I remember preparing for college and feeling so stressed about taking the SATs. Sure, there’s a study book but it’s huge and can be so overwhelming. Some schools offer SAT prep classes, but for me, I have always done better with one-on-one attention. In being your SAT tutor, I hope to make this process less overwhelming. I will teach you test-taking techniques, what kind of questions to expect, and essay prep.

I'm an experienced math teacher of 5 years and I love helping others to discover the excitement and beauty of math! I believe that everyone has the ability to do math, and I work to tailor my lessons to each student's unique way of thinking. Most of my teaching experience has been with students who do not naturally gravitate towards mathematical thinking. I enjoy finding ways to translate math concepts into various forms so that students can understand them more easily. Sometimes that means drawing a picture or using a metaphor - I keep exploring with my students until we have found the solution together. My goal is to give my students confidence and tools to be able to master math on their own.

About Clare

I have a background in both math and teaching, with a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and masters degree in education. I've worked in education, data analysis, and teaching, but I most enjoy working one-on-one with students through tutoring. I work to help students realize how much they

(Genesis C.) Yesterday was my last tutoring session with Clare for this school year. Geometry has become something that I've found to be fascinating as a result of my tutoring sessions with her! She is sweet, patient, supportive, and has really helped me, especially with theorems. I look forward to possibly seeing her again in August or September!

My daughter really enjoyed her lesson and said it she learned more in that 45 mins with Clare than she has all year with her teacher at school. Would HIGHLY recommend Clare to anyone needing some help.

I just started nursing school at UCLA and had failed my first midterm. Dr. Z was really supportive and taught me how to study. He really knew how to teach the material. After tutoring with him on a daily basis, my grade went up to an A on the final, and I received an A- in the class ! Whoo!!!. This tutor is excellent in every way and I highly recommend him!

I have been a professional writer for approximately 24 years and have taught English and Creative Writing for most of that time. I have 5 published works to my credit. I have found that one of the primary difficulties that students have when working on a project, regardless of their age, is actually finishing it. Therefore, when I tutor a student we work through the experience of taking a project from first idea, to polishing and proofing, to completion. Along the way, students encounter everything from proper rules of English usage, spelling, sentence structure and syntax, to writing expressively and creatively, to research and legal crediting of sources. Each lesson is structured to the individual student's age, knowledge, and desires for their future in writing -whether it be just for fun or for publication.

My educational background consists of both university and music conservatory. As a musician, I have sung and played my various instruments since a very young child. Music is meant to be shared and I have over 30 years of teaching and performance experience. As a writer, I have been a published

"Relaxed but perceptive and capable

Having read Christopher's bio, I sensed that there was something special about him, and that he was the right one for our son who has some learning challenges, particularly in the area of Math. I believe it is very important a tutor connects not only on an academic level but also where there can be some light hearted conversation. Christopher arrived punctually for our first meeting and his assessment of our son. In advance of that meeting I had explained to Christopher what the challenges are and what our collective objectives are. As soon as I saw him, he appeared to relaxed but confident. After an initial introduction, I stepped away to let Christopher and our son become acquainted and he immediately set about establishing some common ground which happened to be a particular sport. No more than Christopher, our son is also very perceptive and despite the fact that he initially resisted the idea of any tutor, his words after this first meeting were "I can work with him"! Its obviously early days yet, but so far so good!"
