As a professor of voice at NYU for ten years and the owner of a private studio in NYC for over fifteen years, the students I’ve trained have gone on to Broadway and major musical theater productions throughout the US, to graduate programs in opera at top conservatories, and to successful careers as independent artists in the pop and indie music world. As a vocal technician and a vocal coach I understand that each student and each voice is unique, and I work to uncover your true sound through a solid technical foundation that will free your voice and expressive capabilities. As a composer, songwriter and actor I can incorporate music theory, lyric writing, acting for song as well as monologues or scene work, audition preparation, career coaching and branding into any private lesson setting, depending on the student’s needs and goals.

Anna was my voice teacher for 3 years at NYU Steinhardt for music theater/vocal performance. I feel so lucky to have had her as a teacher. When I started, I had never taken any formal training and felt like I had a lot to learn. Anna gave me tools that I still use to this day for my specific voice. She helped develop a language through our lessons that made the concepts easier to comprehend. Anna was not only extremely connected to the technical aspect of singing, but also the artistic side. She always placed an emphasis on telling a story through music, and that was my favorite thing about being a student of hers. As a performer, she was always pushing me to know what I was singing about and why I was singing. I cannot say enough amazing things about her as a teacher and as a human being! Thank you Anna!

Anna is an incredibly talented and knowledgeable teacher. She helped me to reach all of my singing goals in the time that I worked with her, and the skills and vocal awareness she imparted to me have been incredibly useful in my professional life. She is a wonderful teacher and lovely person!
Madeline Bernstein
Anna was my voice teacher at NYU Steinhardt in the Vocal Performance program. In addition to her warm and welcoming personality, she was a tremendous help in transforming my voice for the better! She is wonderful at helping to visualize different parts of the voice as an instrument, and she not only helped me to expand the flexibility and ease of my head voice, but also helped me explore my lower register, while seamlessly bridging the gap between the two.

Nick is an amazing voice teacher and a highly skilled singer himself. His lessons are very thorough, but also fun! While Nick gives you corrections, he also emphasizes the things that you are also doing well on. You will leave his lessons feeling confident and energized!
Emma
I have had the privilege of working alongside Nick, learning from him, and watching him grow as a performer and as a teacher. I have seen him instruct and collaborate with peers and adults, as well as kids ranging from 8 to 18. The way in which he is able to articulate and pinpoint areas where improvement is available, while simultaneously keeping things fun and positive, is a true accomplishment. He cares so deeply about the work, as well as people. If you are looking for someone for your kids or for yourself, Nick comes with a plethora of knowledge and a humble, jovial demeanor. It will be a judgement free zone, so you can come as you are, wherever you are with your singing journey. Be prepared to work hard, connect to your body, and have a great time. I personally still look to him for audition advice, style tips, and reminders of technique. I could not recommend Nick enough.

We went with online piano lessons at the moment due to COVID, but I was nervous about the format as the lessons are for my five-year-old daughter, so I was concerned the additional technology would be an impediment. Dr. Merkel was wonderful. He was friendly and encouraging to my daughter, ensuring she knew she could ask any questions she might have at any point. He absolutely made the technology work for us, and my daughter learned more than I would have thought possible in 30 minutes. She is counting down to her next lesson!

2 stars instead of 3 because on this platform 2 means "could have been better" and 3 is "met my expectations".

Although I really liked Stephanie personally, accent reduction lessons weren't really worth it. We didn't get past reading some tongue twisters and some text off the book. Lacked the theory behind sounds formation and personalized approach/solution for a particular accent that I have. There was still value in having someone on the other end listening, but I'd really like to have more structured and targeted approach to eliminating my accent.

"DB is the best!! I came to Donnabella at a slump in my career. I simply wasn't sure what to do next. She was so patient and positive, I couldn't be more grateful. We spent some time seriously considering my strengths and weaknesses. I learned to highlight my strengths, and developed my weaknesses! Most importantly, I had a sense of direction and fell back in love with the process of acting."
