I have been professionally singing and taking voice lessons since the age of 9! I went through various styles in my love and performance of music, starting with the Beatles, Aretha Franklin and all of Motown, Jazz (Ella Fitzgerald), R&B, and Classical/Opera (starting when I was in high school and attending Interlochen Arts Camp)...

Having received a Bachelor's of Music in Voice (Music Theatre Performance) from NYU, I stayed in NYC after graduation performing in musical theatre and theatre.

In 2009, I decided to apply to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, with the intent to broaden my range of skill and opportunity as a performer, but also with the intention to teach, with the higher degree strengthening this possibility. I began to teach voice lessons to fellow students while at LAMDA. When I returned to NYC, I began to
build my own voice studio in of post-graduate students and adults looking to further develop their vocal practice or begin a vocal practice. I found that in my vocal lessons, I was using physical exercises as for the actor, to incorporate in my private teaching method. I believe in doing, not only watching and observing. This, in conjunction with movement and full-body execution, opens the student vocally and emotionally. I chose to go to LAMDA because the classical training and approach to theatre training in England is extremely physical. They work from the outside in, and I find that the language of the body is universal to students of any intellectual capacity, and I strive to bring this into my approach in any type of teaching format!

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach voice lessons to adults and young students who are beginning their vocal training practice, as well as those who are accomplished singers and performers and want to take their singing and performance to the next level! I use my skills as an accomplished vocalist and teacher to empower my students to find their own voice and learn to express a story through song. I enable my students to hone their craft and find their own style of expression through the exploration of music in a multitude of genres and cultures.

WORKSHOP FOR LEARNING TO SING
COMPETENCY: A SOLID FOUNDATION IN THE BASICS OF SINGING
OBJECTIVE: Students will learn Basic Components of Singing and demonstrate via public (by choice) performance; at the end of course.
Pitch
Rhythm
Breath
Voice
Diction
Pitch
The use of pitch in language to distinguish words. All languages use intonation to express emphasis, contrast, emotion, or other such nuances.
Pitch refers to the notes and sounds that we hear when someone sings, and it determines if the song is going to sound great or not. The singer will have to hit various pitches in a song with a relative amount of accuracy in order to be in tune with the overall music accompaniment and harmonies.
RHYTHM
Every song has a certain beat, and it is essential that we keep to the basic rhythm of the song, or else we might find that we are constantly trying to catch up with the lyrics or always lagging behind. Rhythm also determines the groove of the song, and this is what gets us on our feet and dancing when we listen to upbeat or fast tempo songs.
A great sense of rhythm begins with learning to recognize various beat duration, to vocalize notes with different beats, as well as to be able to keep to the basic tempo of a song.
BREATH CONTROL
Breathing is an essential component of singing, and is what most singing instructors would introduce to students during their first lesson for singing. It is also what most people would want to learn about and also ask questions about.
Breathing is a natural process, and it is not difficult to achieve better breath control for singing. A great breath foundation is needed for singing!
VOICE
To produce great sounds when singing it is essential to adopt beneficial singing habits in order to produce sounds that are more relaxed and healthy.
DICTION
Learning how to produce sound with our voice is not enough. We still need to shape our voice, and form words in a language that our audience will understand.
This is why diction is also one of the vital basics of singing, because it determines whether our audience understands what we are singing, and whether we are able to connect with them through our song. Diction is also a key factor towards hitting the correct pitches, especially for the high notes, and this will be explained in detail.

COURSE OUTLINE:
Lesson 1 PITCH
How to avoid the most common singing mistakes that prevent singers from producing a clean and professional vocal tone.
Objective: Students will learn warm up exercises that strengthen vocal cords and loosen the muscles needed to produce a professional sound./ the importance of singing ‘scales’ to achieve this objective.
Lesson 2 RHYTHM
Rhythms often used in various standard songs.
Objective: Students will listen and learn to identify rhythms used in songs. CD player provided.
Students will learn to tap out the various types of rhythm.
Students will sing a favorite song; using rhythms learned in class.
Lesson 3 BREATH
For the purpose of voice projection, students will learn to breath more from the diaphragm, the muscles beneath the ribcage, as well as the abdominal muscles.
Objective: Students will learn vital techniques to create a connected voice blending head, chest and diaphragm.
Lesson 5 DICTION
How to use the emotions, enunciation and clarity.
Objective: Students will learn to sing a favorite song with focus on elements of singing.
Lesson 6 Review of previous 5 lessons.
Lesson 7 Group/Individual Performances
Objective: Students will show confidence in employing elements from training.
Lessons 8/9/10 Rehearsal for recital TBA

"There are two basic levels that every singer must address. The first one is addressing the condition of the body and voice and the second one is addressing the functioning of the voice and body."

I - Silent Foundation

The silent foundation refers to the condition of your instrument as it is silent. If we are looking at the body as an instrument that sings, we first have to make sure that our instrument is in good condition. How healthy is your instrument? Is it well rested, well hydrated and loose? Or is it tired, dehydrated and tense? As you could guess, the condition of your instrument will have a significant impact on the quality of the sounds you make. So the first thing to be addressed is how your instrument is before it starts making sound.

II - Conditioning of Singing Behaviors

This is when we get busy. Once we have a well rested, healthy, hydrated and relaxed instrument we can start working it out. The goal is to condition our singing behaviors to be reflexive, reliable and strong. The way to do this is through a series of vocal exercises that will condition your voice to respond to the desires of your heart. Whatever it is that you want to express will be possible once your instrument is conditioned to the point where there is no gap between what you want to express and your ability to do so. Learning to sing is all about learning how to express yourself without barriers. You should be able to develop enough range, power, control and skill so that you can express your heart without feeling like you'™re incapable of achieving what you pursue. To achieve these abilities training is often necessary.

Started working with Marjorie on a whim. It turned out to be one of the best spur of the moment decisions I've ever made. To start off, I had absolutely no background in singing. I do a lot of public speaking so wanted to work on my enunciation. So I decided to go the extreme and learn to sing. If you can sing in front of people, you have no problem enunciating.

Marjorie has a wide range of students, from beginners to advanced. One thing you can be certain about her is that she has a passion for teaching and loves teaching beginners. My experience with Anthony has helped me to push myself to limits that I could have never imagined, He has given me monologues that i would never have had the courage to even attempt. From our first meeting he fully immersed himself into getting to know me as a person finding out my strength and weakness as an artiste.
He has shown me how very important it is to have technical training, that it can only enhance the natural talents that I have. BIO: Elena started her musical studies at age 4, singing with the "New York City Opera Children Chorus". She studied at Manhattan School of Music. She studied in Hunter College and Queens College of the City University of New York and the Bejar Conservatory in Salamanca, Spain. She has performed in Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and throughout Europe as a soloist. She had sung Mimi in La Boheme, High Priestess in Aida, Ines in Il Trovatore, in addition to singing other operas including Othello, Carmen, Mephistopheles, The Magic Flute, L'Italiana in Algeri, Le Nozze di Figaro. She has participated in the Master Classes of Alfredo Kraus and Monserrat Caballé and David Jones. Jed, is an AMAZING acting instructor. I was working on a project and I only had two weeks to prepare for it. I hadn’t acted since I was 19 so naturally I was nervous. From my first meeting with Jed I knew I had made the right choice. He began to teach me the foundations of the Meisner method. He critiqued me every step of the way and his feedback was invaluable. When I stepped on set on 2/7/18 I had become the character. I felt confident and ready to deliver my lines. I can honestly say that I owe it all to Jed. It is my belief that acting is a subjective and personal action of the body and spirit. Each piece that the artist interprets and embodies, is beautifully unique because it is their expression of the self experiencing the story and enacting it (no matter what their age). It's such an awesome journey!
On that note, everyone is different, so when I approach acting, I first like to observe the learner through getting to know them. I look at what their truth is as a person, and from there we can get into the minutia. I also perform a series of warm ups to loosen the body and ease the mind. I make my student aware of their "performance habits," things that are a result of some agitation/quirk manifesting itself while performing.
After this, I use a variety of sources to help the actor find their truth. I sometimes use bits and pieces of acting "technique," that I have learned over the years, if I think it will benefit the learner. Things such as imagery, motive, verb association

About Nicholas
Personally, acting has always been about exploration. I absolutely loved creating stories when I was little and going on adventures. I relished time spent delving into my favorite books and films such as, "Star Wars" and "The Lord of the Rings." It was so exhilarating to dress up as a Jedi Knight and go on an amazing adventure. In a sense, my foundation for creative play started quite young.

While in elementary school, I knew I had a knack for acting when I played the drunkard (much to my family's chagrin) in an abridged version of "Much Ado About Nothing." My guy was a hit! It was here that I learned of my inherent talent for performance.

Fast forward a few years to high school, such an appropriate time to really get into acting: emotions are as high as the drama! I discovered two things in my freshmen year: 1) I couldn't h
it a baseball, so the freshmen team was not for me. 2) I fit in quite well with the theater crowd. I came to this realization after playing violin in the pit orchestra for my high school's performance of "Fiddler On The Roof." I watched everyone on stage and thought, "I would love to do that." I then went on to audition for the next play available.

From there on, it was history. I went on to star in many musicals and plays throughout my high school and college career. I received a B.A. in Theatre from The College of The Holy Cross and more recently, after moving to New York City, I completed a one year acting conservatory.

Over the past year, I have spent my time auditioning and booking many interesting projects ranging from short films to web series. I am constantly working towards my goals of being a full-time working actor in film and television. I do this by keeping my craft honed through teaching others as well as being taught. You never finish learning, especially with acting. I am constantly vigilant and proactive towards furthering my acting career, on the business side as well as the artistic. I genuinely enjoy the process of acting and teaching because both allow me to do what I love. Thank you so much for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!

Nick was incredibly supportive and helpful. One of the many things he's done for me was when auditioning for TV and film. He gave excellent advice and would not let me give up until the take came out exactly as eye-catching and interesting as I wanted it to be. He guided me and brought out the best in me. He is also incredibly patient! Five stars all the way :)

Nick is a creep. In college he would brag about buying alcohol for minors in his theater classes in exchange for “doing stuff with them”. I heard this first hand from him. Other classy moments include kissing a fellow actor against her will while under the influence of alcohol. Of course his girlfriend broke up with him for this, but he just blamed the whole thing on everyone but himself. What a jackass and a serious perv. Also: Yikes. Having your family members make up phony 5/5 reviews with their real names is quite a hilarious move.
