In addition to teaching music, I have also worked as a special education assistant and wrestling/track coach at Lake Zurich Middle School South and an assistant Kung Fu/Tai Chi instructor at Green Mountain Arts in Logan Square, Chicago, Illinois. Jazz piano, Voice, and Composition are my main areas of expertise. However, I have also been recording, and playing guitar almost my entire life. I fully believe in music education not only for entertainment and personal enjoyment, but for many other means.
Beyond its capacity for being used as entertainment, music aids in learning, helps develop advanced motor skills, increases memory function, and many other purposes for a well rounded education. Lesson plans vary from person to person. I always make it a point to get to know the student's existing musical knowledge, goals, and background before I create a personalized lesson plan. All important concepts are covered as they are needed so students can understand theoretical concepts based upon actual application and usage. In short, I teach in a way that students can "dig in" right away and play, create, improvise, sing and/or compose freely and naturally. I always encourage students or parents to contact me with their goals, previous musical training, etc., and discuss what they really want out of lessons so they can get the most out of taking me on as an instructor.

Daniel adapted throughout the course of the hour-long lesson to understand what I already knew and find appropriate ways to fill in the gaps of my knowledge. He also started me on the process of learning a new approach when looking at and learning to play new music pieces.

About Farobag
Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Devel
opment Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

I've been playing a few instruments for 23 years, and finally decided to get into violin. Farobag made me realize that I know next to nothing about the violin, and there is so much to learn. I played only a few notes in my first lesson, but his instruction was worth every penny. I am very excited for the next lesson and look forward to learning everything I can from Farobag. Highly recommended.

Mr. Cooper is an experienced teacher. He teaches piano, violin & vocal from basic to advance level. My son has been taking piano classes from him for the past 3+ years. He loves to go to Mr. Cooper's classes. The foremost quality in Mr. Cooper is that he seeks perfection and tries to imbibe the same in his students. He encourages all his students to perform their best and is extremely patient in dealing with his students. Mr. Cooper lets me sit in my son's lessons and I got my 101 on classical music with these sessons. I can appreciate what my son plays and also now able to appreciate classical music in general.
Mr. Cooper encourages all his students to participate in IMA annual contests and puts a lot of effort in preparing his students for the same.

I graduated from college in Virginia with a Bachelor of Music Education degree as a voice major, and minored in piano and violin. My teaching certificate was for vocal, instrumental and general music, grades K - 12, and I graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Graduate school brought me to Indiana, where I earned a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance. Migrating up to the Chicago area from there, I taught at a private music school (voice and small ensembles, as well as many faculty performances) before staying at home to raise our children, and teaching voice lessons privately in my Studio. After 30 years of teaching, I'm still at it, and I still love it!

I am a Permanent Professional member of Music Teacher's National Association (MTNA), a National Certified Teacher of Music with the Illinois State Music Teacher's Associ
ation (ISMTA), a member of the West Suburban Chapter of ISMTA, as well as a member of National Association of Teachers of Singing. Most of my students are high school aged, but I have taught from ages seven through 70. My students regularly achieve MTNA's Music Achievement Award, are selected for District Choir and All-State Choir, as well as receive leading roles in high school and community musicals.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that singing does something to words which nothing else can--it puts feelings to music. Everyone has feelings, and everyone can be musical. Those who pursue their vocal education can be rewarded with confidence in their ability to sing. The goal of my Studio is to promote the study of music, and to create a musical environment at each lesson so that every person's individual potential can become realized - all while having fun!

My Studio provides a nurturing environment for all singers, from beginning to advanced, children to adults. I will help you develop and maintain your vocal health, expand your vocal range, and develop your musicianship. You will learn to integrate a coordinated process of breath, pitch and tone, while exploring your vocal potential in a wide range of contemporary and classic musical styles. Teaching proper vocal technique is my primary goal with every student: fixing what is being used incorrectly, and enhancing what is already done well. I will work with you on any style of repertoire you desire: classical, opera, Broadway, jazz, folk, etc. I love it when a student wants a variety of song! And if your music theory skills are weak, we'll take care of that, too!

LESSONS

Children eighth grade and younger should sign up for half hour lessons; students high school and older should sign up for 45 minute lessons.

I am so excited to share the joy of making music with my new TakeLessons students! We get right into breathing, first thing. Once that is right, we can turn our attention to what's going on with the throat and mouth. All the while, we are learning songs by which we can practice whatever we're working on in the exercises. Everybody's different, with different tensions, both proper and antagonistic. We isolate the muscular tensions that are interfering with your perfect sound, and go from there!

*** Lesson Details ***
Come prepared to make a lot of noises with which you don't normally sing! We will explore every sound you are capable of - there's something to learn from most of them! Obviously, we'll concentrate on the ones we really want to sing with, while using a myriad of vocal exercises.

My studio brochure will explain many of the nuts and bolts of our lessons, and any expectations regarding practicing, keyboard ability and access, and how we work home practice when you don't know how to play piano. Generally, we spend about half the lesson time on warm ups/exercises, and half the time on songs. Sometimes we memorize them; sometimes we polish them; sometimes we just learn them quickly and move on to new things. Each lesson is a little different, depending on what I'm hearing from you that day.

I'm always happy to help you with school/church solos, audition material, choral parts, etc. Otherwise, we will choose repertoire together, taking into account your goals and interests, along with what makes good teaching material. Come join the fun and make some music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My basement rec room serves as my teaching studio, so there are stairs with which to contend. Parents may stay either in the studio, or up in my living room to wait. The fully equipped studio contains a piano, audio-visual equipment for recording and play back, music stands, stools, a comfortable couch, and even a sink for quick water drinks! (Singing can make you thirsty!)

In my 30+ years of teaching private lessons, I've amassed quite a toolbox of eclectic musical resources. That said, I still find muscle manipulative exercises while vocalizing to be the quickest route for most students to have success in building their long term voice. So I utilize those techniques frequently. With proper, healthy vocal production, a student can sing in any genre they choose. I am very concerned about producing a healthy voice with a free tone, particularly for children, so that all students can go forward into whatever style they choose with good vocal production.

Mrs. Rosenwinkel was one of the best music instructors I've ever had, and hands down the best vocal coach. She incorporated just the right balance of vocal exercises and performance songs into our lessons so that I could strengthen my voice and broaden my range while keeping the lessons very engaging and enjoyable for me. She was always very encouraging and I learned so much from her. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a voice teacher.

Originally born in Germany, Chrissy developed a passion for music, language and teaching early on. Right out of High School she helped her mother, who was an educator at that time, write and stage-manage a children's Musical which found great response from the audience. During her Music studies in the Netherlands she was offered an internship at the local Music School which she gratefully accepted and where she enjoyed her first voice coaching experience. There she was also nominated as one of the most promising young singer/songwriters at the LUX Festival in Nijmegen. Over the years she was blessed with more and more private students in voice as well as piano. During her stay in New York she received the opportunity to work with a Broadway show ensemble ("Dreamgirls") as a Music Director on their different harmonic parts. She's proudly b

About Daniel
Daniel, a former faculty member of Columbia College in Chicago, is a studio and live performance singer and musician based in Chicago. His teaching and performing experience spans three decades, and includes expertise in the studies of voice, guitar, piano, bass, drums, and trumpet, along with music theory, arranging, and composing. He is a Lincoln Academy Student Laureate who holds a BA in Music Composition, and has attended graduate courses in education at Roosevelt University and DePaul University in Chicago. He has taught students of all ages at private studios, public school, and college.

Daniel is described by his students as a natural teacher. He prefers to be regarded as an advancing student, and takes the journey along with his students to guide them towards their goals with a friendly, positive, efficient and productive appro
ach. He feels that music is within all of us, and a desire to learn is a sign of talent, so anyone can develop their musical abilities with methodical practice.

The musical journey for Daniel began at an early age with trumpet and piano studies which became a passion for him by the age of 14. He was the drum major of the high school marching band, and successfully completed a paid contract to arrange music for the high school jazz band which performed in a state beauty pageant. He began teaching privately after high school, and continued playing in bands, and composing original music. He formed a professional jazz ensemble under the name of the Chicago Jazz Players by the age of 22, and developed his arranging techniques while having it performed by an eighteen piece orchestra consisting of many great local artists. It was in this environment that he gained experience with brass, woodwinds, and rhythm instruments. He was granted a position at Columbia College as an instructor at age 29 where he taught theory, sight singing, musicianship, ear training, harmony, orchestration, and composition. He scored the music for several plays, and conducted his own pieces with Chicago Symphony and Lyric Opera Players. During those years he found himself playing the guitar and singing more than anything else. It was in 1995 that he focused on singing and playing the guitar with his rock band. He has produced several CD recordings of his original music in his own studio, and has helped produce local bands and artists. He performs regularly in the Chicago area.

*** Lesson Details ***
Daniel exhibits patience and care with each student, and develops an individualized approach based on clear goals with practical procedures. Most beginners can expect to have a working knowledge of music notation and how it applies to their instrument within three months, and should be developing fluency in performing music that they enjoy within six months. Advancing students will enjoy the rewards that will follow by studying with an experienced teaching musician that will recognize strengths and weaknesses, and recommend proven techniques for personal musical development. Studying music should be fun, fulfilling, and in harmony with the needs and desires of the student, and this is key to the philosophy held by Daniel.

Lessons are designed to better the performances and techniques of a singer, dancer, or actor.
Techniques such as breathing, diction, pitch, tone, posture, rhythm, smoothness, and stage presence will be practiced. I do my best to develop lessons that are tailored to each student based on their individual needs. Lessons start simply with gentle vocal exercises based on humming and open vowel sounds. Each student can expect to be challenged through exciting a stimulating exercises. I also teach techniques to improve posture, poise and vocal performance. I enjoy using simple scales to improve pitch and volume while also working on clarifying the students voice. A students performance, whether they aspire to be a performer, teacher, or just enjoy performing should have a positive self portrait of themselves. We will work on building confidence so we as performers can take pride in ourselves and what we represent. My students are expected to practice outside of the lesson. I also encourage them to keep a practice journal of when and how long they have practiced. It helps the students to trouble shoot areas of their performance and take the opportunity to ask questions during the next lesson.

I work from a loft apartment, consisting of an area next to computer with a home recording studio area for music and keyboard. There is also seating for parents if they desire to attend lessons.

I was very lucky to have found Kelly. I had always dreamed of having artistic talent but I am not a naturally good singer. Within two years, I have gone from singing in the shower to having developed to stage performance. Kelly has taught me so much from the artistic expression of singing to the mechanics of turning my voice into an instrument. She has an incredible ability to listen to my voice and pinpoint the exact adjustment I need to make it sound great. She's such a fun person to be around that I always look forward to my next lesson. Her positive attitude and approach is also a testament to her high level of professionalism. She provides feedback that is positive. but also helps me improve She is the perfect combination of teacher and coach and I would highly recommend her for anyone interested in singing.

Kelly has been my 15 year old son's acting instructor for the past three years. My approach is designed to train and condition the entire body as an instrument, not just the oral portion of the voice. My 5-octave vocal range allows me to easily instruct my students in developing their whistle register (see special pricing for whistle training). I have been trained in (and teach) Classical, Appoggio, jazz/improv, Seth Riggs' speech-level singing and other methodologies of singing and speaking.

Not only am I a coach, I’m a professional singer and public speaker, so I utilize and perfect my own techniques on a regular basis. I have the privilege of being a classically-trained pianist and vocalist, having studied at Sherwood Conservatory of Music, Vandercook College of Music, The Second City, University of Chicago, ETA Performing Arts Center and many other fine institutions.

Children love working with me because I make learning fun and they have a high retention rate of the techniques that I teach them. *** Lesson Details ***
Each lesson is tailor-made to suit the student's individual needs. Custom action plan will be given to each student on a case-by-case basis. No instruments are used in my lessons, as I train the voice to be a standalone instrument. However, if you would like to accompany yourself with a guitar, piano or percussion instrument, you are very welcome to do so.

I am available 24 hours a day for online coaching and as early as 6:00 am CST for in-person sessions.

*Please note that 15-minute sessions are ONLY available online. In-person sessions must be a minimum of 30 minutes. 31 and 61-minute sessions are ONLY for whistle register training.

When choosing online lessons, please make sure that your system is functioning properly, that you know how to use the platform, that you have a good internet connection and that you are logged in on time, as no concessions will be made for time used due to technical difficulties.

Timing Disclaimer:
Our time together is very valuable. If you are not on time for your session, the missed portion will not be made up at the end of the session. If I am not on time, I will make up the missed portion at the end of the session or alternate agreed-upon time. No exceptions or make-up sessions will be made for illness, weather, transportation issues (including car trouble), or any other short-notice reason. Rescheduled lessons must be made a minimum of 48 hours in advance and must be made up within the calendar week of the original lesson. If it is not made up within that week, it will still count as a paid session and cannot be made up at a later time.

About Miriam-Rose
Hello! My name is Miriam-Rose, and I have been teaching violin/fiddle to students of all levels and ages for over six years. I was trained classically in the Suzuki method from a very young age, and also have a significant background in traditional music, specifically Scottish fiddle. During my time at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, I created my own degree with a focus on Scottish music, and also became the third place winner of the 2012 National Scottish Fiddle Championship.

In addition to my background in music, I have a degree in Ballet Performance from the Jacobs School of Music. I have been teaching ballet since 2010, and have taught and danced professionally here in the Chicago area since 2013.

Very good at explaining concepts in a second, or sometimes third, way so that her student can make an inner connection. I also admire the way she organizes her lessons so we refresh and enhance the previous session and then move on to new technique. I took a five-session Beginning Voice Acting class with Corliss in a professional recording studio. The critiques she gave me after every recording I made helped me to speak more clearly, and to increase the energy I was able to put into my recorded presentations. Without the critiques of my recordings, I would not have been able to improve my speaking ability. During the class, she made sure everyone in the class was made to feel welcome, and important. When I take the next level of the Voice Acting class series, I will be looking forward her critiques of my recorded presentations.

My passion is teaching acting!

My mission is to help actors learn and grow, especially those who weren't given lots of help. I myself had few financial advantages, and little help or encouragement from my family. I am not particularly good looking nor was I not able to attend one of the prestigious universities or acting schools.

However, At the age of 20, I began making my living as an actress and as a singer.I am now a long time member of AEA and SAG/AFTRA.

My success came from hard work, determination, and talent. My drive to work as an actress never included fame, I simply wanted to act anywhere and anytime.
I struggled for many years to find a teacher or a method that would help me develop my talent and finally found one in Michael Shurtleff, author of the book, Audition. I worked with Michael for two years and became
his assistant. He inspired me to become a teacher, and I stopped acting because it no longer was as exciting to me as teaching and directing.

Now I teach workshops all over the country, do lots of skype and facetime coaching, and guest teach at universities. My dream of reaching lots of actors has come true and for that I am grateful.

In July 2017 I attended Jane's Fresh Faces for Film group session and from the moment she began the class I was taken aback by the depth and realism she brings to the art of acting. I knew I had come across an incredibly important person in my life; akin to the handful of teacher's in my youth that left an indelible mark on me.
