I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. I've been teaching private vocal instruction since 2003: I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, a unique and supportive venue for singer's to become more comfortable performing before an audience. I also instruct workshops for vocal technique and performance. For 10 years I was the lead singer for The Red Apples, an acoustic/electric roots band that performed an eclectic mix of rock, swing, blues, country and jazz. Within the past year I have re-energized my theater and cabaret career, appearing at Davenport's Cabaret, in a new solo show, as well as productions at Big Noise Theater and Stage 773. I've also completed tw
o short films and started working on my own web series, about my life as a singer/voice teacher. I also have an art song project consisting of original material with composer Jaroslaw Golembiowski. As a singer and actress I have performed with many major theaters in the Chicago area, including Court Theater, Victory Gardens, National Jewish Theater, Bailiwick Theater, and Prop Theater.
*** Lesson Details *** As a classically trained singer I will instruct you in all aspects of singing technique, from breath control and support to improving your tone, range, flexibility and resonance. I have recently completed training in Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri Method, which has enriched my understanding of the mechanics and health of the voice, as well as applications of technique to CCM or contemporary musical styles of singing. My familiarity with a variety of musical styles from pop/rock, R&B, and country, to musical theater, lounge and jazz makes me an ideal teacher for those interested in contemporary styles.
I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, (Linklater, Alexander Technique, Grotowski) to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good-natured humor."
*** Studio Equipment *** My studio space is fully equipped with a piano, P.A. system with microphones, CD, MP3 player for tracks, and ability to record lessons if the student desires.

*** Specialties *** I am classically trained, but I am very adept at teaching music in a wide variety of styles, including most contemporary styles of music including pop/rock, roots, swing, jazz and blues, country, r&b, and of course musical theater and cabaret. My band performs an eclectic mix of originals and covers in the roots rock genre, and I write music as well. I have many years of experience in the theater as an actress, and I coach acting technique and performance. I coach singer/songwriters, and all types of singers, of all ages. I have a workshop that specializes in helping people learn to perform better in front of an audience, and I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, which is a supportive opportunity to perform regularly! I also coach bands, to improve their vocals, harmonies, etc.
*** Travel Equipment *** Books. Students must have their own instrument (keyboards are acceptable for taking piano lessons). I always council students on brand, quality of instrument they are purchasing before they buy it.
*** Specialties *** I have been a public school music educator for over 28 years, have taught private music lessons for over 30 years. I have taught band, orchestra, and choir which enables me to teach many instruments and voice. I also have been a language and reading tutor for over 6 years and have worked with students with special needs for over 10 years. I studied classical guitar with master guitarist, Christopher Parkening, at Montana State University where I graduated with a B.M.E. I also did graduate work at MSU in composition. I am completing a Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership currently at Gran
d Canyon University. I teach Suzuki piano and violin. I am an accomplished composer/songwriter with many published and recorded songs and instrumental works through ASCAP. I endeavor to make learning fun, and enjoy teaching students of all ages!
Online student requirements: A fast, reliable COMPUTER; HIGH SPEED INTERNET (at least 400 kbps); SKYPE software; WEBCAM (preferably HD); MICROPHONE (most laptops or tablets have mikes built in). Be sure your camera is focused on you and your instrument, if applicable.
I just recently started with Dee. She is doing a great job of helping me realistically assess my performance, and constructively set goals to improve the aspects that need work. It's been fun and very helpful.

Our 8 year old son had his first Guitar lesson with Dee this past weekend, and she was amazing. She wasted no time getting down to brass tacks with our son, showing him the various parts of the guitar, how to hold it and within minutes he knew two chords. She was able to keep our kiddo engaged, offered great praise and positive feedback/reinforcement and kept him on task for the entire 45 minute lesson. We could not be happier and cannot wait to see what he learns during his next lessons with her!

"Nicholas is patient, insightful, friendly, and gets results. After working with Nicholas, I felt great about my auditions, got two callbacks, and landed a touring job. I would recommend him to any actor."

I am the Producing Artistic Director of the Hudson Warehouse and have been since its inception in 2004. Known as "The Other Shakespeare in the Park," we produce free classical theater in Riverside Park during the summer months and we have an
indoor season during the winter months as well.
"Mr. M has been my director, coach and mentor in productions and the classroom. His patience, insight and his passion excites students, and makes them feel safe and supported enough to take risks."

I also work with Doctors, CEOs, Post-Doctorates, and Engineers to help improve their diction, communication skills, and help organize their presentations, to have the greatest impact in the corporate world.
"I met with the communications person yesterday and she told me that my delivery was incredible … and that’s a tribute to you. Your insights and tips on public speaking will remain with me long after Columbia."
*** Teaching Methods *** I foster a safe, relaxed and engaging environment to explore truthful human behavior on stage.
The objective is 'the truth' to which end there is no one technique. Actors are encouraged to find their own tools and to draw from elements of different practices to discover a technique that works best for them as individuals.
I studied the methods of Constantin Stanislavski for acting with Sergei Pomerov of the Moscow Circus Theater. I am classically trained as well.
I work primarily as a guide to help navigate the way and to interpret ‘the signs.' I teach the lesson in the moment and address the challenges of both the beginner and the experienced actor.
***Classical Work*** My basic approach to classical work focuses primarily on the connection of the breath with the feeling on the word.
This is the foundation on which you can then build. From the ‘words’ to the ‘thoughts’ to entire ‘passages’ of text, as you work and explore, the richness of the playwright’s words comes to life. Your own unique emotional life is allowed to come through the text and you are able to fully embody the role.
*** Teaching Levels and Focuses *** *Beginning Actors -Work With Classical Text. -Vocal Work. -"Moment to Moment" Work. -"Sense Memory" Work.
*Experienced Actors -In depth Classical Text Analysis. -Connecting to the Text. -Audition Technique -Monologue Coaching
***Professionals in the Corporate World*** -A basic understanding of how to present yourself as a speaker. -Address the root cause of your concerns in communicating. -Build a technique to craft a presentation to get the best response from a client or colleague.
I met with Nicholas before an audition. He is a wonderful teacher. He helped me already a great deal during that short hour, on how to approach the material, break it down in a way that will help my performance reach its full potential. I was able to deliver a truthful performance. I am looking forward to more sessions. Many thanks.

Nicholas has been FABULOUS! In a very short time, he's worked on my voice inflection and tones and presentation style. Most importantly, he's given me a framework to think about WHY I'm speaking and has encouraged me every step of the way!

I also attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas where I majored in the concentrations of Vocal and Stage Performance, as well as, Technical Production; here, I received my Bachelors of Arts degree. I am an active Performing Artist. I have developed many relationships within the industry, and acquired much knowledge on how to become a working artist. I love what I do so much that it has afforded me to teach my expertise in the areas of voice, stage performance and audition preparation. As an educator, I believe that there is no limit to what you can do, my education, passion and goal is to help you become a confident reader at any stage of your life. I look forward to meeting you.
My child was not at 8th grade reading level, he has been taking lessons for about two weeks now. No one could tell me his reading level, Kaira did a computer test, created a plan and it's working great. For the first time my son is excited to learn. He's doing better in school in short matter of time.

It was such a pleasure meeting Kaira! She was so warm and welcoming. My daughter loved her singing lesson. She has grown so much as a singer and is more confident than ever. You will not regret hiring Kaira, she is absolutely the best vocal coach I could have ever found for my child. Very professional and knowledgeable!
I have played piano since I was twelve years old and have not stopped since! I enjoy all types of music from jazz to showtunes, classical to honky tonk. I always try and make the learning process fun, and always get results!
Noah was very patient and made both of my granddaughters feel comfortable. They really liked Noah and expressed their enjoyment of the sessions. I stayed out of sight in order not to distract but close enough to hear interaction with lessons. He works really well with children and is very encouraging throughout the session.
Hey everyone. My name is Staci and I love meeting different students of different backgrounds and personalities. I have an Associates in Information Technology and am now pursing my bachelor's in the field, with a focus on programming. I am from Chicago so have almost seen it all. I excel in the field of communications and writing, and am also a freelance writer with several blogs of my own, and write for other blogs. I love writing research papers on various topics, especially on topics I am passionate about. I do creative writing and really have a good eye for art and film. In my spare time, I like to go to the gym, spend time with my fiance, canvas paint, and yes I even like to knit. Don't laugh at me. Music plays a major role in my life and know just about every R&B, soul, or hip-hop song that was released between the 80s-2000s.
m the eldest of my siblings, and have a passion for teaching as much as I have a passion for learning. I have been tutoring since I was 8 years old, but did not monetize my tutoring skills until I was about 16 years old. Today, I am 25 and never get bored of finding different methods of teaching for individual students to help them achieve their academic or personal goals. I have tutored roughly 50 students in my tutoring career, more or less. I specialize in language, writing, Spanish for beginners, reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing research papers, science, mathematics from grades k-12, as well as college geometry and algebra, and many more subjects.
I cannot put enough emphasis on being patient with yourself when understanding a new concept. It's okay to not get everything the first or second time around. Take your time and enjoy the process of learning. You are actually exercising your brain when you are challenged, which is wonderful! I also want the people I work with to know that I am VERY LGBTQ friendly, and support minorities as well as understand some of the challenges they may face. Anytime you are in my presence, you are in a safe place, and you will always be treated with dignity.
Aside from being passionate about science for a few personal reasons, I actually aim to pursue medical school because of my passion for health and medicine. In case, for some reason I won't be able to do so, I have my bachelor's in an applied science to fall back on. Ultimately I would like to become an M.D working in the field of Preventative Medicine or become a surgeon I have written extensive research

Mrs. Montgomery is my favorite teacher. I had her all 4 years of high school. For multiple classes, it wouldn’t have been the same without her. I love her.

recommend him for any student who wishes to either grasp fundamental skills or for the one who simply wishes to polish their own.
Additionally Larry has been able to introduce me to Shakespeare, a life long interest of mine... one which has always frustrated me do to my lack of understanding, in a non threatening, non stressful way.

I highly recommend him for any of your graduate school level exam preparations."
Kids who love to write may be off and running once the pen hits their hand, but other children might not feel comfortable writing unless given a few creative writing prompts. Creative prompts encourage imagination and provide a jumping off point for journal entries and stories. Even children who love to write may find it easier to work from a prompt because it gives them an area of focus - and it's fun! As a parent, one of the best ways to encourage your child's love of the written word is to pr …
