I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. I've been teaching private vocal instruction since 2003: I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, a unique and supportive venue for singer's to become more comfortable performing before an audience. I also instruct workshops for vocal technique and performance. For 10 years I was the lead singer for The Red Apples, an acoustic/electric roots band that performed an eclectic mix of rock, swing, blues, country and jazz. Within the past year I have re-energized my theater and cabaret career, appearing at Davenport's Cabaret, in a new solo show, as well as productions at Big Noise Theater and Stage 773. I've also completed tw
o short films and started working on my own web series, about my life as a singer/voice teacher. I also have an art song project consisting of original material with composer Jaroslaw Golembiowski. As a singer and actress I have performed with many major theaters in the Chicago area, including Court Theater, Victory Gardens, National Jewish Theater, Bailiwick Theater, and Prop Theater.
*** Lesson Details *** As a classically trained singer I will instruct you in all aspects of singing technique, from breath control and support to improving your tone, range, flexibility and resonance. I have recently completed training in Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri Method, which has enriched my understanding of the mechanics and health of the voice, as well as applications of technique to CCM or contemporary musical styles of singing. My familiarity with a variety of musical styles from pop/rock, R&B, and country, to musical theater, lounge and jazz makes me an ideal teacher for those interested in contemporary styles.
I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, (Linklater, Alexander Technique, Grotowski) to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good-natured humor."
*** Studio Equipment *** My studio space is fully equipped with a piano, P.A. system with microphones, CD, MP3 player for tracks, and ability to record lessons if the student desires.
*** Travel Equipment *** Please have a piano (in tune!) or keyboard for use in your in home lessons.
*** Specialties *** I am classically trained, but I am very adept at teaching music in a wide variety of styles, including most contemporary styles of music including pop/rock, roots, swing, jazz and blues, country, r&b, and of course musical theater and cabaret. My band performs an eclectic mix of originals and covers in the roots rock genre, and I write music as well. I have many years of experience in the theater as an actress, and I coach acting technique and performance. I coach singer/songwriters, and all types of singers, of all ages. I have a workshop that specializes in helping people learn to perform better in front of an audience, and I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, which is a supportive opportunity to perform regularly! I also coach bands, to improve their vocals, harmonies, etc.
I couldn’t recommend Wendy enough. No matter what walk of life you come from, she’ll find a way to connect with you and help you reach your goal. I’m already seeing improvements and can’t wait to go back every week.

Very helpful and focused on what needed to be worked on. Will definitely be looking forward to working with her again!
The most important attributes of any teacher are empathy and patience.
I currently attend Harvard University and work as a professional writer and tutor. I've lived all over the United States, although I grew up in Scotland of all places. My scores on the SAT and ACT were perfect (1600 and 36 respectively), though I too had to work hard to get there, so I know what it's like when you're just starting out.
Over the years, I've worked with students suffering from ADD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, speech disorders, and depression; I personally grew up inured to social anxiety, so I can always empathize.
Some tutors will tell you that they know all the tricks and shortcuts. But really, there are no tricks. No shortcuts. Just hard work and sleepless nights and talking to yourself while brushing your teeth in the morning
I have a decade of experience and a vast collection of study materials that I can share with you for free. I've had the privilege to help hundreds of students with everything from college applications and essays to Creative Writing and Calculus, not to mention the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, ASVAB, and AP and SAT II subject tests, like Literature, Statistics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as well.
I absolutely love writing, of course, so I can teach you how to write an action scene or listen to a poem.
Simeon has been an absolutely invaluable resource for my SAT prep. His encouragement is appropriately supplemented by challenging material and (appropriately) challenging expectations. He manages to make studying for the SAT fun rather than a laborious task and I could not recommend him more.

My daughter's score increased by 130. Thanks SImeon!

Simon has somehow inspired my granddaughter to work really hard to prepare for her SATs. She is finding studying fun again, but more importantly, she is once again more confident about her intelligence and her ability to learn. His style and quirky humor is a perfect match for my granddaughter.
My passions lie in computer programming, philosophy, and world history. Knowledge in these three areas are sure to elevate the human experience. I look forward to all challenges in life because I believe one must struggle and be tested in order to achieve substantial growth.
My full-time job is as a Software Developer building web applications and maintaining databases for school districts.
I specialize in realism or realistic pencil drawing. I also draw with pen, which does not allow for mistakes to occur. I start with a blank sheet of paper that eventually develops into a finished piece of art that usually takes about 8 hours of straight drawing. I have won many art awards. I began drawing just like you from a private teacher although it was from a gallery owner for 8 years. I eventually attended Otis Art & Design in Los Angeles where I was told I drew like a senior within my first month in college. I am currently producing art pieces to enter into art galleries and sell prints online.
Since 2016, I've been teaching math to high school and elementary students. I've always loved it. With teaching, I feel that I've grown more patient and more thoughtful in my general life. I recommend that anyone with the means try their hand at teaching. It is a particularly rewarding thing in and of itself.
The summer of 2016, I wrote the music, conducted, and acted as musical director for a full-scale musical entitled Get Hooked: A Pirate Musical. Currently, I'm working on a second full-length project, entitled Nuclear Love, that is set to be produced and performed in the spring of 2020.
I also have experience doing rock and jazz gigs on my electric bass. If you or student is also interested in learning these styles, I'd be more than happy to oblige!
My favorite books are Zen and the Art of Motorc
ycle Maintenance, The Giver, Ishmael, 1984, The Chess Garden, Invisible Man, Labyrinths, and Life of Pi.
My favorite quote is "infinity and beyond." Granted, there is no such thing as 'beyond' - unless you're referring to the power set of infinity. Honestly, I just love infinity. I could talk about the infinite hotel and fractals forever (pun noted and kept).
I've been taking French classes for about 5 years now. If you're interested in having a charming conversation in slightly broken French, je suis ton mec!
There are a few things more inspiring to than helping a student triumphantly arrive at a solution. Or watching them nail a big shift that was giving them trouble the week before. Learning anything comes with struggle, with difficulty, and I've certainly had my share of practice frustration. It's important to understand that such an experience is part of the process. I have no doubt that with the right ethic, the right teacher, and a desire to learn, anything can be achieved.
I am Dr. Faith Speaks, affectionately called Dr. Faith and I have enjoyed being a Psychologist and Educator for many years. I have a Ph.D. in Counseling and Human Development, a Master of Sciece in Educational Psychology and Appraisal and a Bachelor of Arts in English, Liberal Arts. I've taught and counseled ages 3 through 90. I LOVE helping people help themselves and believe life can be everything you want it to be with the right tools. My greatest work is to teach you how to use the tools you need to live a life of joy and success. I enjoy people, the "Fine and Performing" Arts, and learning to play different instruments. The piano and drums were instruments I played, even though I no longer play, I still love listening and seeing people who can do creative things on these instruments. I love sports, water aerobics, the b
each, traveling, teaching, counseling and coaching individuals to live their dreams. I've won college teaching awards for "Teacher of the Year", and I spend alot of time working with all ages, in varied communities, creating exciting learning experiences to help people become their BEST selves. I also love learning from my students and together we make really GOOD things happen! I'm excited about working with you so let's get started!

Who hated writing papers? Raise your if you cringe at the thought of “word count”. Writing can be intimidating if you don’t know how to tap into your style.
I understand how writing can be considered as “boring” but that’s because you didn’t have me to teach you!
Writing is more than just words on a paper, it’s a way of life. It is the way that we have chosen to navigate in this day and age. Communication is the biggest part of our society! It’s how we build relationships.
How many times have you said “I’m not sure what I’m trying to say?” Aren’t you tried of being unsure? Book me and allow me to show you how to tap into yourself, so that you can receive everything that is purposed for you.
If it’s not WRITE, then it must be wrong! My purpose is to help you write and to become a better communicator through words and ideas.
"My lessons with Laurel have been fantastic! She's very patient & knows exactly how to make everything make sense & how to break things down in order give
proper analysis in whatever she teaches from piano to singing to basic music theory. She was able to answer any questions I had in full detail. She's a very warm & welcoming person that loves to teach & can do so very well. I highly recommend her as an instructor. She is with out a doubt, a genius of her craft."
"My son had one session so far and thought Daniel was very personable and knowledgeable. He really helped him understand and feel comfortable solving trigo

"I learned both the Religious Studies and Bible Studies subjects from Austin. I am so grateful for how patient, clear, and kind he is to his students. Espe

"Jessie helped me make sense of Algebra. She is friendly and patient."
"I probably learned more algebra in 4 months with Ms.Julissa than I did in my whole high school career. She helped me prepare to retake the placement test
at my college. My scores raised dramatically and I was moved up two math levels. Where was she when I was in high school?! She loves her students and she is passionate in making sure the goal that you have set for the tutoring is achieved."

"Larry is an incredible teacher. I was never bored at any lessons, Larry had me thinking hard every lesson, challenging the way I looked at history. I feel
like not only did I learned what happened in history but I came out of it looking through a different paradigm.
I recommend him to everyone."
"My son had a very good experience with professor Thiru. He became more confident in the AP chemistry content and his grades improved for sure in the AP e
