Writing is one of the most important skills you can have in our current society. My personal instruction includes, critical thinking skills in writing, philosophy, structure and form. Students will learn by evaluating many different levels of text. They will then progress to developing their own techniques and expanding their current vocabulary.
In addition to teaching music, I have also worked as a special education assistant and wrestling/track coach at Lake Zurich Middle School South and an assistant Kung Fu/Tai Chi instructor at Green Mountain Arts in Logan Square, Chicago, Illinois. Jazz piano, Voice, and Composition are my main areas of expertise. However, I have also been recording, and playing guitar almost my entire life. I fully believe in music education not only for entertainment and personal enjoyment, but for many other means. Beyond its capacity for being used as entertainment, music aids in learning, helps develop advanced motor skills, increases memory function, and many other purposes for a well rounded education. It is my goal to help educate the next generation in traditional music practices as well as incorporate new techniques that are relevant to our
current day and age.
*** Lesson Details *** Lesson plans vary from person to person. I always make it a point to get to know the student's existing musical knowledge, goals, and background before I create a personalized lesson plan. All important concepts are covered as they are needed so students can understand theoretical concepts based upon actual application and usage. In short, I teach in a way that students can "dig in" right away and play, create, improvise, sing and/or compose freely and naturally. I always encourage students or parents to contact me with their goals, previous musical training, etc., and discuss what they really want out of lessons so they can get the most out of taking me on as an instructor.

Daniel cancelled my son's first lesson with less than a one hour notice. He attended the second lesson, but again cancelled the third lesson with a 30 minute notice. He sent me a text message to notify me and I called him back and left a voicemail. 24 hours later and I still haven't gotten a call back. I want my money back. He has wasted my son's time. Poor professionalism.

Daniel adapted throughout the course of the hour-long lesson to understand what I already knew and find appropriate ways to fill in the gaps of my knowledge. He also started me on the process of learning a new approach when looking at and learning to play new music pieces.
Repetition, repetition, repetition. The more you write, the better you get at it.
I give my kids example prompts- we review them. For homework, I have them do a writing on their own and we make corrections together.
A bit of information about myself: I have been tutoring for over ten years and am very familiar with the public and private school systems in Manhattan. I teach everything from Algebra II to American History, specializing in organizational and study skills.
I am a Columbia University graduate. Graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a 3.97 GPA. I currently tutor and also run a music education non-profit called Nvak.
I am meticulous, patient, and caring. I invest 100% of my energy in making sure that the kids that I take on are getting the individualized attention they need and that they are becoming more independent and more confident each session.

Tamar is a wonderful, dynamic and enthousiastic teacher and my 12 year old daughter had a great time with her.
Tamar knows when to slow down if her student is tired, but is also demanding so as to be sure that progress are made.
It was a pleasure seeing how fast my daughter improved her English and we both appreciated meeting Tamar, who is a great person :)
Tom has been teaching private lessons since 2006 and is currently available to teach lessons online. Foremost, Tom provides expertise, experience, and encouragement when he received his English Literature from Boston University, Arizona State University and the University of Phoenix in Arizona.
Tom's style is candid and are scheduled to best fit to the student's schedule when possible.

I have taught many subjects to all ages for decades. My primary focus at present is English. Although I love teaching English in general, whether reading comprehension, grammar, or general verbal skills, my ultimate passion is writing. Expressing oneself in writing can be very cathartic, and I find that I enjoy helping students find their voice, their perspective and various ways of expressing themselves through the written word. Adam Gaines is a godsend. I was really lucky to have his guidance over the years which helped my craft and dedication to the art of writing greatly. He is a proven writer with legitimate credits but also, he actually cares. He is always ready to help and takes your material seriously which is most important when you want honest feedback and guidance. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of films, screenwriting, and the industry that is both impressive and beneficial. I love writing and learning different languages. Writing has been something that helps me de-stress and challenges me to always articulate my thoughts clearly. I have helped high school students on essay assignments, creative writing, and on college essays that eventually helped a couple of them get into their dream schools. Hi there! I am majoring in mathematical and computational biology at Harvey Mudd College. I love studying the sciences because it's exciting to learn how things work and to logic things out. I love working with others - I have been tutoring students (ranging from elementary school to high school) on various school subjects for about 6 years now.
Music is another huge part of my life: I have been playing the piano for 14 years and the violin for 8 years now. I am currently a violinist in the Pomona College Orchestra.
