About Michelle
VOCAL COACH
Rehabilitating and strengthening voices are two of my top specialties, and each lesson will have specific exercises tailored to helping you transform your voice into the highest and best version of your instrument. I work with singers signed to labels as well as the indie artist just starting to find his/her voice, style, and signature sound. My coaching approach incorporates some of the newest technologies that have shown extraordinary results in breaking down the inner blocks of each artist. It is a tremendously joyful and fulfilling experience to watch as my students really let their instrument shine brightly, boldly, and with an aboslutely stunning groundedness as they discover how powerful they truly are.

MUSICIAN/SONGWRITER/PERFORMER

Poised, energized, and armed with unforgettable performance ability, Michelle G
. is a firework in the artistic arena. Her training began at the young age of 3 with the violin, and a few years later received classes for piano and voice. Excelling in all three, Michelle developed a very passionate and dramatic personality that eventually led her to more dramatic genres such as opera and stage acting. Her aptitude to understand human emotions and relationships gives her a wide spectrum to play in as an actress. There is an organic flow to her interpretations both as an actress and musician that leads the audience to feel her emotional current. Her honest characterizations introduce deeper perspectives on what seems like the ordinary roles and storylines. Amongst the many other leads that she has played, her participation in roles like “Susanna” in The Marriage of Figaro, or “Donna Elvira” in Don Giovanni embody much vibrancy and integrity.
Through the development of her voice as a singer and actress, she has crossed over into other media such as voice over commercial work and vocals for pop/main stream music productions. She has recently participated as a vocalist and violinist in the albums of artists such as international jazz pop artist David Longoria, Latin pop singer Erick Bolivar, Grammy-nominated percussionist Souhail Kaspar, and American Idol’s Seysha. Over the last few years she has unraveled her musical skills as a songwriter/composer/arranger and has even had some small victories acquiring music placements on TV shows (NCIS, short film “Sumtin’ Like Dat”, The Dictator) for herself and some of her colleagues. Her singing can also be heard on the hit tv show "Jane The Virgin", "Castle" and "Shameless" amongst others.

Education
Michelle completed her Associates of Arts for Music/Music Education at the age of 18, and got later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami with a Bachelor's of Arts for Musical Theater and Music Business, as well as from Florida International University with a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance.

I tailor my lessons to my student's needs, style, abilities, and goals. Learning is truly a fun and passionate adventure for me, and my enthusiasm has consistently been a contagious quality :) I love to challenge myself & my students to discover how immense their true potential is, and I create a safe and fun environment to explore such facets.

My curriculum is combination of solid tradition (Suzuki method for piano & violin, and Bel Canto technique for singing) interwoven with pop-culture, and modern influences. Within the first 3-6 months, my students will know the basic building blocks of music - which includes scales, arpeggios, triads, intervals, technique, and performance repertoire; and for my singers this will include proper breath technique, tone placement, support, very often increased vocal range (both high and low), and will feel significantly stronger vocally and more confident getting up to sing.

About Patrick
The Vocal Artist

A rare 'natural' tenor, Patrick's range and versatility are evidenced throughout his work. From Bach Cantatas to Broadway tunes, he's even dared to sing Denver, bringing audiences to tears with his own rendition of Annie's Song. He is a torch song tenor, a la Rondstadt's 'Round Midnight but with the power and passion of Pavarotti.

Like most classically-trained tenors, Patrick can list many of the master works among his repertoire. Starting with Michigan Opera Theatre's Opera-in-Residence program, he performed in Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus and The Mikado and others. In Detroit & Windsor Ontario, he performed Bach, Schubert, Handel, Dubois, Mozart and Dvorak. While Patrick's early career focused on classical sacred performances, his real passion is to re-create traditional music in new ways. He recorded his
first two albums with composer Yves Vincent of San Diego, California in genre-stretching new-age/classical style.

After relocating to Tucson, Arizona, as music director for his church, he encouraged a variety of styles and genres to be used by the musicians and choirs of each of five weekend Masses.
Later, in Illinois, he directed another 60 voice parish choir that frequently performed with orchestras from Illinois State & Wesleyan Universities. His voice students in all these locations have been encouraged to explore and develop their own unique expression of their favorite music, while building on a solid foundation of technique, vocal strength and musicianship.

Now that Patrick has relocated one more time to Los Angeles, CA, he is working on a 3rd and 4th CD and once again accepting students. He enjoys the opportunity to expose young & older talent to the power and passion of classical music while also helping them create ways to make it new and exciting by reinterpreting it with their own favorite genres.

Lessons

Patrick's passion for teaching comes from his philosophy of music:
"Music is humanity's most evolved form of expression and communication. Music includes language, our physical senses, and our sense of meaning. With music, ordinary language is ultimately transcended. Words communicate from mind to mind; music communicates to the depth of the soul."

Patrick teaches and encourages young beginners as well as coaching and challenging seasoned professionals. He has even taught a hearing-impaired student to use physical sensation rather than sound to sing on pitch! He focuses on fundamentals of breath, technique and strength to help singers take care of their irreplaceable instrument. (Patrick's own vocal coach, Edward Kingins, continues to perform and move audiences in Detroit well in to his 70s!) Along with helping students build a strong foundation, he nurtures a love and commitment to music by working with students in the style and genre they enjoy most, from rock to pop, jazz or country.

Patrick also has unique insight into the entertainment industry, both in Los Angeles and across the country. Over the years, he has been associated with and close friends with musicians and actors such as John Denver and Richard Hatch as well as sought-after speakers Tom Crum and W Mitchell. Since locating to L.A., he has worked in independent movies with Damian Chapa and David Carradine as an actor and production assistant and coordinator. This experience, coupled with his own success on stage and as a recording artist helps him guide and advise serious young talent to maneuver the crazy environment of Hollywood and avoid the scams and pitfalls of the entertainment industry.

Beginning Lesson Outline

My Basic lesson outline is to determine where we are starting with each student and custom make lessons designed to fit the needs for that student. We will also work on meditation and visualization techniques for performance. The idea is for you to feel the words and sing with passion or so your audience believes your song.

Unlike other instruments, your voice cannot be replaced if it is damaged. I take the time needed through each step of the process so your voice is strengthened and developed properly. It is up to the student to practice and apply what is learned and build a trained, strong instrument that will be useable for your whole life.

You will learn:

Proper breathing techniques and practice.
Properly warming up the voice.
Working on music theory (reading music, etc.)
Ear training and pitch.
Expression, phrasing and performing.
Applying techniques learned to music suitable for student's capabilities.
Learning to have fun and enjoy the music experience.
Confidence and self-esteem

Depending on student's progress, specific lesson components above will be emphasized so that the student's goals will be achieved.
My goal is to prepare you to the best of my ability for you to achieve your dreams.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Keyboard & Recording Studio

*** Travel Equipment ***
CDs, recorded lessons, vocalization practice material. Student should have a CD/tape player. Keyboard is helpful, but not required.

Awesome!

I needed to practice a solo for my Easter Vigil Psalm performance, and he helped me take care of my instrument, taught me great exercises, and gave me good advice about my career. He is a very nice instructor. He will help you grow as a singer and performer, and you always learn something new everyday with him...I highly recommend him to everyone because he really knows music theory.

"From your mouth to Patrick's ear*...

I was looking for an experienced and patient teacher, one who really listens, and am lucky enough to be able to work with Patrick. He not only hears the singing, but has the flexibility and talent to adapt to the needs and concerns of the singer. Highly recommended. *"From your mouth to G*d's ear," is a Jewish expression meaning, "May what you just said be true!"

Wes is obviously extremely passionate about what he does. I've been through a few lessons with him so far, and am verrrry much enjoying them. He makes you feel perfectly comfortable, and in the past weeks that I've been training with him, I've been improving more quickly and steadily than I ever have before. He can tell exactly what I'm struggling with and teaches me memorable techniques to help me improve trouble spots (while helping me explore new vocal avenues I haven't really touched yet). He offers very real feedback without a hint of BS. I highly recommend him as a teacher. :)

I am an amateur fighter experienced in Historic European Martial Arts (HEMA), SCA, Kendo, MMA, Krav Maga, Aikido and others. I have been a student of martial arts for over a decade.

Longsword students can expect to improve week to week in their technique. While the historical documents teach a tradition, every student has a unique style; I teach students the foundations and allow them to find what works best for them in order to unlock their own individual style. I can help any student to fight with freedom, confidence, and expression.

I teach sword combat primarily geared to introductory experience levels for all different ages. I can teach students to fight historically and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to combine different traditions for purposes of competitions, or both depending on the goals and preference of the studen
t.

I am passionate about swordplay and I love to mentor students who want to become effective, dynamic fighters.

My personal passion is a hybridized system (similar to what MMA has done to traditional martial arts) but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better fighter!

About Valeka
Affectionately known as “V” critically acclaimed artist Valeka is a graduate of the prestigious University of Washington’s Professional Actor Training Program (PATP). While obtaining her MFA in Acting, Valeka began her professional career with roles in many award-winning shorts and independent features including "Attachments," and "So Many Options" among others.

Adept in theater, film, acting, coaching, writing, and producing, Valeka is an artist with some serious promise. She stars as Eileen in the film "The Runaways," working with award winning cinematographer, Mike Wilson. In addition to being a Jet Beauty of the Week, Valeka is the current DC Co-Captain of Ava Duverney’s distribution company ARRAY. Additionally, her documentary film “Non-Critical” premiered at Cannes in the Short Film Documentary Corner, and it received the 2015 J
ury Award.

Previous credits include a host of theater roles, notably the role of Nina in acclaimed playwright Dominique Morisseau's "Sunset Baby." Broadway world stated "Playing the role of Nina is Valeka who is astonishing. I predict a great future is ahead of her. One gets to see her transformation from the hardened criminal to that of a young woman who has just lost her mother, when she strips herself from her make-up, wig, and clothes into a bathrobe, sits on her couch, covers herself in a wrap which was covering the couch and weeps. It's a powerful moment." DC Metro Arts stated "Valeka walks the trickiest line when it comes to winning our sympathy as Nina. But she will reduce you to a puddle in one scene when she comes upon a photo of herself as a toddler with her father, and suddenly all the pain of her childhood is reeled back and her face blossoms with a shy, girlish delight." Maryland Theatre guide states “Valeka is one of the most relaxed and unselfconscious actors I’ve seen on stage - ever... She is sensual and powerful – a performance to remember.”

Finding an Acting Coach in Los Angeles is a daunting and overwhelming process. For me, I set out to find someone who's approach resonated with me as well as pushed and challenged me, helping me deepen my craft and boost my self-confidence. I needed to find a coach with whom I could form a relationship, who could provide an environment where I felt comfortable to receive feedback, to allow myself to be vulnerable and to take risks. I wanted a coach who could facilitate growth and help take my career to the next level. And, of course, I wanted to find someone who is qualified and knows what they are doing. Valeka was recommended through a fellow actor, and it was the best referral ever! Her knowledge is incredible and she is always willing to help. Since working with Valeka, I have been constantly going on auditions and FINALLY getting called back. I can't recommend Valeka enough, and if my word is not enough, reach out to her. You won't be sorry!
