I am a professional actress/ singer/ songwriter and directer. I employ my many years of experience as a performing artist, to help my students develop what is unique and compelling with in them. I believe that everyone has something of value to express. The key is finding creative ways to unleash it.

About Amy
I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical voice training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting, I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I received a B.A. For comparative literature and creative writing at the State University of New York at Purchase and have recently completed my Master's degree in social work at Walden University.
I believe, within all of us, Is the ability to express something distinctive and original. I work to help students discover their unique voice, whether it be through singing, acting, or writing. I share with my students an array of tools to gain the ability
and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges students may face when pursuing a life in the creative and performing arts, having worked professionally in those areas for most of my adult life. I believe it is the teacher's job to respect each student's individual process of learning.
My students have gone on to become recording artists, Broadway performers, movie actors, Blues and cabaret artists, and published writers.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises.
Acting
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

*** Studio Equipment ***
home- 10 minutes away from Manhattan with piano, seating for parents
-practice studio seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a piano, cd/mp3 player and an large library of songbooks to work from. The student should bring sheet music of songs they want to work on and a recording device.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching how to sing rock, pop, musical theater, jazz, cabaret, and blues without hurting the voice as well as method acting instruction.

A very good first lesson. We went over breathing exercises and scales. Also had time for Amy to critique my speaking style through a portion of a speech I will be giving in a month. Time well-spent.

She briefly went over the next lesson plan and gave me a little homework to do as well.

I got a lot out of this lesson and I can see how this will help me accomplish my goal of being a better public speaker and having a more controlled and stronger voice.

Looking forward to future lessons.

I believe, wholeheartedly, that with the right teaching and encouragement, anyone can learn to become an actor. Both children and adult beginners will have a great time playing acting "games", (i.e. exercises) that encourage creativity and freedom of artistic expression.

About Heather M.
More important than my conservatory education and my experience as an educator and a performer is my passion for teaching music and acting and my undying belief that anyone can learn to be a musician and an actor.

I'm currently available to teach lessons in my own St. Augustine home studio and online around the globe.

I'm a cum laude graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and a winner of its merit scholarship. I studied classical music there, grateful to have been taught by the likes of tenor Thomas Faracco, and renowned voice scientist and pedagogue, Dr. Scott McCoy.

After performing with the New York and Royal Philharmonics, the New Jersey and Virginia Symphonies, the American Boy Choir and the internationally renowned opera star, Andrea Bocelli, studying opera and piano at Westminster Choir College a
nd performance art and improvisational acting at East Carolina University in North Carolina, and appearing in shows and pageants across the east coast, I found my life's work in 2003 when I began teaching music.

I've taught hundreds of different students since 2003 with great success, from 5-year-olds with special needs to middle-aged professional opera singers, from a professor in Saudi Arabia to a 65-year-old doctor of music, from kids of Radio Disney to students of the famed Actors Studio in New York, from busy stay-at-home parents to retirees with bucket lists, from CEOs to touring singer-songwriters.

I've created and led a workshop about singing called, "The Whole Body Singer". I've written dozens of articles about music and music education for the blog at TakeLessons.com.

My extensive knowledge of the voice has encouraged and empowered hundreds of singers and prepared many of them to win competitions, pageants and auditions, as well as roles in operas and musicals, including lead roles in Limelight Theater and Curtis Camp productions. When a student comes to me in need of voice coaching, my job is to get to the root of mental blocks, to reveal why and how she's not singing at her optimum.

Before I received formal training at a conservatory, I learned piano on my own, and both have prepared me to teach almost anyone, with any experience, how to play.

The intensive training and education that I received at Westminster Choir College in songwriting, music theory and sight reading has benefited my students at every level.

My current work as singer and keyboardist in the acoustic folk rock duo, Timberwood, has strengthened my knowledge of a broad range of styles and genres. As a lifelong learner, I have a strong commitment to continuing my education. That's why I studied songwriting online with the Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2014.

In the lessons that I teach, I'm flexible, positive and encouraging. While I want my students to have fun and love music, not dread it, I expect hard work and persistence. I am caring, patient, nurturing, and compassionate.
In piano lessons, I usually allow the student to choose a piece with which to warm up and then move on to technique and repertoire.
In voice lessons, I usually warm up the singer and discuss technique and sight singing before focusing on song choices. Joan Frey Boytim wrote a book for voice that I like to use, and I like the Estelle Liebling exercises for the more advanced singer. Hanon exercises are a big part of my piano curriculum, and I enjoy the Bastien and Alfred books for young and old. I have used completely random songs pulled out of a piano bench and a karaoke CD for kids. I will use almost anything I can get my hands on if it means effectively teaching music.

Acting lessons consist of exercises and games that apply learned concepts, with an emphasis on stage acting and Meisner technique, as well as monologue and audition coaching.

Currently, I have only online availability for guitar students.
Students under the age of twelve will use the Alfred Guitar Book for Kids. All other students will start with the Hal Leonard Guitar Method.

Parents, siblings and spouses are always welcome to observe lessons quietly.

About Mia
I am a professional singer and actress with opera and musical theater credits. Singing is my passion! I love to sing, and I LOVE to teach others to sing! The human voice is the most natural instrument of all, and helping others to bring out the beauty of the natural instrument that lies within them is something to which I am very devoted. I like to make students feel comfortable and at ease in lessons, and you will find that I am very warm and friendly!

Every student is unique, with their own strengths, their own areas for improvement, and their own preference for certain styles of singing. I can help you find what style makes your heart sing!

I have a broad range of credits, including the Broadway National Tour of Fiddler On The Roof with Theodore Bikel (Tzeitel understudy), and Off-Broadway in Fiorello (Marie) and The Rose Ta
ttoo (Flora). Among my many regional credits are Oliver at the Chiswick Park Theater in Sudbury, MA (Nancy), Camelot with Noel Harrison at the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, MA (Nimue/Guinevere understudy), and Is There Life After High School with Desi Arnaz, Jr. and Sharon Lawrence at the Burt Reynolds Theater in Jupiter, FL. I currently hold the post of Soloist at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Needham, and am a Guest Soloist for The Mother Church in Boston. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where I had four amazing years working with the head of the Music Theatre program, the brilliant and innovative director, Worth Gardner, and music director, Oscar Kosarin. I have received additional training with many renowned pedagogues, including American actress and theatre director, Suzanne Shepherd, New York City, lyric soprano, Sari Gruber, mezzo-soprano Sondra Kelly, and coaches Arlene Shrut from the Juilliard School, Michelle Alexander with Boston Lyric Opera, conductor Gary Wedow, as well as Roger Malouf with the Metropolitan Opera.

She is amazing as a teacher and a singer. I was looking for formal training to advance in my singing and understand what I am doing wrong. And Mia have helped me so much in just 3 classes. As a singer I felt stuck and wanted to advance my skills and I was very doubtful of teachers but I can say with confidence Mia is the perfect teacher for me. She makes it so comfortable for me to explore my voice and range. So far everything she has taught me has helped me realize my mistakes that were holding me back from singing at my best. She is also very accommodating in terms of class schedule. I always look forward to my class with her.

Teaching came to me through the recommendations of my own acting teachers. When I followed their advice I found that I could really connect and communicate with my students with the same clarity and communication that I had with other actors. I found that I could really assess and convey to them what they needed to really crystallize both their experience and delivery of a given character and/ or scene, and in such a way that they REALLY enjoy the process! Together we take them on a journey of enhanced self-discovery and delivery. My lifetime in the performing arts, close to 20 years of professional acting (on both coasts), years of intensive study with some of the true greats (Gary Austin, Dave Razowsky, Barbara Niven, Terry Schreiber, Wenndy Mackenzie, Jeffrey Sweet, Carol Fox Prescott, and others), and experience directing, casting, and producing in Los Angeles all inform the process we engage. I'm proud to say that many of my students have exclaimed that my class was the best, or ...

About Rob
*PLEASE NOTE: I am currently away a lot, so most sessions will be online. HOWEVER, when signing up check with me re our locations at the time and perhaps we can schedule an in-person session. ALSO, I LOVE to travel to locations to teach private tutorials or group workshops and would love to do so! So, let me know if that's something you'd like to coordinate.

I've been so blessed to have had game-changing acting teachers who really "got," affirmed, challenged, invigorated, and transformed me. They've helped me in so many ways in my career and life overall. I want you to have that, too! I LOVE THE PROCESS - AND YOU WILL, TOO! There is as much joy and discovery to be had in every acting moment as there is technical prowess to be honed, and in order to make the whole thing synergize both have to be involved and engaged. The truth is that
you, as you are, have a great deal of it already covered, but you just may not know what you know and what you have. Discovering that is joyful and empowering, and the rest is a combination of learning how to perfect and wield what you already know and learning the tools and techinques you don't yet know. Then it's a matter of repeating and honing that with someone who you can trust; a teacher who really gets you, your type(s), your joy, your own unique colors and qualities.

You also need a teacher and coach who knows the particulars and requirements the industry has and will expect of you. I've worked on the east coast, in Los Angeles, and other places around the country, on stage and on the big and small screens. I performed for years on the world renowned Groundlings stage under the direction of The Groundlings' founder Gary Austin, in his Improv Troupes. He literally gestated the original SNL yet openly referred to our group as "the best group of improvisational actors I've ever worked with in my entire career!" I still can't get over that one and probably never will. I also studied with Dave Razowsky, Michael Gellman, Jeffrey Sweet, Carol Fox Prescott, Wenndy Mackenzie, Terry Schreiber, Barbara Niven, John Strawbridge, and others. I found myself on many a stage out there while acting in films, etc., as well. Along the way I've also directed, produced, and cast feature films and shows, and of course taught. SO, let's get you on the track to real learning and growth. Also, as I put together other workshops and conferences with other teacher associates of mine - expert, renown actors and teachers from New York, Hollywood, and elsewhere - I'll keep you posted so you can not just go to but live in the next level. I look forward to it.

**NOTE: I'm now bi-coastal, dividing my time primarily between Los Angeles, CA and Baltimore, MD, but am also often in NYC and DC. So, wherever you are, if we're in geographical proximity to each other when you need a session, we'll meet up in person; and if not, no worries, we'll work together online right here in the online classroom! We'll just play it by ear. (I will also travel to any city where there are enough students interested in taking a class and offer an intensive workshop, and possibly also private coaching if time allows. We'll work out the details and pricing for those on a case-by-case basis, but please don't hesitate to contact me about such an event if you're interested in one. I'm happy to do these kinds of classes!)

Each Lesson will consist of a check-in on your goals in relation to acting. Feel free to bring in scenes, or monologues you are wanting to work, or we can look for other material as well. Work highly focuses on character circumstances, and developing a journey.

About Shelley
I'm a professional singer/teacher residing in New York City with degrees from Indiana State University, and New York University with a specialization in Classical Art Song, Musical Theatre Repertoire, and Vocal Pedagogy.

Every lesson is about YOU. So each week we will take a look at your goals for the lesson, whether you are preparing for college auditions, school talents shows, a desire to work with music theory, or piano skills, this is your opportunity to explore. Everything is possible.

As a professional singer myself, I am constantly auditioning on broadway, off-broadway, and for smaller local and regional theater opportunities. I believe that as a teacher I have to continue to be in the field and learning as the industry continues to change. I have to be aware of the opportunities in this business. I have been hired by pr
ofessional opera and musical theatre companies, in additional to large choral works as a soloist, and have a private studio in Washington Heights.

Prior to NYC I taught middle school choir for 200+ students, of which I received teacher of the year in 2012. I also still hold a valid teaching license in the state of Indiana and currently applying toward my NYS teaching certification.

Within my voice studio I teach in person and online lessons. While online lessons can be beneficial for students wishing to study with me that are not in the immediate vicinity, I recommend in person lessons

I look forward to hearing your beautiful voice and helping you to embrace music!

Shelley is by far the best voice teacher I have ever had. Within the short duration of time that I have worked with her, I have noticed that my voice has significantly changed (it feels and sounds better) after using her techniques. She knows what she’s talking about and offers substantial and specific criticism. She individualizes every student, in that she chooses repertoire that benefits a particular voice instead of assuming that every student has the same voice and strengths/weaknesses. This is a very important skill for a voice teacher to have. Shelley is also very good at time management within a lesson. Most importantly, she makes the experience fun! I would highly recommend Shelley to anyone who is looking for a voice teacher! Thank you Shelley!

Experience: I have directed and stage managed plays and musicals, have had previous experience teaching acting classes, and have been a camp counselor for youth acting camps.

I promise we will have a fun time while working hard!

About Jace
I am a working actor and musician in the LA area. I graduated from Azusa Pacific University with my BFA in acting for the stage and screen. My background is in musical theater and stage acting. I recently have started film acting the last couple of years and have been in short films since.

I have been teaching for five years now. I want my students to feel comfortable with whatever material we work on. We will work on everything from character analysis, to scene study, to knowing yourself and your brand and feeling confident as an actor.

I am very passionate about what I do and love to help mentor those who seek to become better in their craft. I am very excited to meet you and work with you!

My daughter took lessons from her a while back. She was simply wonderful. My daughter could not stop talking about how much fun she had working with Jace. She knows lots about who to go to for headshots and how to build a resume as well. I’m so grateful she was able to help my daughter pursue what she loves.

Having graduated in rigorous BFA acting for stage and screen program , and working in Los Angeles as an actor Jace has a wealth of knowledge about acting as well as the film industry. With her being a working actor she offered me so much insight about what you need to do for an audition as well as how to tweak my monologue to give it more layers. She goes with you step by step and makes you feel confident and safe. She works with you at your level and she made me feel confident going into my audition and self tapes. Seriously, she is so great!
