A native of Charlotte, NC, Zachary began his musical career as a tuba player and jazz bass guitarist. While attending The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Zachary began singing in various vocal groups on campus and developed his love for the singing voice. With encouragement from the music faculty, Zachary began training as an operatic baritone while at UNC. While attending UNC, Zachary was awarded both the Fischer Scholarship in Voice and the Tony McDowell Voice Scholarship. His singing brought him to Boston in the summer of 2010 to begin study at The Boston Conservatory. While performing various opera roles and attending summer programs, Zachary also opened his private studio and taught at a local music academy.
Baritone Zachary B. is quickly establishing himself as an active operatic performer. Equally at home on the recital stage, his versatile lyric baritone voice fits a wide range of repertoire and styles. A graduate of The Boston Conservatory, Zachary has performed roles like the titular role in Don Giovanni, Ramiro in L'Heure Espagnole, L'horloge comtoise in L'Enfant et les sortileges, Pooh-Bah in The Mikado, and Bob in The Old Maid and the Thief.
Starting in February 2013, Zachary will also be available through TakeLessons for online instruction. Lessons will still focus on energy, breath, and solid technique, so please contact him if you think this venue of instruction will be a good fit!
*** Lesson Details ***
Regardless of your background, I believe in making lessons fun, encouraging, and accessible. This means that my work with you will, by nature, be incredibly personal and always formulated for your specific musical goals. I will constantly strive to make sure you are comfortable in our work together as we explore singing, speaking, and music theory.
I believe every singing or speaking voice can benefit from a foundation in classical vocal technique. Whether you prefer to learn through singing songs or through various exercises, I can customize our lesson plan to fit your needs. Therefore, I provide a fun and engaging lesson atmosphere, but you need to bring your best as well! We will both be happier with the process if we are equally invested in your growth. We will start with something you already know (an aria, vocal exercise, or excerpt from a song) and work toward singing in your preferred vocal style. For example, classical singers will build their knowledge of English, German, Italian, and French diction and song styles. Additionally, I will always respect and include my student's musical interests.
Along the way, I am happy to address basic music theory ideas. If you prefer, we can also spend additional time reviewing and learning those principles to enrich your musical experience. I will always provide different exercises and ideas to keep your brain active in the singing process.
I believe in whole body, whole spirit singing. As a performer, I employ a variety of holistic exercises and theories to develop my own voice, such as basic Alexander Technique principles, voice therapy techniques, a variety of pedagogical palates, and energy work. If these sorts of things interest you, I am more than happy to incorporate them into our lessons. My personal results with those practices have been incredible, so I am always eager to share.
My personality is outgoing and energetic, so I bring that sort of atmosphere to a lesson. I expect preparedness and readiness on your part to maximize our work together. I prefer for my students to have a keyboard or piano, and if possible, a music stand. We can always make a situation work if the student does not have access to these tools. I provide music, pencils, etc.

My instruction extends nationwide, with students from all corners of the US, utilizing online tutoring services such as Skype.
My main field of study is in MATH (trig, algebra, geometry, precalculus), CHEMISTRY (high school and college), and PHYSICS (high school and college).
I completed my Bachelors in Physics and Mathematics Education at Hunter University and have gained experience with both in-person and online group instruction and curriculum development.

I do Regents and SAT/ACT prep for these subjects as well as the GRE (These are NYS based High School Preparatory Exams - do not hesitate to ask should you need assistance with the ones offered in your state/country).
In addition, I am thorough and meticulous, by paying special attention to how the student grasps information and retains it, I prepare individualized handwritten reviews, with supplemental material found online and in texts.
I assign homework to keep my students ahead of what is going on in class, and a visual and intuitive understanding of the concepts I present is important to me, so I use visual aids (diagrams and interactive models) to help my students integrate what they learn with me in real life situations.
My instruction includes:
1. Tutoring based on the school curriculum
2. Instruction on the home-schooling curriculum
3. Assisting those with a gap in going back to school/university.
I start with an assessment based on what the student has trouble with or last remembers covering in school, and prepare material going from there.
As a result, my students all have improved grades without any need for cramming before tests, and I encourage a stress-free and easygoing learning environment.

For beginning students I start with Suzuki books until about book 5 and then begin to branch out into other repertoire. I also incorporate etudes by Dancla, Wohlfahrt, and Sevcik. I teach students to read music as well as basic theory and ear training. I also incorporate playing by ear and improvisation. These are important skills which help students develop into flexible and well rounded musicians.
I am happy to teach any piece in any style that the student wants to learn. Students do much better work and can learn much more when they are excited about the music they are playing. In addition, I can also help students prepare for auditions, competitions, or or to prepare orchestra music.

I create a relaxed environment for my students in order to make the work stress free and enjoyable. I have tutored dozens of students in the SAT and ACT and have helped them all increase their scores with most increasing their SAT score at least 100 points and some by over 400 points and on the ACT most by over 8 points and some by over 15 points. These are very difficult tests designed to be difficult to improve on. All of my students who gave themselves plenty of time to prepare and followed through on their promise to work on their own have seen significant score improvements.I have also worked with numerous students on developing study skills; helping them find the fun in school as well as helping with their organization skills and approach to homework.

I attended Seton Hall University for Education and Spanish where I was able to travel to Mexico, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Spain, and Costa Rica. After graduation I attended Rutgers for English as a Second Language. I am certified in New Jersey.
In our first lesson I like to see what level students are, ask what their goals are, and begin lessons that target those goals. Personalized lessons are the most effective and motivating. I love to help my students accomplish their goals and enjoy the process!

Among other life lessons, facing these two challenges showed me the power of good instructors, and more importantly, how to approach difficult topics. The best technique to understanding new concept
My goal for each tutoring session is to get my student to change the way they approach answering science based questions. While the alternative approach of memorization might be helpful in humanities, it would be fruitless in science or math courses. Once you understand the “why” behind the answer, the next task is to practice working on a variety of questions. To efficiently maximize our time together, I come prepared with worksheets on any challenging topic. At the end of each session, I ask my students what topics they would like me to cover the next session. If applicable, I incorporate relevant regent’s questions.
