Wow Sergey is really great at this! My daughter just turned 5 and is still practicing her headstands against the wall hours later. Sergey's advice to have her 'help' me practice MY stretching is a double win and making her more willing to do her pushups and splits too. We are really looking forward to the next class already. Thank you so much for all the advice and feeback post class too, Sergey!

I am a trained actress in my late 20's. I have experience coaching many professional working actors. I have worked on audition sides for TV (Law & Order, Narcos, Disney, SMILF, etc), independent films, big budget studio films, web series, off broadway plays, off off broadway plays, monologues, and anything in between with my students!

I am currently the creator, writer, lead actress & executive producer of my own comedic web series (to air mid-2018).

I have been trained by exceptional teachers in the following: Linklater (voice), Williamson (movement), film/tv & theater, script analysis, theater & film history, cold reading, monologue, stand-up comedy, etc. I have also been mentored by the legendary standup comedian Rick Crom.

I can also work with the actor, writer or comedian on the business aspect of their career: how can I
get the best headshot?, what things should I be doing everyday to reach my acting goals (some may not even be acting/writing/comedy!)?, how do I get in front of this specific casting director/producer/etc?, what events/workshops should I be attending? We can go over all that plus how to deal with nerves, get through personal blocks, fear-related patterns, and other things that may be holding you back from being the best artist you can be!

I believe training is so important so congrats on taking the first step towards a successful, exciting career! I can't wait to share my passions with you!

I have a self tape set-up with a backdrop, professional lighting & tripod. I am happy to be your reader & coach as we film your audition, scene or stand up set. We can use this as a tool to improve or film a self tape audition. We can also chose your best take together.

All ages are welcome. I am an experienced musician and educator with a B.M dual degree in Jazz Composition and Performance from Berklee College of Music, as well as a Master of Music Theory and Composition Degree in Scoring for Film and Multimedia from New York University.

I encourage learning with creativity and curiosity, which makes the lessons both fun and productive. I mainly teach voice, piano, music theory and composition lessons for all ages.

Besides these subjects, I also give lessons for ABRSM exam prep, college-bound musician prep, music theory placement exam, music history placement exam, ear training, arranging, orchestration, counterpoint, classical harmony, jazz harmony, Logic Pro, Sibelius and Pro Tools.

Formerly, I taught voice at City Music Mentoring Program in Boston, and worked as a music tutor at Berklee Coll
ege of Music Learning Center for subjects such as harmony, ear training, arranging and counterpoint. As a music tutor, I was responsible for helping students, who were having trouble, advance in these subjects.

Along with teaching, I continue working as a composer and performer for a variety of local and remote projects ranging from music for film to concert music for jazz orchestra.

Please let me know if you have any questions,
Looking forward to working with you!

I am a tap dance musician, writer, and visual artist.
My performance credits include Thomas Marek's show NOLA, the sound art/tap performance Homöostep, the Tap Ahead Festival, and Daniel Luka's T.A.P. My current main project is Neosole, which explores tap as a music instrument, as a full member of the rhythm section, not just soloing as a gimmick on top of the music, but being fully integrated, comping and providing a foundation for the musical context.
I have been invited to teach at renowned facilities such as tanzhaus nrw, tap club, and Rebeltanz, and to be a tap dancer in residence at Thomas Marek's Studio Footprints.
My artistic works have been featured in publications such as Average Art, The Tap Love Tour Podcast, What Moves You, and Not Random Art.
I first started tap dancing at the age of 10 under the direction of my Mom.
From then on, I was influenced by many different teachers and mentors, such as Barbara Duffy, Sebastian Weber, Pia Neises, Derick Grant, Sarah Petronio, and Heather Cornell, to only name a few. I graduated from the tap dance apprenticeship S.O.N.T.I. with magna cum laude.
I consider myself a musician, and the tap shoes are my instrument. My style is deeply rooted in the aesthetic of jazz music and heavily shaped by playing in numerous jam sessions around Europe and New York City, however, my art transcends the boundaries of genres. It is merely a tool to create the most genuine and sophisticated expression possible. A catalyst to explore art as an extension of the human experience.
I call myself a tap dance musician because neither dance nor music could exist without the other. However, I don't move to look a certain way, I move to sound a certain way.

About Aqeela
Aqeela Ali first fell in love with dance at the age of five in Brooklyn, New York. Her earliest memories of dance include learning jazz, tap, and ballet at The Dance Spot, a local dance studio. While attending Talent Unlimited, a performing arts High School in New York, she had the opportunity to go beyond her daily ballet and modern training by studying graham technique with The Martha Graham Dance Company and flamenco with Ballet Hispanico. Growing up in New York City, Aqeela was exposed to Hip-Hop culture and fell in love with the movement and music during her time in High School. After turning 21, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the commercial dance industry. She has been on the Ellen Show, Hulu, and has danced with a variety of artists including, but not limited to Beyonce, Nick Cannon, Sean Paul, and Kat de Luna.
Af
ter two years of dancing in the industry, Aqeela was certain that her dancing days were over. She was accepted into Teach for America and taught Kindergarten for two years in rural Oklahoma. Starting her own dance club at the school and watching her students blossom and grow inspired her to dance again. The question was...which style?! During Teach for America, she met her husband, a native Atlantan and they moved back to Georgia after their two year commitment. In Georgia, she was introduced to the Calo Gitano Flamenco Dance Academy, which reignited her love and passion for flamenco that she discovered in High School.
Through Calo Gitano, Aqeela met artists from Spain such as Miguel Vargas, Carmen Ledesma, Lydia Caballo, and Daniela Tugues. After a year of studying Flamenco with Calo Gitano, she spent the summer of 2018 at the National Institute of Flamenco studying under Joaquin Encinias. During this time, Miguel Vargas had convinced her that she should move to Seville and train to become a bailaora. So she bought a one way ticket for Spain and in August she found herself studying intensively under Miguel Vargas, Ursula and Tamara Lopez, Lorena Franco, Ana Morales, and Alicia Marquez. Now, in her second year of studying flamenco, Aqeela knows more than ever that she wants to spend her entire life studying and learning this beautiful and passionate form of expression. Her dream is to one day open up her own school where she teaches children a variety of styles they can use to express themselves.

I struggled for years feeling uncoordinated and wildly throwing my hips around whenever I tried dancing with my wife. Aqeela patiently worked with us to help me feel like I actually have control over my body. She taught me the importance of having a variety of moves to match the song/tempo instead of just moving about wildly. I was hesitant to work with someone because I felt very self-conscious but she was so patient and understanding that I was quickly put at ease and ended up really enjoying the experience and wanted more! Her passion for dance is only matched by her ability as all the moves she showed us seemed so flawless and graceful. My version of those same dance moves didn't look quite as graceful but dramatically improved and my wife couldn't be happier!

Its so rare to find a person who is both extremely talented as well as an amazing teacher. I can’t express how much my daughter has learned from Miss Aqeela. Apart from learning a wide variety of dance styles she teaches kids to believe in themselves. We have watched our girl transition from being shy and restrained onstage to one who is confident and captivating to watch. The level of dedication Miss Aqeela shows to every student cannot be overstated!

I’ve never worked with someone as hardworking, and inspiring as Aqueela. We ran an art camp for three summers in a row. She taught up to 60+ kids and is so passionate about dance that these kids just couldn’t wait to come to camp the next day in order to work with her. Parents said they were practicing their moves at home!! You know how hard it is to teach that many kids to do hip hop dance???? 100% participation 100% of the time.

It was amazing. I learned so much as an educator and those kids left the cAmp so proud and eager to learn more about dance because of her. Oh ya and she also led them to design a dance for a showcase for their parents and community.

By far the best dance instructor I have ever worked with and cannot wait to work with her again. When my son grows up I will definitely be reaching out to her so she can teach him the moves.

About Michael
My name is Mike. I am a professionally-trained actor who has experience in a number of different acting techniques. My passion lies in theater and I have performed in a number of on-stage productions ranging from classical to contemporary. I am passionate about this work and seeing my students grow both personally and professionally.

I get to know my students on a personal level so that I can custom-tailor a training program that will help maximize their potential and their growth as artists.

My teaching philosophy consists of two parts:

First: Your life is inspiring. Your experiences are unique. And your perspective is unlike anyone else's on this planet. As actors, we tend to get audition material and generalize it immediately and create an idea of what our character should be. And then we advance a general idea of that prototy
pe. This is a travesty. In truth, your life has given you experiences and emotions that are real and that you can draw from to justify and anchor any choice at all. You may not believe it, but this is true. My first job as a teacher is to validate you as a person.

Second: Your emotions must be real, but you’re not allowed to show them in a way that is artificial or pretentious. Most actors make the same mistake when they get a scene. They get too excited. “This scene is great! So much good emotion! It’s been so long since I’ve really sunk my teeth into good material. I can’t wait to kill it!” And believe me, I get it. As an actor, sometimes the bait is too attempting not to take. But be weary of falling into this trap. If you show the audience your cards the entire time, they will know exactly where you’re heading.

And if they know where you're heading, they won't remain interested for long. The other thing to recognize is that in real life, which we as actors are always trying to re-create, we tend to cover up our emotions and play it cool.

All of this to say that the craft of the scene lies in what you cover up and what you decide to show.

I teach it as a two-part process. In the first part, you over-act. You blow it out of the water. You yell, you cry, you laugh, you improvise, you go nuts and do all the things you know you can’t do in front of a casting director. This is done not to teach you "bad habits" but instead, so you can get a sense of what you wish you could do but can't.

In the second part, you cover it up by not showing anything. And from there, we see what needs to come out. As the great Sanford Meisner once said, "Don't do anything until something happens to make you do it." This requires enormous self-restraint and patience. But ironically, something always does happen.
