Tom received his training at Boston University in 1998 where he received a degree in Finance and International Relations. Then going on to receive a degree in English Literature. As an native in the English language Tom looks forward to helping new students achieve their goals. Tom's teaching style is relaxed and filled with humor that continues to motivate his students.

As an ESL teacher, developing a curriculum he takes an overall approach to English study that focuses on a specific aspect of language use, such as life skills, literacy, or vocational and workplace English competencies. Both approaches involve teaching his students basic English skills, such as listening, reading, writing and speaking.

The Pedagogical Foundations Of EnglishCentral

Hello, my name is Lauren and I have two master's degrees in both clinical psychology and nursing and have written two dissertations. I will teach English as an L2 tool by sharing my life experiences, thereby making your life that much richer in language. In this day and age with texting and digital communication, the "Art of Communication" has been lost. My desire is to enthusiastically share my experiences in this lost art. I have experience coaching friends with little or no knowledge of English. I especially enjoy coaching students whose language I do not speak, as this approximates best their everyday conversations with people they encounter in the US.
I enjoy talking about practical everyday life situations in an unstructured format, always considering the student's most pressing needs. Part of our work together may be accompanying the student on shopping trips, obtaining a driver's license, enrolling in a course, looking for an item in the library, etc.
I have a multicultural background, and can carry conversations in several languages. I have traveled to 77 countries and have visited Asia and Latin America countries on 200 occasions. I have lectured at the university level (graduate and undergraduate) and to managers worldwide.
Often, recent immigrants are puzzled even by simple questions. They become afraid to engage with Americans, and may retreat to the safety of their ethnic group and never learn English. I will teach you to listen better and understand more. You will learn simple words and sentences to make yourself understood.
We will test how you are doing by doling some everyday things you need to do: shopping, asking for help, getting directions. I may not speak more than a few words of your language. That is an advantage because it simulates what you encounter everyday. You will gain confidence in just a few days. I have seen it happen with several friends I have coached.
