I've been teaching piano for over ten years. I am able to teach all styles of music. I teach to inspire, this is the philosophy that I teach by. I use Faber & Faber for beginner students and then I move on to Mozart, Bach, Chopin, Monk, and other great pianists.

I'm currently working on a Master's Degree in Music Production and Sound Design at The Academy of Art University, freelancing as a pianist/vocalist, and I'm working on and recording a second album.

I started singing, playing piano, and composing music when I was seven years old. Throughout my musical career, I have performed and collaborated with various rock bands, classical trios, vocal ensembles, churches, and theater groups.

My Education includes Berklee College of Music, Academy of Art University, McNally Smith College of Music, MCTC, and Full Sail University (BS and AAS degrees in Music Performance, Sound Arts/sound Engineering, Music Production).

I enjoy writing and playing classical, electronic, rock, jazz,
folk, punk, and experimental music. In my free time I like to circuit bend.

I am very diligent with practicing, teaching you how to practice, and keeping track of it. In 3 or 6 months you will have a basic understanding of music theory and a solid foundation of piano, voice, or guitar techniques. I thrive to boost self esteem and confidence in all the students that I teach. I also teach composition, students really enjoy writing their own songs and performing them.

Our first piano lesson with Tamara was really pleasant. She was very welcoming and attentive the whole time. I can tell my son was really enjoying the lesson. The details with the progress sheet and flash cards she provided was a plus for me. Her studio space also made the experience really great!

About Barbara
I graduated with my Bachelors in Music and Psychology with a focus on opera voice in 2009. In my performance program I really grew as a vocalist and learned how to overcome my own obstacles and improve my vocal technique for myself. I feel confident now in sharing my experience and my education with my students so they are able to really grow and improve as well. I started professionally and privately studying vocal technique when I was 17 and prior to that I was performing musical theater in school and in community performance groups. I really found my passion in classical repertoire and studied with numerous private teachers who were professional opera singers such as, Carol Yahr, Maria Fattore, and Annelise Von Georken. Wanting to share my passion for music and help others reach their full potential as a singer I went back for my m
asters program in music education at Hofstra University where I am currently finishing up my degree. Hofstra has really broadened my knowledge of teaching styles and pedagogies. I am also currently student teaching in public schools as well so I am teaching young adults and young children everyday and I know how to accommodate for different learning styles and help all children.

*** Lesson Details ***
I really want my students to enjoy singing and find a passion in performing. I truly believe that singing should be a combination of passion and also technique. My lessons will focus on the fundamentals of singing in order to provide healthy vocal technique and a beautiful tone. It is extremely important in all genres for singing to have support, be able to use breath properly and have an understanding how of use the voice as an instrument properly to achieve a beautiful tone. After a few I would like students to not only have improved their sound and have songs they are confident in performing, but an understanding of how to read music and sight singing at the level of the student. I also focus on performance and making sure that my students not only sound beautiful and gain the proper vocal technique but that they perform to the public and have great stage presence. Being able to convey meaning and emotion to a song while performing is equally as important as singing properly. I also love to help students be creative and write and create their owns songs.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/ piano seating for parents. I also recommend students bring their own recording device to record their vocal lessons. An iPhone or smart phone works just fine.

*** Specialties ***
I really enjoy and teaching classical music and opera voice. Although I teach all different styles and genres, from broadway to pop, to classical, and jazz. It is extremely important to have great breathe support and ability to create resonance in order to have a beautiful legato tone. With piano I teach beginners how to read music, play in tempo and basic right hand and left hand coordination.

I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

Brooklyn-based private music teacher operating in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Over a decade of experience teaching a broad range of styles to students of all ages and backgrounds. Strong focus on the individual student's personal interests and goals. Master's degree in music with years of experience touring globally and recording for both major and indie labels.
Whether you're looking to begin your or your child's piano learning experience, or take your playing to the next level, it's my passion to get students playing the music they want to play, right from the beginning!

About Ken
A recent transplant to the Park Slope area, I'm a composer and multi-instrumentalist originally from Raleigh, North Carolina. Prior to receiving my master's degree in composition from Mannes (The New School), I was the lead guitarist in the indie rock band Annuals. As part of this group I signed with two major record labels, appeared on national television programs such as Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and performed globally both on tour and at prominent festivals such as Bonnaroo, Coachella, Glastonbury (England), and Roskilde (Denmark).

I have been teaching private music lessons for twelve years, both freelance and as part of various organizations. My approach to teaching is highly dynamic—I don't use the same method with every student and I have no stylistic prejudices or an agenda to push. I approach each student as an individual
, tailoring lesson plans to suit their personal goals and interests. I have experience playing and teaching an extensive range of styles including pop, rock, jazz, country, metal, and classical. One of my main goals is to foster a sense of musical understanding with every student so that they may learn to combine technical, theoretical, and aural skills into a unified whole.

Most students want to learn to play songs they know and love. To that end, I get students playing the music they want to play right from the beginning, often through personally crafted arrangements of songs/pieces of the student's choosing, specifically tailored to their current skill level. This way, technical and theoretical skills are learned through direct experience with actual music, and only very rarely through rote exercise.

For more advanced players, I offer an array of strategies designed to take your playing to the next level. I find that the most common shortcomings of advanced players are conceptual. The technical skills are there but the level of conceptual and theoretical understanding has hit a wall. Many players find themselves playing the same chord shapes, melodic patterns, and harmonic progressions over and over again. I've had much success over the years in getting advanced students out of this rut and helping open up new pathways for exploration in both improvisation and composition.

I've been playing off and on for 15 years and am mostly self taught. I knew what I wanted to learn but was having trouble figuring it out on my own. In the first lesson Ken was able to zero in on what I want to learn and the best way to go about it. In three lessons I feel that I understand the guitar so much more than I have in the past 15 years of playing. Not only from a technical standpoint, but also in a "feel" sense. On my own I could learn all the scales, chords, and songs I wanted, but Ken has helped me to make sense of everything and use these skills to become a better player all around.

Ken is an incredibly talented musician and teacher and I would recommend him to anyone. He tailors his lessons to meet the individual goals of his students. If I wasn't understanding something, he knew how to explain it in a different way until I understood. He also taught me some techniques for figuring out songs on my own which I really appreciate since I am about move out of NYC. However, if I wasn't leaving I would still be taking lessons with him!

Ken is an outstanding musician/composer who I have had the privilege of taking lessons from for years up until I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music production career. My favorite part about Ken is his perceptiveness in teaching. He can always tell when i am not understanding something, and he will address it before I have to say "I don't get it." Which would keep my confidence level up during the lesson. He is also EXTREMELY versatile in his musical ability. I have come to him with everything from death metal, to impressionist classical, to electronica and he never skips a beat. He is very passionate about music, which transfers to his students easily due to his easy going nature, and natural skill for teaching. It is no exaggeration in my mind to say he is the best musician I have ever known personally. On top of all of this, Ken is an incredible song writer, and composer.... He does it all!

I believe piano lessons should be both enjoyable and tailored to the individual. First, I lay the groundwork by teaching music theory, scales, and finger dexterity exercises. We then play various pieces (from both supplemental books and students' own choices) based on the level of each student. As we work on pieces together, I teach minimalist movements to help the student apply the foundation of music theory and scale work to each piece.

About Ross
I am an opera singer and private music instructor in New York City.

I cater my lessons to my students’ individual goals, firmly believing that a strong framework in classical technique can support any style of music. I love watching my students become passionate about music, achieve their goals, and reach their greatest potential as musicians. Using my experience and flexibility, I create a learning environment that is both engaging and fun.

I developed a passion for music at a young age and have been studying piano for 18 years. I received my BA in Language and Culture with a double minor in Vocal/Opera Performance and Italian, as well as my MA in Vocal Performance. While earning my MA, I coached voice, piano, and language diction to the undergraduate and masters students.

Since then, I have been actively singing in the city with var
ious opera companies as well as doing concert work. I also teach piano and voice to students of all ages, both privately and at Trevor Day School.

I have given recitals and performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras at numerous music festivals, including the Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk, the International Chopin Festival in Nohant (France), the Harbin Summer Music Festival (China), Martisor 2003 Music Festival in Chisinau (Moldova), the Music Festival in Bad Gandersheim (Germany), Ionio Festival Paolo Carrer (Greece), the Bebersee Festival (Germany) and at Cultural Days Festival in Frankfurt am Main.

In 2013 EMI Classics released my first solo album „Tadeusz - piano”, which includes works by Scarlatti, Schumann, Liszt, Prokofiev and virtuoso transcriptions by Vladimir Horowitz. The album received excellent reviews from critics: „Whoever likes great piano music and virtuosity will not be disappointed after listening to Tadeusz. A splendid debut!” (Stanislaw Dybowski), „His future career of a virtuoso is certain, the instrument sounds beautiful in his hands, in a rounded tone, the lightness and proficiency of difficult parts inspires jealousy, not only recognition.” (Kacper Miklaszewski).

I teach to develop musicianship but also to help establish balanced minds in my students. I instruct my students so that they build discipline and persistence, and create good music along the way. I hope you will leave my classes inspired and with an appreciation for music that will bring a lifetime's worth of joy!

About Monica
I am a Taiwanese pianist, singer, producer and composer who is based in New York City. I graduated from Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University with a Bachelor of Music, specifically piano performance. I am currently a M.M./M.A. candidate at Mannes College of Music, The New School. Additionally, I teach Mandarin Chinese to those who would are curious about Chinese culture and language.

I teach piano students of all different ages and experience levels. I studied classical piano professionally since I was 3, and violin since I was 7. I have been teaching piano for almost 10 years. I teach students basic knowledge of piano and music, such as technique, how to read music, the right position and so on. Besides the foundation, I believe that musicianship is the most important thing to learn and experience. I hope to not only teach my s
tudents how to play the instrument but also the appreciation and love for music. I also perform regularly in United States, Taiwan, and UK.

As a Chinese teacher, I often find lots of similarities between successful piano students and Chinese students. Both require consistent hard-works and strong eagerness to learn. I have a flexible curriculum that will accommodate each student's need.

I teach my students in my conveniently-located workplace in downtown Manhattan and online through professional equipment. I can also travel to student's home in New York City if the commute is doable. I look forward to meeting you!
