Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.
A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Devel
opment Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.
Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.
Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.
Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.
*** Lesson Details *** Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !
Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.
A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.
*** Studio Equipment *** The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.
*** Travel Equipment *** None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

After speaking to multiple tutoring companies, we discovered Matthew. Matthew was very professional and made my son feel comfortable. They had a total of 5 tutoring sessions covering Math, English, Science and Reading. My son took the ACT after his tutoring sessions and scored a 23. We were very pleased with the progress our son made by going from an ACT score of 19 to 23 after only 5 sessions with Matthew. I would highly recommend Matthew J. Horwich to anyone needing tutoring.

Matthew explained his approach to coaching and the plan so we were able to make an educated choice on the best tutor for our son. Matthew was responsive, organized and worked very well with our son. He communicated directly with our son and cc:ed me so that I was aware of the plan and f/u. His scores did improve on the SAT and we were pleased with the investment.

Matt has been awesome for my student. His math skills have improved greatly, and his writing has come from illegible to what can now be described as neat and readable. Matt has been very patient and deliberate with our son and has taken the time to really explain things to Jake in a way he can understand. We would recommend this tutor to any parent looking for a tutor for their grammar school student! Matt is also reliable and prompt and showed up when expected which was helpful with our very busy schedules.

Hi! My name is Julia A. I have been tutoring students of all ages and skill levels at learning centers, colleges, libraries and schools since 2008.
My instruction extends nationwide, with students from all corners of the US, utilizing online tutoring services such as Skype.
My main field of study is in MATH (trig, algebra, geometry, precalculus), CHEMISTRY (high school and college), and PHYSICS (high school and college).
I completed my Bachelors in Physics and Mathematics Education at Hunter University and have gained experience with both in-person and online group instruction and curriculum development.
Some examples of the students I have tutored are: Elementary school students preparing for State competitions and exams; High school and College students in preparance for entrance exams, and in subjects such as algebra, geom
etry, trig, precalc, chemistry and physics.
I do Regents and SAT/ACT prep for these subjects as well as the GRE (These are NYS based High School Preparatory Exams - do not hesitate to ask should you need assistance with the ones offered in your state/country).
In addition, I am thorough and meticulous, by paying special attention to how the student grasps information and retains it, I prepare individualized handwritten reviews, with supplemental material found online and in texts.
I assign homework to keep my students ahead of what is going on in class, and a visual and intuitive understanding of the concepts I present is important to me, so I use visual aids (diagrams and interactive models) to help my students integrate what they learn with me in real life situations.
My instruction includes: 1. Tutoring based on the school curriculum 2. Instruction on the home-schooling curriculum 3. Assisting those with a gap in going back to school/university.
I start with an assessment based on what the student has trouble with or last remembers covering in school, and prepare material going from there.
As a result, my students all have improved grades without any need for cramming before tests, and I encourage a stress-free and easygoing learning environment.
My lessons are fun and enthusiastic - these subjects are beautiful and will help open your mind to new ways of thinking - whatever your field of study!
Julia was very organized and well informed about chemistry. She was so much help. I would definitely use her again.

Great help to our 9y.o., who is exploring math. Clear explanation, additional materials, and a nice memo after each lesson. Thank you! Will do again!
July 27, 2017
Julia creates her own curriculum which is better than anything my daughters receive in their schools.
I see marked improvements in their grades for this past year, and my eldest is actually skipping fourth grade as a result of lessons. I am astounded as to my girls' progress, and greatly appreciative of our tutor's expertise.
Her patient, methodical approach to teaching is why I see us remaining with her for all of our educational instruction. She has already taught arithmetic to my youngest (3rd grade), and algebra to my eldest (starting 5th this sept!), and is proceeding with more advanced math with no issue whatsoever. I cannot recommend her enough.

I've been teaching GRE preparation for 6 years and my students have increased the Quantitative and Analytic sections of their GRE scores over 30 points from their initial scores.
I create a personalized daily syllabus that caters to each student's individual strengths and weakness, and check in with my students daily to make sure that they are completing their homework assignments and have no questions.
My program is rigorous and demanding, but leads to significantly higher scores very quickly. I do not give my students a chance to slack off or to stop doing their homework assignments because students are required to enter when they have completed their homework assignments, their scores, and their vocabulary words daily through a virtual tracking system that I have created.
I provide a book list including The Educational Testing Service and Kaplan books, though can work with whatever books students already have. I incorporate technology to keep students engaged.
Leona K. is available for in-home, in-studio, and online lessons worldwide! Leona has been tutoring students of all ages in academic subjects, test preparation, and violin instruction for over 14 years, since 2001. One of Leona's elementary school students who started lessons with poor grades was nominated Student of the District within three months of lessons with Leona. Leona teaches students of all ages and experience levels. Leona is a practicing attorney and is also currently pursuing her MBA. She attended NYU for her Bachelor's Degree, Washington and Lee for her JD, and is now an MBA student at NYU Stern. She has received As and superior scores in all of the academic courses and exams for which she tutors, and has won awards and soloed with orchestras on the violin. Her skills, personal experience, and schooling will bring all
students to the next level in their studies. Leona is a very patient instructor and works with students at their own pace to achieve great results!
Leona has been my life coach for several sessions now and I could not more highly recommend her. Depending on what information she is given beforehand, she will research the situation of the particular student (what career field they are considering for example) and bring what she has learned to the session. She then will listen intently to the student to find out what they want and what is most important to them. After that she will make excellent recommendations designed to maximize the chance that the student will succeed. After having several sessions with her, I can confidently say that every piece of advice she gives leads to a positive outcome if followed. For these reasons, I wholeheartedly recommend her.

I have been learning so much from Leona. I wish I had of started with her when I first began my GMAT journey. She makes everything very easy and break things down. You can't go wrong picking her.

Excellent teacher who developed a personally focused lesson plan that fit my needs. The constant and prompt feedback was what I needed to pass the TOEFL. I highly recommend Leona.
The GRE Math Section has presented the greatest challenge to graduate students allowing me to develop a structured practice schedule that involves revisiting the basics of college algebra and elements of calculus to rebuild confidence in problem solving. Also we have worked with some UCLA graduate students creating a vocabulary log that mirrors the typical GRE verbal section requirements. In the verbal sections also We have worked on comprehension strategies that center on analytical reading that leads to comprehension of passages.
My name is Paul. I have previously worked as a Math and Physics Tutor (4+ years experience) with the NASA Scholars Program in Los Angeles, tutoring College and High School students(+test prep;SAT,GED,ASVAB,ACT,CSET,GMAT,MCAT,GRE).I have assisted Undergraduate(UCLA,USC,SMC,LMU,CSUN,Cal State LB,Lafayette University,Brown University,Harvard,University of Texas,University of Miami,Boston University,University of Birmingham,University of Colorado,NYU,Vanderbilt,UC-Berkeley,Yale and others)and Graduate(MBA to Phd) students(5+ years experience) in STATISTICS,SPSS/STATA/PROGRAMMING DATA ANALYSIS for dissertations and Data/Business Consulting for organizations/startups.
I have strong backgrounds in Math and Architecture.I completed 2 and 1/2 years of Architecture at the Los Angeles Institute of Architecture and Design in Fall 2004. In Spring 2
004 I was the recipient of a student competition award from the American Institute of Architects at the A-D Museum in West Hollywood. I enrolled at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona-CAL POLY- to complete Majors in Architecture and MATH; and received the Don Leiffer award for excellence in Math at West LA College(spring 2005).
My professional architecture internships(TFA,K-RML,AJLA)Sports background and interactions with my nephews and nieces allowed me to use visual and Verbal ques in lessons.Math and Physics can be fun for you.
The GRE is among my favorite standardized tests. The math is manageable, the reading is predictable, and the essay component is almost fun!
The most important attributes of any teacher are empathy and patience.
I currently attend Harvard University and work as a professional writer and tutor. I've lived all over the United States, although I grew up in Scotland of all places. My scores on the SAT and ACT were perfect (1600 and 36 respectively), though I too had to work hard to get there, so I know what it's like when you're just starting out.
Over the years, I've worked with students suffering from ADD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, speech disorders, and depression; I personally grew up inured to social anxiety, so I can always empathize.
Some tutors will tell you that they know all the tricks and shortcuts. But really, there are no tricks. No shortcuts. Just hard work and sleepless nights and talking to yourself while brushing your teeth in the morning
I have a decade of experience and a vast collection of study materials that I can share with you for free. I've had the privilege to help hundreds of students with everything from college applications and essays to Creative Writing and Calculus, not to mention the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, ASVAB, and AP and SAT II subject tests, like Literature, Statistics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as well.
I absolutely love writing, of course, so I can teach you how to write an action scene or listen to a poem.
Simeon has been an absolutely invaluable resource for my SAT prep. His encouragement is appropriately supplemented by challenging material and (appropriately) challenging expectations. He manages to make studying for the SAT fun rather than a laborious task and I could not recommend him more.
May 6, 2019
My daughter's score increased by 130. Thanks SImeon!
June 20, 2018
Simon has somehow inspired my granddaughter to work really hard to prepare for her SATs. She is finding studying fun again, but more importantly, she is once again more confident about her intelligence and her ability to learn. His style and quirky humor is a perfect match for my granddaughter.
I taught Math at CPS and in the North Suburbs of Chicago. I believe, my strengths are patience and the ability to explain material in a clear, simple way.
I taught Algebra I and Geometry at Clemente High School in Chicago and AP Statistics, Geometry and Trigonometry at Libertyville High School Summer Program. I am currently teaching 7th and 8th grade Math at a private school in Buffalo Grove, IL. I love tutoring students of any age, from elementary to high school. It makes me happy when I see the progress they are making. My Master's Degree is in Curriculum and Instructions from Loyola University, Chicago. At one point in my life I wanted to be a pharmacist, but when I became a teacher, I realized that that is what I was meant to be. I love helping people. I see how much difference it makes in a student's life when he or she starts to feel confident in Math class, starts to get high scores, starts to dream big. Math opens the doors to a better future, to a better career, to a higher s
elf-esteem. I am grateful for the opportunity to help to make it happen.
My daughter was doing well but short of excelling in math. I sent her to Julia for that extra push and confidence that she needed. She really helped her have confidence and made her thorough with her concepts. She been doing really great ever since!
January 23, 2019
Julia is a highly knowledgeable, professional and personable teacher. My son has been tutored by her since the age of 4 and is now 13. His MAP and PARCC scores are off the charts and he just received his placements for Stevenson High School with the recommendations for the highest math classes offered to incoming freshmen. Julia taught him to love and be passionate about mathematics. Her primary goal is to make sure that the students learn in a stress-free environment and with that strategy she is able to accomplish brilliant results. I recommend Julia highly. She is very approachable and patient, loves children and loves what she does.
"Great tutor. Helped me with GRE preparation, science courses, and admissions process."
"My math improved so much ever since I started tutoring with Mr. Horwich. I am more confident with my answers and how I interpret the questions on the GRE."
"Preparing for the GRE test was a little stressful. I did not know what topics I should focus on in the little time I had, but Bill was able to break all t
he content into manageable sections. We managed to cover almost all the topics and my test went really well!"
"Daniel helped me with GRE math. We worked on problem solving, numeric entry and quantitative comparisons, all areas I really struggled with. I needed to r
aise my score by a few points, and I'm confident that Daniel's sessions will allow me to achieve that when I take my test next. Sessions were extremely useful and efficient. He used an online whiteboard, along with Skype, so that I had an easy to see breakdown of all of the problems. Not only did he help with problems, but he also gave me multiple resources to use in the future when studying for the GRE (e.g. great websites, formulas, etc.) I recommend him to everyone who needs help in math!"
"Gerardo is a very smart and patient person. He demonstrated in depth knowledge and proficiency on the GRE quantitative section. Likewise, his passion for
math made the subject easily accessible. Our lessons were worth every dollar spent."
"My first class with Leona went well and was very productive"
"Very helpful in explaining math concepts! He helped me raise my quantitative score from a 149 to a 158 in just 2 weeks!"
"He was super great with the Math portion of the GRE material! Super helpful!"
