece for a show, maybe you need to relieve stress & tension, or just want to show out for your loved one with a private dance. WHATEVER IT IS! Grab your shoes and ExpressTODAY with Miss Luckie’J!
Most of my earlier dance upbringing stems from liturgical dance and cheerleading. No later than one year of jumpstarting my dance career, I began teaching routines for dancers and cheerleaders in my community due to my ability to think creatively and as well as my modification skill technique to make any move fit any dancer. I have served as dance captain and cheerleading captain for both recreational and competitive squads for over 5 years. My dance styles are stretched widely across the board. From being a former dancer of Purpose Liturgical Dance Company to being a former dancer of The 14 Karat Gold Dancers of the Bethune-Cookman University.
Being trained by Miss Luckie definitely pushed me to a lot of limits that I hadn’t previously been pushed to. I was instructed very well; there was patience, positive feedback, and discipline involved. When preparing for auditions, I was extremely nervous, however, with the help of Miss Luckie, I learned to be confident and dance with much enthusiasm. She was there through every step of the way. I’m forever grateful for her because not only was she a coach, she was a mentor. It’s definitely an experience, being under her leadership and mentorship, worth having.

For my husbands birthday I wanted to surprise him at home with a romantic dinner and sexy “show”. I am not that experienced in dance but I wanted to show him a new sexy side. When I reached out to Jessica I expressed to her exactly what I was hoping to pull off and she EXCEEDED my expectations. As I stated I have little dance experience and she convinced me to learn the choreography in HEELS! All in all, she made me feel extremely comfortable and made it super easy and fun!! I will be taking more lessons with Jessica! Highly recommended!!

Jessica was a wonderful teacher and helped me really grow as a dancer without her bring there and really pushing me I wouldn’t be where I’m at today !
"I enjoyed every minute of our 3 classes together. Roman helped me become more comfortable with basic dance movements, which was my goal. He is personabl
e, thoughtful and a great dancer."
"I’ve been taking classes with Carlton in my 2 year Conservatory at the at the Lee Strasberg Institute as well as at New Collective in Hollywood and he's h
ands down one of the best acting teachers I’ve had so far. Carlton taught me to work harder, think further and make stronger bolder choices and commit to the choices I’ve made in my acting. He taught me how to dissect a script to have a further deeper understanding of the story, the subtext, the character and their relationships. He taught me how to build a character and the exercises that will help me in the process such as movement work, animal exercise, writing a character bio and so on. He has a deep understanding of vivid behavior and details that will make a scene or a character come to life. He is a well all-around trained acting teacher and a super hardworking person in general which has a positive influence on your own work ethics and your personal goals. What makes him unique as an acting teacher is that he is still active in the business himself. So not only is he a good acting teacher but he is also up to date with the industry."
"David Tom is the best acting teacher ever! I am so lucky finding him! 5 stars is not enough to rate his teaching! Mira"
"Sasha is a trained teacher. You can tell she knows how to TEACH dance not just dance well. She is flexible with your learning style but will present 3 met
hods of learning simultaneously - visually performing your moves with you, auditorally counting out loud to you, and making you repetitively perform the moves while she monitors your technic. Or, she'll let you do what you feel most comfortable with so you have the most fun. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn Dance at any level."
"I used to be terrified of crowds and speaking on front of large groups. I now have more self-confidence and poise when I give presentations after working
with Margo. I am grateful to have finally overcome this fear."
"Jennifer is amazing! I went into my first lesson really nervous, but she assured me everything would be fine, and helped me push through the nerves. She t

"Great teacher who instantly connects with children. My children enjoyed it. They are looking forward to the rest of the lessons and improve."
"My Granddaughter, Nya, LOVED Ali from the time she met her. Ali is a Great Teacher, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER! My Granddaughter wants to continue with Ali
