About Peter
I am a student of various great drum teachers from many backgrounds. Experienced players enjoy jamming with me, but I have been told that I am especially gifted at helping beginners feel comfortable finding rhythms and sounds out of any instrument, including the human body. Rhythmic breathing is made simple and encouraged from the start. Tones and drum patterns can be explained verbally or written mathematically. Students remember the patterns forever, as well as gaining comfort in playing with other drummers or instruments. Odd time signatures or complicated songs can be tackled and easily learned. Use any drum or percussion instrument you have! Recordings are encouraged if you like!

Peter grew up in Chicago, raised to love soulful music. A graduate of Northwestern University's Performance Studies program with a focus on Theatre and
Media Arts, Public Speaking, and Ethnology. Designing percussion for stage and dance lead to studies and teaching of North and West African, Middle Eastern drum, Caribbean/South American and Asian drum and percussion rhythms. First hand experience has been gained by living in Morocco and South Korea for nearly a year each, studying and documenting folk music.

Bryan has been great to work with. He has a lot of patience, which is important for someone like me who has a very limited musical background. He is clearly well educated in singing and is able to impart his knowledge to his students. I believe that anyone who takes lessons with him has the potential to greatly improve.

About Ari
Hello there! My name is Ari, and I am a MA in Government graduate student living in Marblehead. I have been tutoring for 8+ years and working in education/childcare generally for about 10 years. I have worked with kids of all ages (elementary to college) in all major subjects and several specialties.

I have worked with individuals with several types of learning, social, and emotional complications. I have worked with several learning styles and therein take an adaptive teaching approach. I see tutoring as not pure pedantry, but a constructive process whereby the student, the student's parent(s) (if involved) and myself regularly discuss the style of the tutoring sessions as well as the student's study habits as appropriate by age.

Ari is Awesome! My daughter is about to turn 14, and has been having a lot of trouble getting history to "stick". She likes mythology and ancient history, but anything after the Fall of Rome - forget it! In one ear and out the other!
Enter Ari - he's totally turned that frown upside down! She's actually excited about the stuff they talk about, and she feels confident that she'll be caught up and ready to move into high school with some strength in history, instead of dread! In fact, she's even talking about trying for honors history!!
Ari is enthusiastic and engaging, and motivating! YAY!

About Nayoon
“I would not have passed my test in such a short time without her. I hired her a week before my test. She was very professional and very smart, and she used different technique to help me remember.”
- Fabiola

“My daughter is so happy about her A in math. Thank you for everything you are teaching her!”
- S., Newton, MA

I'm an MIT tutor specializing in math and test prep, and I have taught math (anywhere from prealgebra to calculus) for 5 years. I have gotten perfect scores on SAT Math, SAT Math 2, and ACT Math. I also have taken AP Calc BC, AP Chem, and AP Bio. I have been an active member of math team throughout secondary school, and my sister and I solve math problems for fun in our spare time. I am especially experienced with the gifted students.

I believe in deep learning. Deep learning helps students build strong foundation
s to succeed in future courses. To facilitate this type of learning, I show how the formulas are derived and drill the students on concepts until they fully master the materials. If you think we may be a good fit, please click the green button on the right!

About Guifang
I have more than eight years of language teaching experience. I have learned five languages over the years in China and overseas. I started tutoring Chinese students (age 8-16) English and Chinese when I was 19 and I founded my first summer camp in China when I was 20. Students who had registered for my summer camp increased from 25 in 2010 to 86 in 2016. I've gained very valuable skills and perspectives in teaching, not just as a teacher, but also as a student--students are my teachers too--I've learned there are always places that I can improve and better help them learn languages. Students' "needs" and "wants" are prioritized. It helps students achieve their goals while combined with students' "lacks" in lesson planing. Students should get involved in the lesson planing progress.

Interest is the best teacher. When I taught nonnative
Chinese speakers (in China, South Korea and the U.S) Chinese, it seemed it stimulated their curiosity and interest to learn Chinese when cultural elements were introduced--such as characters' origin and visualization, historical contexts and cultural traditions. I hope that approach can also bring you an enjoyable experience learning a new language!

To help you be able to use Chinese, our language learning is mainly through interactive and communicative approaches. Talk! Talk! Talk! Please don't be shy. It's okay to make mistakes. Learning from mistakes is also a very effective way to learn a new language. We can make more contextualized dialogues based on whatever textbook you are using now. Or we can produce functional conversation based on everyday topics that you are interested. Lesson plans are customized and they can be flexible.

Ready to get on the boat and sail on the sea of Chinese? :)

I recognized Guifang's experience as a language educator immediately. She is patient, concise, and clearly enjoys teaching. Her assistance has been crucial to my developing an efficient learning system. I rely on her for refresh and expand my Chinese language skills biweekly. She has way of conveying the subtleties of fluent pronunciation. I did not expect to make so much progress so quickly. Highly Recommend her services!

Guifang is a gem. She's incredibly nice, and very good at correcting me in a direct but kind way. She's a lovely person and fantastic at teaching! I am so happy to have met her, and we continue chatting even though we're far apart now. I'd highly recommend her to anyone as a language instructor!

About Reinhold
I have spent significant time in the last 5 years tutoring students of all ages in their STEM courses. I have worked for businesses that have connected me with students on a fixed schedule, and I have worked privately, communicating directly with the students (or parents) for scheduling. Unless absolutely necessary, I prefer the students not use a calculator. It quickly becomes a crutch that reduces a students' ability to check his/her work.

I receive strongly favorable reviews for my enthusiasm in the subject matter and in communicating concepts effectively. My background in theoretical physics and experience in engineering projects allows me to speak knowledgeably about how schoolwork is used in real life. My passion is presented clearly to students, encouraging them to show interest in subjects that are often disliked or stigmatized.
