About Hannah
I have been tutoring for over 6 years now and have worked on everything from personal creative writing projects to senior theses to college writing assignments. I graduated with a BA in Literature from Purchase College in 2014 to start my publishing career. I am an avid reader as my background suggests - I love reading in every capacity and share my enthusiasm with all of my students. My favorite genres are classic American literature, metafiction, and popular science though I read everything in between as well. Past students have been known to call me vibrant, imaginative, and ambitious. One of my greatest joys as a tutor is to help see students all the way through challenging projects. I pay very close attention to the needs of my students and feel it is highly important to facilitate a comfortable but structured working environment for
each student's particular challenges.

Tamar is a wonderful, dynamic and enthousiastic teacher and my 12 year old daughter had a great time with her.
Tamar knows when to slow down if her student is tired, but is also demanding so as to be sure that progress are made.
It was a pleasure seeing how fast my daughter improved her English and we both appreciated meeting Tamar, who is a great person :)

I have been tutoring Common Core Math, Algebra I & II, Geometry, SAT, ACT, and Grade school math since 2012; there is nothing I enjoy more than watching my students succeed.

I create a relaxed environment for my students in order to make the work stress free and enjoyable. My goal is to make the coursework fun for the student by finding an approach to learning that works best based on their unique characteristics. Being able to empathize with students in order to understand where their challenges lie and patient in helping them overcome those hurdles is where I excel. By exploring different approaches to difficult concepts I break them into manageable pieces that fit with each students prior experience which make learning approachable rather than overwhelming. Behind every concept we have yet to master there is a myth in our mind about
what it entails. Demystifying through creativity and humor allows my students to overcome a combination of fear, frustration and/or complacency that we all experience at some point while learning.

I have tutored dozens of students in the SAT and ACT and have helped them all increase their scores with most increasing their SAT score at least 100 points and some by over 400 points and on the ACT most by over 8 points and some by over 15 points. These are very difficult tests designed to be difficult to improve on. All of my students who gave themselves plenty of time to prepare and followed through on their promise to work on their own have seen significant score improvements.I have also worked with numerous students on developing study skills; helping them find the fun in school as well as helping with their organization skills and approach to homework.

Hello! I am currently in my first year of my Masters at NYU where I am studying flute performance, where I am studying under Soo-Kyung Park. I am also an Adjunct Instructor at NYU, where I teach undergraduate NYU students private flute lessons. I recently graduated from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music this past May, where I received a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance with a minor in art history. While at IU, I studied under Kathryn Lukas and participated in various ensembles and concerts, focusing mainly on chamber music.

I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia, where I studied under Christina Smith, the principal flutist of the Atlanta Symphony, and I also participated in a numerous amount of masterclasses and performances with many different flutists. I have been playing the flute for 16 years, and I have been playi
ng the piano for 18 years. I also play the piccolo, alto flute, bass flute, clarinet, and the guitar.

I have been teaching the flute for over 8 years. I have taught students of all ages and levels. I also have worked with high school students in assisting with flute sectionals through the band program.

I am experienced with a large variety of styles, and I am open to exploring different types of music.

My goal is to give students the ability and resources to grow to become an overall musician. I work hard to find out how different students learn, and I adjust my teaching style to fit different learning needs. I aim to help students find a passion in playing music, so I try an find out what interests a student and work to incorporate that into flute playing. I am very encouraging and enthusiastic in my teaching.

Please contact me with any questions :) Also feel free to check out more about me at my website sarahabramsflute.com

I was very skeptical at first about doing online lessons, but I'm very pleased with how the lesson went. Sarah really took the time to listen, and she is very patient. She helped me so much even though I am a beginner, and she showed me how to get better on my own as well.

I've taught writing in higher ed since 2016. Prior to that, I worked with students on a one-on-one basis. I'm currently available to teach lessons at your home, you local coffee shop or library, or any place that works for you!

I've worked with students who write across a broad range of styles and genres. I've helped students get op-eds published in magazines; get into writing MFA programs by editing their writing samples; and get published in literary magazines.

I'm the recipient of merit-based fellowships from the prestigious Iowa Writers' Workshop, where I received my Poetry M.F.A. in 2017. I hold a B.A. in English from N.Y.U.'s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.

My poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Fence, Salt Hill, and Epiphany, where I was winner of the Emerging Writers Award judged by Pulitzer Prize winn

I had virtually no experience with creative writing before working with Strummer. I was interested in seeing if it was possible for me to put together a somewhat interesting memoir.

Strummer was the perfect instructor for an absolute beginner. I was definitely nervous to show someone my writing, but Strummer was encouraging and enthusiastic, and her lessons were outlined in a way that made me feel like I was learning a craft, (as opposed to just winging it and seeing what she said).

Six months later I have a nice 150 pages that I’m feeling really good about. Strummer and I continue to work together and I highly recommend studying with her.

Strummer helped me edit and assemble my writing sample for my MFA applications. I found Strummer's guidance thorough, professional, and extremely useful. After several lessons, my portfolio was much stronger than when we initially met, and Strummer helped me think about my writing in a new way. She is truly a world-class editor. I'm happy to report that I was accepted into several of the schools to which I applied. Thank you Strummer!!!

Strummer is a fantastic teacher. I had very little writing experience and she provided me with writing exercises that were really fun and helped me learn the fundamentals of storytelling. Although I'm most interested in writing short stories, Strummer offered me several poetry exercises which she said would help my prose writing--and she was right! I highly recommend working with Strummer. She ignited a passion for writing in me that will continue to grow.

I don’t believe that education is one-size-fits-all !!!

That is the difference between the classroom setting and a quality tutoring session: as tutors, we are able to modify our teaching strategy to accommodate student’s particular strengths and limitations in order to maximize efficiency in the learning process.

In order to do this, it is imperative to be able to communicate effectively with the students in a manner that puts the student at ease and encourages confidence, openness and authentic determination to master the material.

This entails acknowledging and respecting our students as individuals and adapting to their age, background, learning style, level of experience and personal objectives. Our students and ourselves both genuinely enjoy the time spent learning because of the genuine, lasting relationship we seek to build.

T
he most gratifying part of our job is witnessing students ’ both tangible progress (in terms of grades etc.) as well as the development of an enthusiasm for learning and a realization of the opportunities and fulfillment that knowledge can afford in the present and future, regardless of age.

Our team is committed to our students ’ success, both immediate and long term, however one might choose to measure that. We stand apart from the competition not solely because of our qualifications, value & professionalism, but because we genuinely invest our time and energy into the growth of each individual we are privileged to work with.
