Lessons are provided in a private studio in Astoria, NY or your home. Once, a location is established I work with each student to identify his or her goals and objectives both musically and personally. Students are assessed to determine where their individual ability is at the time of assessment. From there, I work in partnership with the student as we begin mastering the guitar or the piano in a fun and supportive environment. Whether you are interested in learning to play the blues, classical or jazz guitar or any other genre or just learning how to play songs on the piano, I can help. If you are a beginner, don't worry it won't all be scales. In fact I guarantee you will be playing a song within your first lesson. If you are an advanced or intermediate student, I can help you master your skills. We (you and I) will revisit proper right and left hand techniques; utilize exercises to improve your speed and accuracy. You will learn new methods to strengthen your improvisation abilities. In short, you and I will make sure to build on your strengths and undo any bad habits that are hindering your ability to grow as a guitarist or pianist.

*** Specialties ***
music, Guitar and Piano
I begin with meeting the student where they are in relation to their musical experience. After establishing trust, through encouragement I empower students to recognize their potential with out pre-determined expectations or limits. I am comfortable in various genres from classical to punk.

Young students new to piano will start out with the Edna Mae Burnham Step-By-Step piano series, which fosters music reading skills from the very beginning. After the first book, we continue into the Faber series, and couple each new piece with a theory activity to solidify the new material as well as scales. Each week, my students pick a personal goal to do at home that can include theory worksheets, memorizing a piece, practicing every day, and more. 20 completed goals gets a special prize!

Adult students will start out on the Alfred piano course.

About Erin
I have 10+ years experience teaching piano, voice, songwriting, and ukulele to all ages! I'm a fun teacher who believes that everyone has a musician inside them waiting to come out. Patience is my creed, but I also have expectations for my students in line with their potential.

I teach from Edna May Burnam and Faber books for piano, with classical, jazz, and contemporary styles. For voice, I use the Vaccai method to teach classical, musical theater, jazz, and pop. That being said, YOUR preference is what's important, and together we will figure out what works best for you.

I also have lots of experience teaching children with various special needs, ranging in levels of function.

A recital will be scheduled in June of each year for students to strut their stuff!

I split my time between teaching and writing musical theater. My
first Off-Broadway show debuted in June 2018! I also enjoy cooking, reading, and hanging out with my dogs.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to provide their instruments when I go to their homes. They require their own materials.

I have been teaching piano for beginners for several years. I'm a very dedicated teacher, listener and I want to motivate my students to know, learn and listen better and better. First of all, I'm interested in knowing the student's goals and work from there.

About André
I'm a motivated and good listener teacher who loves to see his students accomplish their objectives. I have a Masters degree in Jazz from the Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor in Classical Double Bass from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Austria. I'm a active musician, both as a leader of my projects as well as sideman. I have played all around Europe, Egypt as well as much around in the new York area. I have also released two albums under my name, composing all the music in both of them.

I have been teaching for 4 years. Right after finishing my Bachelor degree, I started teaching in two music schools in Portugal: Academia de Amadores de Música (one of the most important music schools in Lisbon) and ESTAL. I have also made part of the staff of the Conservatório de Música of Azores, where I traveled monthly to
teach local students. I have taught double bass, music theory and conducted the school's orchestra. Since I moved to New York, I taught through the Manhattan School of Music Outreach Department, teaching young students about Jazz and Improvisation. I have also taught privately in my home studio, both bass and double bass as well as piano and theory.

My approach to teaching involves developing a comprehensive understanding of what one is doing while playing, rather than just learning a couple of songs, or relying solely on your muscle memory, you will be able to explain what you are doing from a theoretical standpoint.

Without getting too heavy with the use of technical terms, I will teach you to see the underlying threads that apply to all styles of music and encourage you to begin making these types of connections yourself.
This is an important skill to develop early so that as you progress you can begin to teach yourself develop your own unique stylistic approaches to music!

After studying at Laguardia High school for the Performing Arts, I attended McGill University in Montreal where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Jazz Piano Performance.

If you study with me you will be able to expand your knowledge of:
-Music Theory
-Harmony
-Piano technique
-Ear Training
-Sight Reading
-Composition
-Improvisation

About Chris
Born and raised in downtown Manhattan, I have studied music for over 15 years now. When I was about 8 years old I started studying classical piano, and to be perfectly honest, it was like pulling teeth to get me to play.
The repetitious nature of learning classical etude after etude wore down upon me at that young age and it was hard for me to focus on it.

Then I learned about the blues scale and picked up the electric guitar...
After starting to play some blues piano and studying with guitar player
Scott Sharrard of the Gregg Allman band, I started to really enjoy playing music.
I was also playing Trumpet in my middle school band (NYC Lab school) although the constant upkeep trumpet requires made it hard to study three instruments at once...

I proceeded to go to Laguardia High school where I decided to zero in on the piano, studying t
heory and piano technique extensively, and deciding to study jazz as well as classical music.
I began to compose my own tunes and study improvisation diligently, and ended up earning my Bachelor's degree from McGill University.
If you choose to study with me, I will guarantee that you will have fun and see music as more than just a sequence of abstract notes... you will learn how certain chord progressions imply certain emotional settings, and how to manipulate those progressions into creating a scene or narrative!

Now I have record my own jazz albums, and play keyboards in a rock band called "Caverns" based here in NYC.

Additionally, I am also fluent in Ableton and record my own electronic music which I am willing to teach, as it is an important skill in the 21st century music scene.
Thank you for your consideration!
-Chris

Hi! I'm Nina, and even though I'm only 17, I've been playing the piano for over a decade and have been teaching since 2015. I have most experience with beginner and intermediate students at a preK-12 level. In my lessons, I prioritize the cultivation of creativity, musicianship, and artistry in lessons, so I tend to focus on teaching students the theory behind their pieces in addition to technique. My goal with each student is to help them become the musician they see themselves as in their mind's eye.

Students will receive free summary sheets that show of all the concepts they learned that day, as well as their practice material for the week.

I look forward to helping your child realize their full potential!

About Nina
Hi! I'm Nina, and even though I'm only seventeen, I've been playing the piano for over a decade and have been teaching since 2015. I began playing piano when I was just five years old, when my mother began working overtime as a maid to pay for the lessons. After we moved out to Texas, I began working as a piano teacher and accompanist for vocal competitions -- all before getting out of middle school.

Now that I've settled in Jersey, I've become the accompanist for my high school's choir, and have continued to teach lessons across Hudson County. In addition to being classically trained, I have cultivated my ear and improvisation skills so deeply that I can play any song in the world just by listening to it a few times.

This duality helps me tailor lessons to fit the individual goals of the student. Whether you want to learn the tra
ditional classical method, begin writing your own music, or just want to play your favorite pop tunes, I can help you become the musician you've always wished you could be. I have most experience with beginner and intermediate students at a K-12 level.

In each lesson, you will receive a free summary sheet that details of all the material covered during the lesson and enumerates the practice material for that week. I understand that it can be difficult to afford lessons, so I am very flexible in payment and am willing to work with your budget.

I look forward to helping you become a better musician!
