*** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson in my studio would begin with a brief question/answer time with the student to learn how their week has gone, and how their music practice is progressing.
For PIANO LESSONS we begin with Technique including scales and dexterity exercises, then we play from the Lesson book and a Recital selection. I typically let the student play through the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to play the piece again. After that we go over the Theory assignments, and do Ear Training exercises. I am comfortable teaching from a variety of different methods courses. The methods course is chosen according to the student's interest. I never require a piano student to continue using books that are not inspiring. There so many methods courses available, that a student may always be able to have methods books they LOVE.
In my SINGING LESSONS we also begin with a recap of the student's week. Then we continue with Warm Up exercises to prepare the student's voice for the lesson. Then we study Sight Singing and Solfege Singing (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do) to increase the student's listening skills. After that the student sings their selections. Like I do in Piano lessons, I listen to the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to sing the piece again. I am comfortable teaching many styles of vocal music including classical, Broadway, pop, rock, and Christian.
For MUSIC THEORY lessons, the study material is chosen according to the student's interest and age. Topics include notation, chord structure, chord progression, melodic structure, and harmony. I also incorporate Music Listening in the Music Theory lesson in order to learn from the masters in many styles of music. My Music Theory students will also have the opportunity to develop composition and songwriting skills if they desire.
My teaching style is structured and friendly, keeping the student's goals and interests at the forefront. I enjoy motivating students to reach their highest potential.
After 3 to 6 months in my studio my students will see improvement in their musical technique, ear training, music reading, notation, and knowledge. They will be preparing recital pieces for an upcoming performance. I provide three Studio Class performances (February, June, October) and one recital opportunity (December) a year. Most importantly, the student's love and appreciation of music will be growing.

I've taught ESL to many students, varying from people who could barely say "hello" to those who were just trying to get the past perfect continuous tense right. I love it.
I love learning languages in my spare time and practicing when I can. When I'm not looking a bit silly doing that, I'm usually reading, at a baseball game, hiking, or hanging out with friends. I keep active, making sure to run or climb a mountain when I can. However, it's equally as strong as my love for foods of all kinds.
I really look forward to getting to work with you and helping you with whatever I can!

I was an ESL student myself, and I remember exactly what and how I wanted my teacher to teach me.
I play the banjo, do all forms of arts, and have a never-dying crave for traveling. I lived in Brazil and Finland for a little while. I have a talent in learning new languages and am passionate about teaching them.
I have taught Chinese to people of all age. I specialize in teaching listening and speaking. If you would like to take lessons with me in person, then I am good at teaching reading and writing as well. My strength is in my patience for my students. I understand that learning a new language, especially Chinese, is not an overnight progress. As a language learner myself, I emphasize with the frustration, yet the excitement of learning the language and the cultu

She loves teaching and loves her students. Her main joy in teaching is watching her students grasp a new understanding and appreciation for their desired art and growing in their skills and talent. She loves seeing her students overcome obstacles. In her lessons, Leah sets the tone for care and a safe space to truly grow fearlessly. It is important to grow in confidence in your craft. In lessons, she covers setting a foundation, different genres, confidence, warm-up exercises, vocal techniques, ear training, music theory, harmony, performance techniques, audition preparation, range, improvisation, agility, freedom and more. She focusses on a few things at a time and has her students grow into other areas to work.

Originating from Henderson, North Carolina, she grew up singing in school, church and choirs including the Raleigh Girls Choir of Raleigh, NC. Taking singing and piano lessons grew her love for music. She always had a fondness of jazz music starting at a young age, as her father would play jazz music. Studying music has led her to perform in recitals, concerts and festivals such as the Mozart Music Festival with The Capital City Girl’s Choir in Vienna, Austria, to study and perform abroad in Valencia, Spain, to graduate from Berklee College of Music and to continue writing, performing and growing as an artist. Leah also enjoys being involved in and performing in community events as she gives back. It is very important to her to help others as many have helped her.
She gets much of her inspiration from influences such as Jesus Christ, her parents, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Dianne Reeves, Lisa Fischer, Sammy Davis Jr., Sade, Anita O’day, India Arie, Erykah Badu, Adele, Diana Ross, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Mary Mary, Robin Thicke, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Esperanza Spalding, Miles Davis, Al Jarreau, Nancy Wilson, Ledisi, Sounds of Blackness, Take 6, Gretchen Parlato, and Quincy Jones just to name a few.

I am very easy going, encouraging, and a great conversationalist. I completely customize lessons based on each students' skills and goals, as well as favorite topics, and how they learn best. I am knowledgeable on many subjects, and more importantly, good at getting students talking, no matter what age or background.
In January 2014, I began teaching classes and private lessons in Warsaw, Poland and later in Berlin, Germany. I have also taught in New York City and online via Skype, to people from various countries around the world. My father and his two brothers were all teachers, so I guess that is where I get my natural teaching ability.
I have a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Penn State University, where I also taught some classes. I also have business experience and can teach students to speak and write in English for any situation!

Below are reviews by some of my former students in Poland from e-korepetycje.net/chrisnyc/jezyk-angielski (translated from Polish into English). I have also taught students from Germany, Hungary, Sweden, Spain, South Korea, Argentina, China, Israel, France, Indonesia, Columbia and Turkey.
"A really good teacher and the great hour-long conversations with him provide guidance not drudgery. He is enthusiastic and cheerful, recommended." - Magda
"I worked with Chris for 3 months, and I'm very happy. We focused on conversation, vocabulary development (based on analysis of interrogated podcasts), and correction of pronunciation. With Chris, any subject can be interesting to talk about." - Wojtek
"He worked with my 10-year-old son Antek, inventing dialogues in English based on the boy's favorite superhero characters and their behavior. Chris is creative and always smiling, and Antek misses the lessons." - Jerzy
"Great lessons with a sense of humor. Conversations require thinking and combining vocabulary (no shortcuts and tips in Polish). Big emphasis on correct pronunciation and vocabulary. In a word, I highly recommend." - Michael
"I can recommend wholeheartedly. We have real discussions, not set topics, and discuss how certain words are challenging for us. From time to time we also have a lesson in which we process words or homophones that are difficult for us (thief/teeth). We strongly recommend to all who want to rise above the level of intermediate." - Pawel
"Chris is a really great conversationalist! He only speaks English, which forces you to think and conduct conversations only in English, which is half the battle! If I do not understand what he says, he will explain it in so many ways that I finally understand. He is a very open person, easy to talk with, problem-free, and has many interests, so you can talk about anything. I would recommend as a native speaker!" - Izabela

I have been teaching ESL for the past twelve years in places such as Japan, Turkey and the Czech Republic.
I work with students who are tired of being ‘stuck’ in their studies and careers. If you want to help yourself improve, we can work together. My students are my partners.
I specialize in helping language learners find the inner causes of stress, anxiety, lack of motivation and low self-esteem—all of which can limit their progress.
Helping students help themselves is my duty and joy.
I became a teacher because I wanted to connect with others. No matter your level or ability, communication is possible.
Abilities can be developed over time, with steady progress along the way. Doing things step-by-step is the key to improvement.
I give a lot of feedback, so you can see what your habits are. In this way, you can be aware of your most common mistakes, so that you can correct them. Self correction is the key to steady improvement.
Learning isn't a job (or punishment) it's an opportunity. Let's meet and see if we can find your path to improvement together, as a team.
