About Detrece
DeTrece "Dee" Lavender is a native of Miami, Florida. When her family moved to Sarasota, she was afforded the opportunity to study music and the performing arts as a student of the Westcoast School/Henry L. Porter School of Music. It was then that Dee began to understand the power of the creative arts as an effective form of emotional expression and release. By middle school, DeTrece began fine tuning her natural talents by studying classical voice which earned her several starring roles in the Sarasota Youth Opera, The Aslo Theater and the Players Theater. She is also a proud former member of the Westcoast Black Theater Troop in Sarasota, FL. Under the caring leadership of these opportunities, she was able to combine musical and life experiences in order to offer a more well rounded educational and musical experience for her students.

She was awarded a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where she received a dual Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy and Vocal Performance (Class of 2003). It was through her service as a music therapist, Millieu (residential) counselor and music teacher in the Boston City Public Schools/Greater Boston Metropolitan Area, that she began to feel the call toward a greater understanding of the gravity and role of the socio-emotional needs of students (and their families/villages) in urban settings. This call brought her to Baltimore, MD where she enrolled in the Pastoral Counseling Masters of Science program at Loyola University. In addition to her studies, she currently teaches Elementary and Middle School choir/ Musicianship teacher in the Baltimore City Public Schools through the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's OrchKids Program. She also serves as Minister Of Music and Arts at two local churches.

My name is Eric Matthew Brown I am a tutor with a four year college degree (B.A.) in math and philosophy and a sum total of thirteen years experience in professional tutoring. I love to tutor math and see students gain the knowledge necessary to succeed in their math courses and standardized tests. I put emphasis on theoretical comprehension and in tutoring I exhibit precision, clarity, and most of all patience. Frequent repetition and further explanation of theorems and definitions are necessary. I also have the ability to tutor logic, politics, and civics (American government).

Acting – I have taught all kinds of acting, including Audition Skills, Shakespeare, Stage, Film & TV, Dramatic, Comedic, whatever. I also have quite a bit of experience performing in all those arenas. I have a relationship with one of the best management agencies in the area, so my students get fast-tracked with her.

Voice – Anyone can sing. If you want to and have always thought you couldn't, you will be delighted when I prove you wrong. Training for the voice is pretty much the same, whatever style you are interested in. Then I'll coach you in your chosen style and we'll pick songs you like.

Singing beautifully is not enough. I can't tell you how many times I heard in grad school "beautiful voices are a dime a dozen." I will teach you how to OWN the song. That's what keeps people coming back.

Speaking – Every public spe
aker I know has lost their voice at some point, but not from talking too much. It's because they don't know how to use their voice properly. Learn that, and you need never lose your voice to over-use. That's easy to teach.

Writing – I have been a professional writer and editor for over eight years, with many books, articles, posts, newsletters, etc. to my name. I use – and teach – practical grammar, not just correct grammar. I can also help you make your words more powerful.

I've been taking lessons with Susan Scher for about two months now. I can easily say I've been impressed at how much I've improved. I look forward to lessons every week. I feel that soon enough I'll be able to audition for roles in film and television. If you live in the Baltimore area and are interested in voice acting or any acting in general. Contact her and go, you won't be disappointed.

I did not know what to expect when I signed up to take classes with Susan. I decided to take classes with her for two reasons: Her studio is not far from me and 2, the good reviews left by her clients. All I wanted was to learn the fundamentals and techniques about acting. Susan was excellent and very patient. She offered water in each lesson, which is also very kind. Her interpersonal connection brings a sense of comfort. Her studio is very neat and welcoming. I do not have regrets in my selections and I know you won't be disappointed too.

Mojy is BEST INSTRUCTOR EVER, very knowledgeable and passionate about the Persian Languages and teaching. She is very positive and wouldn't let you go to the next step before she makes sure you have learned what you need with fun and enthusiasm. She is very educated and learned about both Persian language and culture. She has a great understanding of the students' needs. Well, She is very pushy, but that is what we need to pass DLPT . I would not have GOTTEN 3/3+ if I would not have had Mojy for my teacher. Go Mojy! ;)

Mojy is by far the most qualified and talented language instructor I have ever had. After a week of class it was clear that she was an instructor that was on a completely different level than my instructors in the past. While under her instruction i vastly improved in every facet of my language, both in skill and in confidence. Her class room provides a relaxed but highly focused environment, and she genuinely cares about her student's success. If you give her your attention and effort then you will not be disappointment with the results.

I can't recommend her highly enough. She knows what material works and how to explain complex grammatical concepts effectively. Best teacher ever!

Stephen has been my son's sax teacher for a year. I was reluctant to look for a teacher online, but was frustrated and unsuccessful in finding one through traditional methods. Stephen far exceeded my expectations. Stephen enhanced and furthered my son's musical education, tailoring lessons and including the music my son was eager to learn. The music director at school asked where my son was taking lessons because she could hear the difference when he played, saying that his individual practice time at school was focused and directed in a meaningful way.

Stephen also guided my son through the college audition process, providing targeted feedback on everything from music selections to proper preparation, while offering realistic insight into the process. Stephen has been a fantastic influence and I am most grateful.

I have had such an excellent experience with my saxophone teacher, Stephen. He is extremely patient, always encouraging and is very easy to work with.
Stephen has made may alterations to his teaching style to accommodate my visual impairment, enabling me to continually learn music in a most rewarding fashion.
I am learning how to read music, play by ear and practice songs of my choosing as well as standard practice lessons.

I am grateful to have such a professional, patient and understanding teacher who is excited about music and teaching it.

I have to recommend taking lessons with him as a beginner and as an advanced skilled individual looking to brush up on your skills

I am excited at the beginning and end of every lesson. I walk out with something to look forward to practicing and something to come back to my lesson to show.

As a beginner Sax player and also being new to music, I could not have found a better instructor! Although Stephen is well versed in music beyond his years, he still has the patience and willingness to meet me at my level and explain concepts that makes his class fun and interesting! He has a technical approach that I like and is prepared to discuss music theory to help broaden my understanding! You will also like his personality!!

Are you preparing for (gulp) college auditions? Getting ready for a big presentation at work? Curious about acting and want to give a shot? Whatever your performance goals might be, I can't wait to take your work to the next level!

I am a lifelong actor and passionate teacher, who loves to help students find joy, freedom, and dynamism in performance.

I have an MFA from the Academy for Classical Acting at George Washington University/ The Shakespeare Theatre of DC (the only MFA in the world specifically devoted to acting Shakespeare) and a BFA from NYU-Tisch (with a focus on musical theatre at CAP 21). I have been a member of Actors' Equity since age 19, and have played leading roles off-Broadway (The Mint Theater, The Actors’ Studio) and regionally (Bucks County Playhouse, Fireside Theatre, East Lynne Theatre, etc), with notabl
e reviews in Variety, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and many others.

In addition to performing, I am a Standardized Patient at UMD and John's Hopkin's University, where I assist doctors and nurses in patient communication. As a teaching artist, I have worked with students age 5-88 on finding and sharing their unique voice.

As your coach, we will patiently and persistently discover the methods that enable your absolute best work. I am a certified Yoga teacher, and I love to draw on principles of mindfulness in performance preparation. From Linklater voice work, to Mask exercises, to breath awareness, we will develop a method that works for you. Best of all: we'll have a blast doing it.

I have had several lessons with Jennie Bissell in my home. I often give lectures in academic settings, and I was hoping to improve the quality and fluency of my speech to a level equivalent to top public speakers. Working with Jennie, I made improvements beyond what I could have expected. We worked on a variety of breathing and relaxation techniques used by professional actors. By focusing on producing speech "on voice" the quality and ease of understanding of my speaking increased substantially with immediate benefits. I highly, highly recommend her services for anyone interested in improving their public speaking skills.

I have had two lessons with Jennie via Skype. Both were excellent. I have participated in many public speaking classes and coaching sessions. What makes Jennie's approach unique is that she shares the techniques she has learned as an actor - to help you be more relaxed and natural in your delivery, to improve the quality and resonance of your voice, and to make the way you deliver your lines more interesting and effective.

I'm a young Realtor and entrepreneur with a deep passion for learning and math. Throughout all my schooling I've excel at math taking courses with students a grade level higher than my own. I graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar Highschool and still tend to go back to the school to help students better and understand and learn to love math the way that I do.

I am very comfortable and experienced working with children. My mother has been running her home daycare service since before I can remember. Due to this I found myself as a huge help to the business by assisting the school aged kids with homework each day.

I am excited for us to get to know one another and to lend a hand to someone who needs help!

I am an experienced one-on-one tutor and teacher of American History and Law/Legal History. What I uniquely provide my students is a "passion for rich context"...my background is in history, philosophy, literature, politics and law (I am a licensed environmental attorney by profession). For example, when we cover the period of the early American republic (1783-1800), we won't just memorize names and dates, but we will understand the richness of the age of 1780s Philadelphia and Boston, Pennsylvania and Virginia, the growers, merchants. Puritans and Quakers, their religions and philosophies and private and social/political interests, what led to the Whiskey Rebellion and the Alien and Sedition Acts, what the newly independent Americans wanted from their government, how they rebelled against the imposition of new restraints, and how 1800 re
presented a second revolution. All the great periods of American History will similarly come alive in a fun, engaging, and therefore memorable way for you!
