I like to teach in a fun and comfortable environment. Learning should be exciting, not boring. I am a very patient and understanding individual, so no matter the student's level, I always find a way to work the subject matter around their needs.

I am a certified (ESL) English as Second Language Teacher. I have experience teaching/tutoring children and adults. My teaching style includes both traditional and non-traditional methods(like singing songs and playing catch). There is nothing more rewarding than the look on a student's face when they "get it". Learning a new language can be exciting, yet challenging for students of all ages. Getting assistance can take the complexity out of the equation and make your experience more enjoyable. I specialize in Business English, accent reduction, and teaching English idioms (expressions).

Currently, I tutor students from different countries, including Colombia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Korea, and Peru to help them in college and business. In Peru and Mexico, I taught ESL full-time to adults, college students, and high school students. The classes ranged from basic English where the students had little to no English experience to advanced business conversation among nearly fluent ESL speakers.
All of my students, meaning a perfect 100%, have improved their grades by at least one letter grade, if not more, and passed every one of their tests and exams. I help ALL my clients reach their goals!
A couple years ago, I returned to San Diego after living in Peru for several years where I taught English as a second language. My students ranged from adult business people and academicians to primary and secondary school students. I really needed to utilize different teaching methods depending on each student’s needs. Some students wanted more business-related conversation, so I had to be able to teach business principles in marketing, communication,
The feedback I often received from my Peruvian students, as well as my students in Mexico and the U.S., was that I made learning an enjoyable experience—they wanted to work harder to advance quickly in their classes. All of my students agree that I have a lot of patience and turn even the most challenging lessons into ones of positivity and encouragement. I provide critical feedback in the most constructive of ways that help the students reach conclusions on their own. I enjoy being there to support and guide their experience!
Before I left for Peru, I worked at St Vincent de Paul Village (part of Father Joe's Villages) in downtown San Diego. There I focused on Health Education. I built the Villages' first Health Education department and helped start its innovative Health & Wellness program. As part of these two programs, I taught homeless and low-income adults with and without learning disabilities, as well as children from preschoolers to high school students. Teaching such a wide variety of students how to improve their health while living in sometimes precarious situations without much income or stability pushed me to think creatively and come up with memorable ways to engage the students and help them apply what they had learned in their daily routine.
In high school, I took all AP and college prep classes. I went to a liberal arts college in Virginia where I focused on social studies and biology. I spent a few years training business people in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, InDesign, as well as presentation techniques. In grad school, I specialized in applied anthropology and public health. During that time, I tutored students in web design. In between, I've worked in Communications and Training in international health and development, so I have a lot of experience to bring to teaching.
Basically, I love teaching. I'm enthusiastic yet patient, and I absolutely adore helping kids and adults alike learn. It's such a sense of accomplishment when my students show off their terrific grades. I see the same look in my students’ eyes regardless of age—that pride that shines from within, that exuberant smile, like they can conquer anything. I want my students to keep that pride for a long, long time.
Right now, I'm writing two textbooks to be used in my Spanish classes. I've also written several academic articles published online. I love traveling, cats, and learning!

I have a teaching experience of ESL of more than 24 years in Cuba. I have taught in colleges, for students with different academic interests, and for graduates who wanted to improve their proficiency in this language. I have also trained teachers of ESL at the language school where I worked.
In my teaching I use a communicative approach with meaningful exchanges but with a solid foundation of the formal aspects of the language too, so that students can move forward safely. I pay attention to individual differences so that each student can progress at his/her own pace with ease.
At intermediate and advanced levels I always favor the use of meaningful discussions and debate about updated issues, so that students learn how to express their opinions and ideas properly in different contexts.
I believe in creating a friendly atmosphere with meaningful human exchanges throughout my lessons.
I have worked mainly with adults in colleges and language schools. At the university level I worked with students from different professional interests, so I am familiar with teaching the language for specific academic skills. I have also tutored individual adults.

Hi and welcome to my profile!
If you are new to US, and need to improve your English for work or studies, we can work on grammar at your level, expand your vocabulary and work on conversational skills. I'm taking beginner to intermediate students. Step by step assistance with learning English is required when you are a beginner. From my experience of learning a foreign language, grammar of the language is usually best explained by a non-native speaker, who went through all the steps himself are and knows all the obstacles a learner can meet on the way of acquiring a new language.
If you are considering to learn Russian, I must say, you are a brave and adventurous person. It is a rather complicated language and you might have one of few purposes which will define the best method there to teach you:
1. If you plan to travel to St. Petersburg or Moscow, and need to pick up conversational Russian, we can certainly do that in needed period of time. We can practice dialogues, train comprehension skills, even work on your accent, if you wish!
2. If you have a business in Russia or any post-soviet countries and need Russian for negotiations, document translation purposes, simply for comprehension, we can build up the needed vocabulary and you are good to go!

I have a TESOL Certificate from Columbia University and am currently a Columbia University TESOL Masters student. I have taught ESL in the Community Language Program at Columbia University as well as teach privately.
As an ESL instructor, I pride myself on my patience and understanding for the student's learning style. Prior to our first lesson, the student will take a Memletics Style Questionnaire, which is an assessment that tells the student, as well as myself, what kind of learner he or she is. This allows me to customize the student's lessons to be as effective as possible.
Lessons focus on a blend of grammar focus, as well as communicative language, and everyday language. This allows the student to gain a real understanding of the English language that can be used when interacting with native English speakers.
The student will explain what their goal is for learning English, as the lessons will cater towards the student's goals.
My name is Mina and I am a current TESOL Masters student at Columbia University. I also have a TESOL Certificate from Columbia University, and teach at the Community Language Program at Columbia University.
I have taught ESL to students of all ages privately since 2017, with a focus on teaching adults. I also speak fluent German, and have a broad understanding of romance languages.
I teach students based on their learning styles, and customize lessons based on students' goals. The lessons blend grammar techniques with conversational techniques, in order to prepare the student for everyday conversation interaction. Lessons are interactive, in order to ensure effective acquisition of English as a second language.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message!
I look forward to working with you.

When I moved from Russia to US in 2011, my English was at beginner’s level and I desperately needed to start speaking this language as soon as pos
I tried to take some ESL classes at local colleges and also study with a tutor but it did not work very well. Instead I became more afraid of making mistakes or saying something not correctly. I was frustrated and started to think that I am just not made for learning new languages.
I heard about Roman from my colleague who did intensive French language program designed and taught by mr. Nam. So he told me that Roman also teaches ESL. I decided to give it a try.
After three months of classes with Roman my English improved so much! From the beginning of classes I started to feel so motivated and everything was explained in really simple way. I don’t really understand how Roman was doing this but every class and even every homework was so interesting and so fun to do. I loved to hear myself speak English better and better. I started to use my english in any situation and I felt so confident.
Now, after four years living in US my English is much better but i know that the most important step in my progress was the program I did with Roman and I am very thankful for all his help."
