I am a professional opera singer and have studied diction and languages for 12 years. I have a special musican’s ear for the subtleties of language and a lot of tools to help you reduce your accent and speak English like it’s your first language! As someone who is often performing in other languages myself, I am personally acquainted with the challenges of mastering pronunciation and accents and I am excited about sharing what I’ve learned in my own journey with others!
I am a professional opera singer with a love for languages. I graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with a Bachelors in Voice, and went on to study opera performance at the Opera Institute at Boston Universities. Since then, I've been working as a singer for over 10 years!
I have to sing in a lot of languages for my job, and I'm here to give you some of the tools I use when mastering pronunciation for your own accent reduction pursuits.
I am also a writer and lover of the English language (my mother is a lifelong English teacher), and love sharing this tough-to-master language with others.
A lot of the skills I have as a singer are so helpful for learning how to pronounce languages correctly AND how to support your voice to keep it healthy.
I can also help you in your own singing development and improvement! I can teach you
basic and advanced technical exercises to increase your breath support, tone quality, and overall musicianship.
My lesson went great! Alexandra understood the concept that she should adapt to me. She provides excellent, clear answers and offered additional helpful information with the whole process of learning. I'm thrilled that she customizes my needs accordingly.
Also she has a great personality.
My background as a singer and speaking voice expert has allowed me to help many not native English speakers gain confidence! I also work with regional accents to help "neutralize" . Bet you can't tell I'm from Chicago: I got rid of MY OWN accent through vowel work!
I’ve had the chance to learn from some of the greatest, and I am STILL learning from ‘em!
I think anyone can and should sing. Why? Simple. Singing is FUN . Singing is FREEING. You’ve got a voice- why not use it, and as often as possible? Your voice is unique and capable of soooo many cool things- just let me show you! Anxious? Shy? You're in very good hands. I have anxiety myself, and know just how to put you at ease.
I’m different than most voice teachers. I don’t make you practice. If you’re happy, I’m happy! If that means you want a lesson of all vocal exercises, cool! If you want to work on Puccini one lesson and Judas Priest the next.....niice! Why not? The more genres you try the more you’ll love music- and yes, you CAN sing as many styles as you want no matter what you’ve been told. I will never have you sing anything
you are not 100% stoked to sing- promise!
Maybe you don’t like your speaking voice and want that to be stronger for either professional or personal reasons. I do that, too. I can help you with confidence in basic conversations and accent reduction. Maybe you want singing lessons just ‘cause, and don’t ever want to sing in public because that terrifies you. I totally get it. And I say do it!
Acting? Music theory? These are also things I love to teach, especially newbies. I love helping beginner performers get confident in selecting material that shows THEM off- comic and dramatic.
Online voice lessons are my jam. These are especially convenient for those that are pressed for time or maybe a little shy or anxious.
I am the teacher for those that don’t want someone too …well….teacher-y. I want you to laugh as you learn, and love love love the results you’ll get . I understand what what it's REALLY about- expression and fun, not judgement . Vocal exploration that's 100% customized . Join me!

I trained for three years in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and can help you learn a system for training your own ear to hear accents, regionalisms, dialects and then feel, in your physical body, how to make shifts in how you speak and thereby how you sound. The work is not just academic, but physical, experiential and straightforward. It is enjoyable and empowering and something you will be able to easily practice on your own and apply in the day to day for quick results. I look forward to working with you!
I hold an MFA in Acting from the California Institute of the Arts and have been teaching professionally for over ten years. I teach Acting and Auditiong to young actors (10-18 years) and I also teach Public Speaking, Voice/Speech and Accent Reduction to those looking to find more ease and power when using their voice in front of others. I have taught, directed and coached young actors who have gone on to work professionally in Film, TV and Theater and my students have been accepted to renowned conservatories and universities across the country (NYU Tisch, California Institute of the Arts, AMDA and others). I am a passionate teacher who believes in the individual and in unlocking the creative genius, the impulses, the imagination and the unique forms of expression within each of my students. In my sessions, I encourage my students to
“play” and to discover how to both lean in and tap in to what is there and then develop relaxation, ease and focus on the task at hand - a monologue, an audition, a speech or working with a text. In addition to teaching and coaching actors, I have worked extensively in the corporate worlds in areas of Voice, Speech and Presentation as a coach and have taught group classes on Public Speaking and Presentation. I have taught and coached students from China, Russia, Taiwan, Italy, Japan in addition to the U.S. Throughout the ten plus years that I have been teaching, I have helped both actors and non-actors, those in the professional business world, gain tools that lead to freedom and ease of expression when speaking in front of others, be it at an audition, an interview, giving a presentation to a board or speaking in front of thousands at a Ted Talk.
Claire is a professional. She is a natural born teacher who immediately clicked with my son. She gave him the tools he needed for an upcoming audition at a theatre conservatory. Anyone from beginner to dedicated professional would benefit from private lessons with her. We feel very lucky we found her with so many less qualified people out there.
With my background as an actor and singer, I'll improve your speech habits so you can speak eloquently and be taken seriously. Accent reduction private lessons can be taken to improve English, French, German, and Italian.

Find your English accent without losing your uniqueness! I help students acquire a clear and expressive American English accent. If typical approaches to English pronunciation don't work for you, I can help. My approach is physical as opposed to learning by hearing and imitating sounds. I have worked with seasoned professionals as well as newly arrived immigrants just beginning to learn English. My students often have a strong command of the language, but are concerned that they aren't being fully heard and understood. You will find a pleasant and supportive studio where I create an individualized plan tailored to your goals and needs. You already have a good voice--you can build on that and enhance your American English in your professional and social life.
If conventional approaches to improving your speaking voice aren't working for you, I can help. A teacher since 1999, I draw on a wide range of experiences and techniques. I can work with you to create an easy, enjoyable plan.I've worked with children, high school/college students, professional actors, educators, broadcasters, singers, dancers, executives, students with special needs, senior citizens, immigrants, ESL students, and refugees. I employ Lessac, Berry, Linklater, and Skinner voice and body work in addition to my own teaching methods. I am based in the beautiful mountains of Southwestern Virginia. I'm happy to answer your questions and help you grow in vocal power, skill, and confidence!
Jennifer has identified several ways that I use my voice inefficiently (my description - she is much kinder in her choice of words). My homework is concrete and substantive enough so that I can experience a different way of speaking. One example is what to do with my tongue when I say specific words. I think this could make a real difference for me.

I enjoyed my conversation with Jennifer. She taught me some useful exercises that help to cope with my stress. Look forward to the next lessons with Jennifer. Thank you!

Where do you want to
be in a few short months? Do you want more successful communication, to feel more confident conducting a business meeting, lecturing to students, speaking to customers, or communicating with patients, to be able to joyfully converse without worrying if your accent is detracting from your message... and to save time by speeding up your results through personal, individualized instruction with a program tailored specifically to your individual speech patterns?
Here's your path: 1) You'll begin by taking an accent assessment, so I can listen to your speech/accent and determine what sounds are different than the sounds in American English and structure an individualized program for you. 2) We then work together for 13 weeks, for one hour sessions per week. All sessions will include practice work so that you can be well on your way to achieving an accent that is closer to American English. 3) Your practice work is all online for you - you'll have an online practice portal that you keep for the rest of your life to return back to and refresh as much as you'd like.
I am passionate about accent reduction because I want my clients to be able to succeed in the paths they choose in life, uncover their most promising futures, and discover what their lives can be.

Jacqui is an excellent speech therapist and instructor. I learned so much from each lesson she gave me. I can't thank her enough for the confidence she gave me in my speech, as public speaking is critical for my new career. Not to mention, her outgoing personality made the experience fun. Thank you!

I was worried about using an online service for accent reduction but with my schedule I didn’t have another option. After working with Jacqui, I only wish I acted sooner. Jacqui was flexible with her availability and the results speak for themselves. My clients and I can now focus on the task at hand. No more “What? Could you repeat that?”!
"Erol is a great teacher He understood my weakness, the points to ameliorate very quick: his technical of learning is very efficient (I'm only at my 3rd
session). Since he has an European background as well he knows exactly the difference of pronunciation between French (that I am) and US pronunciation. He is also very devoted and patient, I recommend him no matter your background !"
"He seems to have a lot of experience in helping students reduce their accent. Unlike some instructors I've had in the past, he will ensure that the studen
t's pronunciation is truly accurate before moving on to the next word. Moreover, his schedule is pretty flexible and he will provide a full length lesson even if the lesson starts late."
"Steve is the man you need if you need to improve your English, my experience with Steve make me a better English speaker Thanks to Takelessons for introd

"I’m very satisfied with Nicole’s observations on my pronunciation on words that needed corrections such as phonetic sounds ."
"Erol was one of my best instructors by far! He is very knowledgeable and approachable, and he wakes up at 530 every morning to teach me. This shows his de
termination to teach and his attitude to teaching well enough."
