Laura is a wonderful voice instructor! You can tell that she is very knowledgeable about music and voice overall. She makes my lessons very fun, but also informative at the same time. They are not just technical lessons about how to sing. Laura incorporates different teaching styles to accommodate her students' way of learning, and also works with you on the style of music you prefer. The only thing I hope for more of out of my lessons is to have more time singing, but I am a beginner and Laura makes sure you strengthen your foundations first in order to support your voice!

As a working singer/songwriter/guitarist, Jeff is known for his memorable melodies, intelligently crafted lyrics and heartfelt vocals. His compositions have earned him over 50 awards from various national and international songwriting contests and he's a former staff songwriter for the long-standing New York City-based publisher, Bourne Music. He has also won best music video awards at 3 international film festivals.

Some of the artists that Jeff has been compared to as a guitarist and vocalist include Keb' Mo', James Taylor, Kenny Loggins, Ry Cooder, John Mayer, Bill Withers, Jim Croce, and Don Henley.

Jeff is a NJ native, but lived and performed in Los Angeles for many years, where he worked in the studio or shared the stage with well-known artists such as Dave Koz, Norman Brown, John Daversa, Hiroshima, Little Richard and N'Dea Davenport.

Jeff catalog of over 450 songs and compositions spans virtually every genre, but many of his tunes are amalgams of pop, blues, jazz, R&B, country and rock. Quite a number of Jeff's songs
have appeared in film and TV. One that Jeff is particularly proud of, is the dynamic pop ballad, "Journey Of The Heart" (co-written by Jeanne Smith), which was licensed by the N.C.A.A. (National
Collegiate Athletic Association), who deemed it "the official anthem" of their NCAA Hall Of Champions facility in Indianapolis.

Jeff has commercially released 4 CD's of his original material: The most recent of these is his 2013 release, "Blujanova" (a merging of blues, jazz and bossa nova), which was praised by platinum selling and Grammy-nominated jazz star, Dave Koz: "Jeff's voice is so clean and pure...the production is lovely...warm and inviting...I love the interesting and surprising takes on some classics too, especially 'I Feel Good'…that brought a smile to my face!".
The other CD's stretch into other genres. "Truthteller" (bluesy pop/rock and singer/songwriter material) "Me, Myself, and I" (acoustic) and "The Spin" (pop, rock, and country-tinged singer/songwriter material). All of Jeff's albums are on his label, Relevant Records. The late great John Braheny, author of the best-selling "The Craft And Business Of Songwriting (Writer's Digest Books), gave high praise to Jeff's CD, "The Spin", calling it "honest, crafty, melodic and the songs are all exceptional". Patch called Jeff "a consummate songwriter".

*** Lesson Details ***
At the first lesson, I will ask you to tell me what songs you want to play and artists you want to play like and I will set the table for that by providing the chords you'll need, chord and scales and exercises to enable you to play them and guidelines and tricks on how to make it happen as quickly as possible. I know a wide variety of songs in all styles and styles, including current hit songs as well as pop, rock, blues, jazz, country songs. if you have a song or artist that I don't know already, I will learn it (often on the spot) and if not right then, at the next lesson. I have taught my students to play songs by artists as varied as Taylor Swift, U2, Jason Mraz, Adele, Eric Clapton, Django Reinhardt, Doc Watson. And that's just naming a few.

I always make it clear to my students at the first lesson: "There is no such thing as a stupid question". I want you to feel comfortable to stop me at any time to clarify what I am teaching you, ESPECIALLY if it is too difficult or vague. I pride myself on always being organized for your lesson and making sure that you grasp whatever it is I am teaching you. The goal is to get you to be able to play what you want as quickly as possible. This will take practice and dedication on your part, but I will do everything in my power to help you get there.

I never force anything on any of my students. but I feel it would be beneficial for you to learn to read music OR read tablature and chord diagrams. You tell me which one and we'll go in that direction. If you'd like to read music, then we can decide on a book for you. I have used Hal Leonard instructional books (with CD's! this way you can play with a backing track and get a sense of rhythm, which is very important), but I'm open to other method books you might have or like.

After 3 to 6 months, you will feel you are significantly more skilled on the guitar than you were before we started lessons. You will know more chords (and move from chord to chord), be able to do at least some basic fingerpicking and be able to read some music or tablature.

I have been coaching in this subject for over 16 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. Lessons focus on vocal production technique (enunciation, breathing, projection, inflection, etc.), stage presence, and interpretation. These areas are usually worked on using texts provided by the student. Additional material may be used as needed. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• the studio space is also inhabited by two lovely cats. Do consider this when signing up for lessons.

So far, I look forward to each lesson! Troy is very kind, yet very helpful and has helped me target on my personal goals with opera while also learning more each time! I highly recommend him. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in voice or only experience in voice ( as my experience is theatre and musical theatre), he is patient in helping you achieve the goals set. A bit about me:
I am a working Chicago actress originally from Indianapolis, IN. I graduated from Ball State University with a B.A. in Acting. For three years I lived in Los Angeles pursuing opportunities in film and television. I am a member of SAG/AFTRA and with the help of my agents and manager, I worked on many t.v. shows including Numbers, Commander and Chief and McBride (starring John Larroquette). After realizing how much I missed being on stage, I moved to New York City. I spent two years performing off Broadway before finally landing i

Very helpful

I needed help with projecting and emoting with my voice for a reality TV shoot. Natalie was very helpful in teaching techniques to connect my breath and voice, relax and eliminate tension, and thoroughly warm up. These were very helpful. While acting is a magnificent art, it is also a labyrinth of techniques and ideologies. Throughout time there have been many disagreements about the best way to approach the teaching of acting, but I believe that no matter which way you enter the maze, we are all moving towards the same goal; that is to live truthfully in imaginary circumstances. Kyle is currently a Professor of Theatre, with a specialty in Acting (Musical and Non-Musical Theatre) and Playing Shakespeare at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, FL. Prior to his current appointment, Kyle spent three years as the Director of Theatre at a private high school in Memphis, TN, where he also served on the board of the Tennessee Theatre Association. I've worked with children, high school/college students, professional actors, educators, broadcasters, singers, dancers, executives, students with special needs, senior citizens, immigrants, ESL students, and refugees. A teacher since 1999 and a professional performer since 1989, I draw on a wide range of experiences and techniques to create individualized student plans. I employ Lessac, Berry, Linklater, and Skinner voice and body work in addition to my own teaching methods. I am based in the beautiful mountains of Southwestern Virginia. She explains everything in great detail without any stress. Very nice and she really is invested in what you want to learn She knows her stuff and knows exactly what and how to help to make you more confident in any audition, or just more skilled in what you want to learn! Fantastic teacher!

I primarily address vocal dysphoria as experienced by the trans community. Those struggling to regain their speaking voice after traumatic injury or major hormonal shift often find the voice they produce is not the voice they know they can produce. Lessons include vocal techniques to lessen stress on your vocal chords, advisement on where within your voice to speak, adaptions to current habits to enhance the longevity of the voice you find yourself in, and a shoulder to cry on whenever you need one.

About JESSICA
Having spent my entire (short) life in choirs, music classes, and private lessons, I learned one thing to enforce above all else: it’s okay to be wrong. You’ll hit wrong notes, your fingers will slip, you’ll need to work on posture. And that’s okay. I was privately trained in the Belle Canto style for 10 years, but to this day I forget to breathe properly. It’s not the end of anything. It’s rarely even the end of the song.

I’ve coached professional and amateur singers for 3 years, coached diction and pronunciation for 4, and worked for a local opera company for the past 4 years as well. If it’s something you choose to do, I’m prepared to instruct proper technique as applied to a multitude of languages.
