About Steven
Hailing from New York City, Steven W. has been involved in the performing arts his entire life, which began as he received his training from a number prestigious arts institutions...Julliard (where he studied piano), New York University (where he studied music education), and the Katie Agresta Vocal Studio (whose other students include Sting, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lenox and many more, including the casts of numerous Broadway shows).

Steven is currently an indie rock solo singer/musician/producer with a number of albums in release (on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and more); recently spent two months as NY's #1 indie artist on Reverbnation's charts, and continues to perform all over the country. Steven also records and tours with country artists, playing huge festivals all over the world.

Having performed on small cabaret stages
for just a few people, and in stadiums for 60,000, he believes in not only teaching technique, but also how to tailor a performance for the appropriate situation. It's this combination of technical training, and performance experience, that Steven brings to his classes as a teacher.

Steven was great with my 8 year old daughter. He got her excited about learning guitar, so much so that her 6 year old brother begged us to take lessons as well. He was also very responsive to my questions and made some very helpful suggestions about how to enhance the experience for her. We were so sad that he moved away!

I had to attend a buddy's Wedding. I'm in my fifties and never been a good dancer. When I attended Wedding receptions two to three decades ago, I would manage to get through the dancing, sort of. This time, however, there was no getting around it. I would have to know how to dance because the woman that was accompanying me to the Wedding and reception was a Dance minor in College! I had a month to get it together so I contacted Michelle through Take Lessons.

Michelle is a patient knowledgeable teacher. She started me with basic dancing steps to “Panda Bear - Doin' it Right .” The basic dance steps that Michelle taught me can be used for virtually all Rock/Disco/Techno music that you will encounter. The tempos might vary, but the steps remain the same. When I became more proficient Michelle taught me line dances such as the “Macarena” and the “Cha Cha Slide.”

When I attended the Wedding reception with the Dance minor, I was confident and comfortable on the Dance floor thanks to Michelle!

Highly Recommended.

About Carolyn
A graduate of Fordham University at Lincoln Center as well as The Juilliard School's Drama Division, I have been teaching and coaching students for over 10 years.

I have a broad range of students that include young actors here in New York, as well as students applying to high school, college theater, and conservatory training programs.

Each series of sessions begins with an assessment of the student's needs. The Series is then tailor-made for the student based on their individual goals.

All sessions last an hour and can be done in person at a studio location in Manhattan or via Skype. Every session begins with vocal/physical warm-up, brief imaginative work, and then detailed text analysis in connection to the piece.

Past clients of mine have been accepted to NYU's Undergraduate Theater Program, Carnegie Mellon, Fordham, and
Fiorello LaGuardia High School. I've served as a member of the Theater faculty for Harlem School of the Arts, Henry Street Settlement, and The Kentucky Center for the Arts. And I am currently a Guest Artist for Manhattan Theater Club's Education Dept.

I coach because I care about the work. Dedication to my students comes from a deep love for what I do, and the possibility that I can help inspire them through the work as well.

Carolyn has been such a gift to work with! I'm currently in college for acting and when I went to her for help on getting over a block in my progress I not only noticed but physically felt a difference in my acting technique. I've now had multiple classes with her and will be continuing classes with her because she has helped me develop my technique in ways some of my schooling hasn't. She's also been very flexible with figuring out dates and times for our next class which has been important for me with my busy schedule. I've had online classes with her and in person (which she lets me know when she's in the city in case I want to do an in person class) and both ways have been beneficial for me. I truly believe you will see valuable growth as a performer if you take lessons with Carolyn!!

About Sandra
I am a tap dance musician, writer, and visual artist.
My performance credits include Thomas Marek's show NOLA, the sound art/tap performance Homöostep, the Tap Ahead Festival, and Daniel Luka's T.A.P. My current main project is Neosole, which explores tap as a music instrument, as a full member of the rhythm section, not just soloing as a gimmick on top of the music, but being fully integrated, comping and providing a foundation for the musical context.
I have been invited to teach at renowned facilities such as tanzhaus nrw, tap club, and Rebeltanz, and to be a tap dancer in residence at Thomas Marek's Studio Footprints.
My artistic works have been featured in publications such as Average Art, The Tap Love Tour Podcast, What Moves You, and Not Random Art.
I first started tap dancing at the age of 10 under the direction of my Mom.
From then on, I was influenced by many different teachers and mentors, such as Barbara Duffy, Sebastian Weber, Pia Neises, Derick Grant, Sarah Petronio, and Heather Cornell, to only name a few. I graduated from the tap dance apprenticeship S.O.N.T.I. with magna cum laude.
I consider myself a musician, and the tap shoes are my instrument. My style is deeply rooted in the aesthetic of jazz music and heavily shaped by playing in numerous jam sessions around Europe and New York City, however, my art transcends the boundaries of genres. It is merely a tool to create the most genuine and sophisticated expression possible. A catalyst to explore art as an extension of the human experience.
I call myself a tap dance musician because neither dance nor music could exist without the other. However, I don't move to look a certain way, I move to sound a certain way.

About Rebecca
Hi! I'm Rebecca, a professional ballet and contemporary ballet based in New York. I studied ballet and contemporary dance at the North Carolina School of the Arts and Alonzo King's LINES Ballet. I've danced with Nevada Ballet Theatre, Terra Firma Dance Theatre, Azoth Dance Theatre, Ballet Inc, among other companies and projects in New York. Dance is my life and my passion, and I love to share it with others, on the stage and in the studio. I have been teaching ballet for 5 years, and am currently working with students at Premiere Division, an elite professional training program for ballet dancers.

I learned early on in my career the importance of working in a healthy way that kept me from injury and supported my artistry, one that included cross-training. This led me to yoga and Gyrotonic/Gyrokinesis. I was certified to teach As
htanga Vinyasa yoga in 2008, and then in Gyrotonic in 2011. These modalities have been a source of strength, flexibility, and focus in my body and mind. They've changed my dancing and my life!

Always the curious learner, I also went to Columbia University while dancing in New York, studying part-time while performing. I graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in Anthropology in 2016.

I truly love teaching, and hope to get to share the joy of movement with you!
