***My Promise to You***
I will treat you like an individual - that means that we'll find out how YOU learn best, and we'll work that way. I don't teach memorization. I teach by asking and answering questions, as well as providing information.
***My Expectation of You***
That you will come with an open mind, come with questions, and a willingness to learn and have fun.
*The Humanities* The reason so many people go screaming into the night when confronted with lessons in things like history, or government, or English for that matter, are all the names and dates to memorize. I don't teach that way. We begin with things you want (or need) to know. From there, we cover how those things affected other things, It's a huge world out there, and how we got here from where we started is a wonderful and complicated trip. History doesn't happen in a vacuum, and we learn who we are by knowing where we come from.
*Papers* Obviously I won't write your paper for you, but I will show you how and where to start your research (and how to sort it as well). I will also proof-read for grammar and/or organizational errors and show you how to structure it in general terms.
*Drama* I have acted, I have directed. From the community to professional levels. We will talk about character creation, about staging, about working with your director as well as your fellow actors. We will mostly brainstorm, and you will be able to experiment in vision as well as technique.
There are many aspects and areas of writing. What is Yours? Whether it be essay writing, speech writing or technical writing, I am here to help.
Greetings and welcome!

Quick note on my passion for learning as a way of life ~
As a passionate lifelong learner, researcher, educator, tutor and coach, I embrace an unbounded curiosity of wonder and never ending exploration of an interdisciplinary approach to the scientific methods of learning, and acquiring knowledge that extend far beyond my university studies, into living my life highly engaged in as much experiential (first person) learning as possible. I love asking fresh, invigorating, boldly curious, audaciously barrier-busting, status-qua daring questions, as I feel passionately that, as Dr. Albert Einstein shared, "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity." Albert Einstein US (German-born) physicist (1879 - 1955)

I am a full time ESL teacher during the school year. I love to read, travel and learn about different cultures. I enjoy bringing back souvenirs to use as teaching tools in my classroom! My favorite genre is historical fiction and right now I'm reading a mystery set in Victorian England.
I offer straight forward coaching to writers and aspiring authors and bloggers who may feel stuck or unsure about how to move forward in their writing endeavors.
Whether at the brainstorming level, lost somewhere in the plot, or uncertain if the story is actually complete, I meet writers where they are on their journey and help them carry on.
Other services include editing, writing critiques, content creation for social media, and reviews.
I have 15 years of professional language arts and writing experience, most of which was spent as an English educator. Several years were dedicated to a successful blog, and most recently I self-published my first book.
I am passionate about the art of language and how it moves us. I'm also passionate about helping others say exactly what it is they're thinking and feeling. Words are interesting. There is an art to how they are weaved together to create a masterpiece.
HOW I CAN ...
Investing in a writing coach is like paying to be held accountable to do what you set out to do, which is a great sign that you're serious about completing your project.
A writing coach acts as any coach would. We provide a winning game plan and encourage you along the way. I offer tools for organization, collaborate with you on goals and deadlines, help you find a flow that works for you, and offer you sound advice from my experience as a self-published author who also had a career, children, and relationship to balance as I pressed toward my dream.
I cannot wait to get started on helping your vision come to life.
In 2004 I graduated from Princeton University magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa (top 10% by GPA) with a BA in English Literature, receiving the Comprehensive Prize in English, an award essentially recognizing the top writer of what has often been ranked the #1 university in the nation. While at Princeton I also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Princeton Spectator newspaper for two years.
I then moved to Hollywood, where for 2 years I served as James Cameron's assistant during the writing and pre-production of Avatar, and also wrote my own screenplay, entitled Wild Child (currently in development).
I then changed course and spent 2 years taking all of the pre-med requirements to be able to apply to and then enroll in a dual MD/MBA degree (Medicine/Business) at UCLA. Now that I have completed the dual degree, I am currently writing a book to be published next year.

Since discovering it in my high school English class, Strunk & White's classic writing style manual The Elements of Style has truly been my secret weapon, its 11 "Elementary Principles of Composition" ensuring that I never received below an A- on any
written assignment during high school or college, allowing me to graduate from Princeton with a 3.90 overall GPA and a 3.97 in the English Department.
Strunk & White's 11 simple but essential writing rules will serve as the basis of our lessons, in which we will apply them to students' work in order to cement these habits through active application.
I have been teaching and tutoring writing for over 10 years. I bring a unique, interdisciplinary perspective to the table because I have taught academic writing across the disciplines in the social sciences and humanities. I have also collaboratively taught writing intensive seminars with engineering faculty. In addition, my current writing project is a historical fiction manuscript based on my dissertation research on the Reformation era.
I enjoy working with students from middle school age through adults of all ages. My previous students have ranged from adults returning to school after many years in the workforce, to high school and middle school students who were seeking mentorship in academic and creative writing, to adults working on writing their dissertations. In my lessons, I work with you to help create a learning environment that is suited to your unique needs.
In addition to my writing background, I also have professional theatre experience, which I build on when I ...
I have been a professional Writing Consultant, Editor, and professor for over ten years. My training in writing consulting began at Oberlin College, where I worked in my first university writing center and studied teaching and tutoring across the disciplines. I then went on to apply my training in teaching writing across the disciplines through my teaching in the disciplines of history, religious studies, political science, and university writing programs. I have a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Denver. I am also a writer of historical fiction (my blog is available at historicalfictionfornow.wordpress.com). Finally, I also bring professional theatre experience to the table, with a focus on Shakespeare.
Writing students can expect to learn practical strategies and tools to help them become stronger writers. Throug
h lessons, students will learn not only the tools that will help them develop strong language, reasoning, and organization skills, but they will also learn to trust their own writer's voice. Good writing is about craft, persistence, attention to each stage of the process, and being authentic to one's own ideas.
Shakeaspearean theatre/acting students can expect to work on deep analysis of Shakespeare's texts. By starting with the language itself-- both the words, as well as their rhythm and structure--students will learn techniques that will help them delve deeply into character work and the historical context, while also finding ways to deliver their lines naturally.
I enjoy working with students of all ages, starting with high school students and moving through adults of all ages. Here are some examples of the types of writing and students I have worked with previously:
-High school students planning their college essays or preparing for the SAT or ACT (I was previously an SAT exam rater); -High school and college students seeking support to become stronger writers in their academic classes; -Adults in career transitions: I've helped with job searches, focusing on cover letters and resumes, graduate school applications, and writing assignments in graduate classes as students who have been in the workforce for a long time get re-acquainted with academic work; -Graduate students working on their dissertations, from the earlier phases of their literature reviews to the final revisions before they finish their degrees; -Creative writing coaching and mentoring for high school students seeking individual support
Of the different instructors I have collaborated with, Sarah is by far one of the instructors who has most consciously worked to make sure that her course design met the goals and learning outcomes of the curricula. From the first day I met her, she already had a syllabus design that met any suggestions I might make from my previous years' experience teaching courses in our program. I know she worked actively with others in the program in designing her materials, and she took all their comments to heart, building her syllabus around their recommendations for achieving learning outcomes.
In addition to creating assignments that clearly and usefully supported the goals of the program, Sarah incorporated the community contributions elements of the program, as well. She invited speakers from the campus community and the broader community. The students responded positively to all of these speakers, and they actively incorporated the ideas they learned from them in their work for the course.
The students' final presentations are the best indication of how successful Sarah's course was. The students were asked to use their academic research paper to create a policy paper or deliverable to a stakeholder of the students' choosing. The students created such fantastic presentations, that some of them could perhaps have been sent to the intended stakeholder--if we had the right contacts--with only minor revisions. The final presentations indicated that they achieved the learning outcomes of the course.

Sarah was very patient and gave constructive advice during our lessons. She also does her research regarding the topic or subject you are writing on before the lesson.

Thanks to Sarah's help with my high school daughter's writing, my daughter achieved major milestones in her work as a creative writer. Sarah helped my daughter learn how to write in genres she never had before (poetry, short stories, and drama) and to have more confidence in her ability as a writer and a person. Also, whenever I wrote Sarah with questions about her sessions with my daughter, she always took time to write thoughtful responses that showed how much she cared about my daughter's growth.
My lessons provide a safe environment for you as the learner to become all you wish to be as a writer. I strongly believe that no one is a bad writer. Lessons with me will teach you to tap into your creative potential and push you beyond all of your limitations and insecurities -- writing is about what is coming out of that bright mind of yours! In high school, I was a writing center tutor and received firsthand experience helping individuals take their writing to the next level and become critical thinkers while doing so. Tracking your goals and progress as a writer will aid me in the process of getting you where you want to be. What are you waiting for?
My senior year of high school, I was the editor-in-chief of my newspaper called The Rangeview Raider Review. The same year under the direction of myself and advisor Zeb Carabello, our staff was awarded All Colorado (1st place) for Colorado Student Media Association (CSMA).
I've also received several 1st place awards for my news and opinion writing, and in 2019 I was awarded 3rd place in the state for Columnist of the Year.
I've put myself out there to vast audiences and have had my writing read and praised by those of high authority, including Justice Melissa Hart of the Colorado Judicial Branch and Mary Beth Tinker (Supreme Court Case Tinker v. Des Moines) to name a few.
Additionally, I've been teaching others how to improve their writing for the past two years, and I often receive compliments on how I am an easy and understanding

At some point in your academic career, you'll need to know how to analyze an argument properly. Here, tutor Andrew P. shares his guide to success...
As a college student, you'll be expected at some point to understand, restate, comment on, or discuss someone’s assertion (strongly stated position).
An argument is a reason(s) for a conclusion.
He is dense (reason); therefore, I won’t talk with him (conclusion).
