I currently tutor and provide homework help to students in grades K-8.
I enjoy writing, and have an excellent understanding of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, vocabulary, and writing style.
I also understand and am sympathetic to the various difficulties that students may experience with writing. I am patient, always willing to listen and answer questions, and always eager to help each student express him/herself well in writing.
I do not typically provide any equipment - but I am willing to select and purchase books for the students to learn from (cost of books to be reimbursed by the student/parent) when requested to do so.
I am also willing to provide stick-on note-names for the keyboard, for young children.
The students must have their own instruments, and provide a folder for sheet music and notes/instructions.

Unlike most of the teachers, Mr. Paul put a lot of effort and creativity into planning his classes, which made them both stimulating and fun for us.
I also loved the fact that Mr. Paul always respected our opinions, and never made us feel stupid when we didn’t understand something. He was always very encouraging and willing to keep explaining until we got it.
I highly recommend him to anyone interested in extra lessons. He is definitely worth it!

I took TOEFL perpetration classes with Henry. He is very knowledgeable and a great teacher. Because of his experience in journalism he has amazing knowledge in writing, reading, speaking, He worked on my general English skills first because I thought I had enough proficiency in English while I didn't, and after some classes he started TOEFL, he definitely knows what area of English I was weak in so, step by step, he lead me in the right direction. He's very responsible and carrying. I got a higher score than I was expecting.

Quick note on my passion for learning as a way of life ~
As a passionate lifelong learner, researcher, educator, tutor and coach, I embrace an unbounded curiosity of wonder and never ending exploration of an interdisciplinary approach to the scientific methods of learning, and acquiring knowledge that extend far beyond my university studies, into living my life highly engaged in as much experiential (first person) learning as possible. I love asking fresh, invigorating, boldly curious, audaciously barrier-busting, status-qua daring questions, as I feel passionately that, as Dr. Albert Einstein shared, "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity."

I received my masters in social work from walla walla university in 2012. My thesis was on stress levels of police officers. In addition I have received my bachelors in history, where my paper on Air Cavalry in the Vietnam war won many accolades of my history professors.
My students can expect me to be fair and honest. Just as my professors were with me. A well written papers speaks volumes and I am passionate about mentoring young writers. Hard work and diligence are some of the words that my professors and friends would use to describe me. I will give all my resources to help students reach their potential. In return I expect that students work their best to grow academically.
I currently play with four symphonies, chamber groups and substitute for other symphonies throughout Washington state. Because I have been through so many audition processes I feel as though I have excellent insight into the process. I would be able to assist my students in a process that can possibly be one of the most stressful events of their professional lives.
My string studies began at the age of age of eight with Jim O'Brian (served in Army orchestra). Following graduation from Kamiakin High School in 1998, I was accepted into the University of Iowa's school of music. However, I decided to stay close to home and study at Columbia Basin College. It was there that I met my next professor Robert Burroughs. My other university string professors included Maria Zlateva (graduated from University of Texas at Austin), Dr. Philip Baldwin, and Dr. John Marshall who is currently principal cellist of the Spokane Symphony.
My style of teaching is the Suzuki method or string basics. I was raised on the Suzuki method and have found that it provides an excellent foundation for string players. Many of my students have found this helpful with their technique and music theory. My youngest student participated in a talent show with their orchestra last year. Through her hard work and determination she was able to gain a substantial amount of information prior to entering junior high.
What sets me apart from other teachers is that I am strictly a viola instructor. Many viola teachers list themselves as violinists as well. I believe this has helped me because I understand the physical and mental challenges that "we" violists face on a daily basis. I feel privileged knowing that very few people can read alto clef and play such a beautiful instrument. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, don't hesitate to ask me a question.
To all my violists out there inspire yourselves from the greats; William Primrose, Yuri Bashmet, David Carpenter, and Nigel Kennedy.
Thanks for looking at my bio.
Happy playing :)

My goal as a teacher is to unlock the creative potential within people. I believe that music education should empower the student to bring the contents of their imagination into full expression. Discipline and practice is only half the battle. You will learn all of the fundamentals of music theory, but the fun really begins when we start looking at your favorite songs and learning how to incorporate those ideas into your own creative process.
As a performing musician, I have fifteen years experience writing music for bands, studio recording, pressing cds and vinyl through record labels, touring nationally, writing and publishing two books on music theory, giving public talks for large audiences, and have been featured as interview guest on
