Having worked as a tutor for the past five years, I have extensive experience tutoring math, grammar, and reading comprehension to high school and middle school students and have a demonstrated history of score improvement and mastery of subject material by my students. I work with students of all levels and abilities on academic work and test prep.

My test prep students learn grammar, math, and reading comprehension. They learn strategies specific to the individual sections and question types. We work to fill any gaps in knowledge, and to create good habits that students can use to successfully move through the test efficiently and accurately.

I've had the pleasure of working along side Marie as a colleague. I was able to witness first hand her compassionate nature and her dedication towards her students and towards teaching. She sets the bar high for her students but helps them along in a caring and patient manner so that they can achieve all their goals. She is knowledgeable and experienced in her subject matter and I have no doubt that she can help your child reach success.

I had Ms. Marie for French and she was one of my favourite teachers. The amount of patience that she had with some of my very troublesome classmates was very inspiring because I always wondered how was she able to keep her composure so well. Her teaching methods worked and she always taught in a manner in which you would have no choice but to learn

Andrea works at the Writing Center at Grace Church School, a leading independent high school in lower Manhattan. I've taught there for the last couple years and make a point to send my students to the Writing Center (and her specifically, whenever possible) if they are struggling with any areas of their writing.

I've observed her in the Writing Center on a number of occasions, and she always does a great job navigating the difficult balance between helping students directly, and creating a path for them to work through questions on their own. She is direct, but supportive. She also is very perceptive of students' anxiety levels - many are kids who tend to stress about college and grades often - and how to change her tone, or comment with a personal anecdote, when what the student needs most is a moment to laugh or calm down.

Andrea's best skill in my opinion is teaching her tutees to adjust their priorities based on a deadline. She consults students whose papers are due in a couple of hours, and others who have a whole week left, and without being preachy gets across realistic expectations of what can be done within the timeframe.

Andrea connected with my daughter right away, encouraging her to push her writing in more creative directions. Andrea brought her bright personality to each lesson, making the writing process fun for my daughter. Together, they worked on her college admissions essay and a few English class assignments. Andrea helped my daughter overcome her writer's block and anxiety about writing to craft more personal, thoughtful essays. We are very pleased with the results!

My daughter had a great experience with Andrea as a writing tutor. Andrea helped her with her college admissions essay and she is attending Vassar in the fall - very pleased. Andrea is very patient, punctual, and has helped Claire gain confidence in her writing.

She has been extremely supportive to my daughter throughout the college application process in many ways. With her knowledge and expertise, her flexibility with meeting times and location (either at Breakaway Prep or FaceTime/Skype), following up with my daughter, her communication with me on progress being made and the well being of my daughter, the wonderful relationship she has with my daughter and her overall kindness has made our tutoring experience a superior one. My daughter absolutely loves her. I think she truly respects her because she balances encouragement, teaching the information so that my daughter can absorb the content, asks that my daughter work before they get together to make the most of their time, and ju"

"I️ was connected to Rod through a tutoring agency. I️ contacted the agency because I️ recently graduated college and wanted to get into grad school but had not taken a math class since the 10th grade. The school I️ was applying to needed a minimum math score for the GRE, which I️ knew would be a enormous stretch for me. Additionally, I️ always had trouble with math and knew I️ would need a tutor to re-teach me everything I️ needed to know to get the score I️ wanted. Initially, the agency connected me to 3 different tutors who were all absolutely terrible! Sometimes they didn’t even know how to answer sample questions in the workbooks! Finally, I was connected to Rod. After our first meeting I️ knew he would be the one who would help me improve. After a month of intense work with him my GRE math scores actually improved a full 12 points! Beyond that, he literally taught me math in a way in which I️ actually understood it. Before I️ just thought I couldn’t learn, but now I’m confident that I️ actually retained everything and it even made sense! I’m so grateful to have met Rod because before him I️ truly felt hopeless. I️ would definitely recommend Rod to anyone who is looking to drastically improve their math skills. If you’re like me and hate math, can’t grasp it, and even feel like you just can’t learn it, then definitely contact Rod now! You won’t be sorry!"

Gerardo explained the concepts where my son needed assistance, showed an example, and then observed Matt as he tried to work the problem on his own, adding assistance as needed. It was the right balance of support. Gerardo knew the concepts thoroughly even though it was the first meeting."
