About James
I worked for Eddie Van Halen for five years in the 1990's in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles and was instrumental in providing help with development of the Peavey Wolfgang and Wolfgang Special Guitar by providing feedback on the prototypes Eddie was designing at the time. I learned a lot from Eddie and his brother Alex about music and the music industry. (All you have to do is pay attention! ) I have played in bands from Hollywood to Toronto and back both as a singer songwriter and guitarist. I bring the Musicians Institute way to the table and get things up and running quickly. I help students get it under their fingers fast and get it right the first time.

I believe in sharing the happiness of making music with anyone who loves music and the guitar in particular. I do my very best to get you playing the songs you love in Pop,
Rock, Jazz and Folk Music of your choice. Today's modern new guitars are easy to play and you will enjoy learning Guitar right away. That is how it should be.
When you study there is a basic understanding of Guitar to be learned that allows an ease of use for anyone for years to come. This will help you reach your goal and improve each week. My students learn to practice in a way that feels comfortable and makes sense. This takes all the stress out of learning and gives everyone something to smile about and look forward to each week.

The good feeling of playing along with friends and taking a solo is within every students grasp. I will show you the way there. And with a solid and straightforward approach to the theory as it applies directly to the guitar you will feel confident and unafraid of any music endeavor. We'll cover harmony and fingerboard theory and give you a road map of the guitar neck that makes it a pleasure to play. You learn the basics and much more than you thought possible retaining 90 percent of what you learn!

Having been a student myself I was deeply involved in music since age 12 and played in bands and duos for over 15 years . I can help you to be a well rounded player and performer with a smile, a laugh and a joy for music whether your in a band or a budding solo artist.

*** Lesson Details ***
Most students want to play the Guitar to play their favorite songs and I'm the same way. Music is something we carry with us in our hearts and minds. Students will learn what they wish to learn and work at a pace that is comfortable to them. Whether you are a student, “weekend warrior” or a parent whose child has expressed an interest in Guitar anyone can learn all there is to know about Harmony and Theory for the Guitar and how to play their favorite songs.

We cover theory in an easy and straightforward no nonsense way in the first half of each lesson and then apply it to the song you wish to learn. This creates an atmosphere where you understand and feel at home with the Guitar. You get an understanding right away and because it is immediately fun it allows you to feel comfortable at any level. Music is fun, and songs are the creative expression of what we feel. Combining theory and the freedom to play and sing songs allows us to express ourselves through music.
After 6 months students will have a solid foundation in theory, and a road map of the guitar fretboard enabling them to advance to an intermediate level if they are ready to do so. Students will know enough that music as it relates to the Guitar, which is the world’s most popular instrument in contemporary music, is not a mystery but is a welcome friend. And they will be able to play songs by popular artists and advance at a pace that is satisfying and enjoyable.

Tom has been teaching private lessons since 2006 and is currently available to teach lessons online. Foremost, Tom provides expertise, experience, and encouragement.

Tom received his training at Boston University in 1998 where he received a degree in Finance and International Relations. Then going on to receive a degree in English Literature. As an native in the English language Tom looks forward to helping new students achieve their goals. Tom's teaching style is relaxed and filled with humor that continues to motivate his students.

Lessons are scheduled to best fit to the student'€™s schedule when possible.

ESL/ELL STUDENTS

Teaching non-English speaking students the basic AND advanced fundamentals of English. The seven parts of speech taught are nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and int
erjections.

Tom works at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels as an adult education instructor providing English instruction to classes or individual students.

As an ESL teacher, developing a curriculum he takes an overall approach to English study that focuses on a specific aspect of language use, such as life skills, literacy, or vocational and workplace English competencies. Both approaches involve teaching his students basic English skills, such as listening, reading, writing and speaking.

CLASSROOM/LESSONS

- Pronunciation techniques
- Quizzes, textbooks, videos and computer lessons
- Basic communication with real-life interactions

Using language use in different situations, such as shopping, schooling, job hunting or working with English-speaking co workers.

He places awareness on the students' culture and recognition of cultural differences which might affect a student's ability to acclimate to an English-speaking environment.

TECHNOLOGY

Combination with TakeLessons Classroom and eLearning it is critical learning a secondary language effectively - see attached

Excerpt from "50 Ways to Teach Online: Tips for ESL/EFL Teachers" by Dr. Justin Shewell.

The Pedagogical Foundations Of EnglishCentral

By David Deubelbeiss

EnglishCentral is a company that takes pride in having experienced teachers on staff and designing a product that will help students learn and acquire English, particularly for international communication.

Too often technology is designed without the control or voice of educators. Technology for technology's sake. We have tried to avoid this error and build an e-learning platform that puts pedagogy and learning first.

Here are the key aspects of English Central's pedagogy:

1. Motivation.

We live in a visual and digital world. Students consume enormous amounts of video content and video has become the new textbook. EnglishCentral harnesses this built in, intrinsic level of motivation - why not learn English while viewing videos you love? EnglishCentral publishes 30 new video lessons per week and its vast library of video lessons and courses offers every student the chance to study what they want and listen to messages they want to hear.

2. Comprehensible Input

Not only do students need to listen to messages they want to hear - these messages must be level appropriate (Krashen, 2001). Each EnglishCentral video lesson or course plus our vocabulary is leveled and can be assigned to students based on their level of English. This provides appropriate practice maximizing language acquisition.

3. Precise, Timely Feedback

EnglishCentral provides instant feedback to students. Students begin to "notice the gap" (Schmidt, 1990) and begin to self-correct as they compare their speech to the original. Tools are provided so students can "dig down" and understand the language and get the answers they need immediately. EnglishCentral works to promote learner autonomy.

4. Lowered Affective Filter

Many students go through a substantial "silent period" (Krashen, 1985). Others need the time and space given through self-study before they are ready to excel in the very socially demanding classroom. EnglishCentral provides a safe, low anxiety environment where learners can proceed at their own pace and practice speaking in a non-threatening place. Teachers are often amazed how the quiet students in their class "bloom" on EnglishCentral.

5. An Oral Language Focus

The 21st century workplace and global nature of communication demands that students have strong speaking skills. The importance of written communication is receding. EnglishCentral's proprietary speech recognition system IntelliSpeech™ trains students to produce, clear, intelligible speech for effective communication across cultures and borders.

6. Blended Learning

The future of education lies in blended learning (Arne Duncan, 2014). EnglishCentral partners with schools and teachers offering a unique blended learning model and platform. Courses and video lessons can perfectly compliment what students learn in class, providing students with extra practice matching the class curriculum. Our free LMS lets teachers extend the curriculum and track student achievement.

7. Structured Learning

Our simple Watch | Learn | Speak methodology provides low cognitive overload and an easy to follow learning pathway. Courses and video lessons are leveled and vocabulary is presented with spaced-time repetition. EnglishCentral monitors every word or expression students study and provides a simple interface where students can use the feedback to improve their pronunciation and build their vocabulary.

8. Gaming

Students are highly engaged by the gaming dynamics of EnglishCentral. Students compete for XPs (Experience Points) and ranking through their study. However, we don't go overboard and aim to keep the focus on the learning, not the gaming.

9. Ambiguity Tolerance

Language is a vast and unpredictable space. Successful language learners are risk takers. Critical to being a risk taker is having a strong ability to not be stressed out by what you don't understand (Brown, 2007). EnglishCentral provides authentic content that challenges students to focus on the general meaning and gist and strengthen their level of ambiguity tolerance.

I have been taking Liam's Tai Chi/ Qi Gong class for nearly two years now. He is a dynamic teacher that is sensitive to different types of learning paces and styles (both eastern and western) and employs both in his classes. His explanations are simple and he always relates the movement back to its origin as a martial arts defense/offensive move which helps one establish the intention behind the movement. I have learned yang short form and chen style short form from him. I would highly recommend that you take his class if you are interested in beginning or continuing a tai chi practice. Through my practice I have found a healthy way to manage stress and anxiety.

About Kellie
There's no such thing as a perfect yoga practice or even a perfect yoga pose. For years, I was convinced, I could only become a yoga instructor if I was at the peak of my physical fitness, as flexible as elastic, a dedicated vegan, and had absolutely no vices. I looked upon my current instructors as if they could do no wrong; the epitome of health, wellness and wisdom. (Not long after this thought, I got to know my instructors on a personal level, realizing they are human too and there is no "perfect" yoga instructor as I thought in my mind. Some of the greatest instructors I have ever worked with started their journey as a way to overcome a personal battle, grief, a tragedy, addiction or as a last effort to change their current lifestyle.

Mr. Dali had it right all along, it is impossible to achieve perfecti
on. We are individuals, therefore, each one of us has a unique body meaning we're going to have our own unique yoga practice. I learned fairly quickly that there is no room for self judgement or criticism in the practice of yoga. It doesn't matter how flexible I am or what crazy arm balance, twisty thing I can do without breaking a sweat and smiling perfectly for the camera. Instead, I found out about the development of a practice to improve my weaknesses and create balance in not only the physical body but emotional, mental and spiritual body as well. When I had this epiphany, I felt I just had to share it with anyone who would listen. So I enrolled in a yoga teacher training program in the summer of 2007 in Chandler, AZ.

I started my yoga practice in 2003 in Scottsdale, Arizona. I signed up for a power yoga class with absolutely no yoga experience, but I thought "Hey, I grew up in gymnastics, I got this." (Ummm.....I couldn't of been more wrong). I struggled my way through, sweating profusely, never in the same pose or correct side as the rest of the class, and suddenly forgetting my right arm from my left pinky toe. I was determined! I kept coming back with the intention of mastering power yoga and being the best in the class.

It was years before I realized I cannot master yoga. You are a student of the practice with an endless amount of knowledge to gain. It isn't a class where you receive a grade, instead it becomes a lifestyle. For me, the transformation moved slowly and subtlety, then one day, almost instantaneous, I began to notice my personal views and beliefs had changed. I developed more patience, tolerance, I was calmer, my worries and fears didn't seem to be as terrifying, my mind was clearer and I wasn't constantly on auto-pilot. As soon as the fog was somewhat lifted, I felt clarity soon to realize what I thought I knew about yoga, was really nothing at all.

Power Yoga and Vinyasa has always been one of the greatest loves of my life as well as an amazing and CHALLENGING way to workout feeling completely refreshed. Although, it wasn't until I discovered the practice of Yin Yoga when I stumbled on to my absolute passion, yin yoga. Not familiar with Yin? This style of yoga is much more passive, however, in many ways yin can be just as difficult as an intense hot yoga flow class. over the past 10 years, yin has become more mainstream in the west. (many studios do a variation of yin calling it "deep Stretch") The true form of yin yoga poses are held anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes even longer. The postures are all seated and designed to MODERATELY stretch the connective tissue in the body. (JOINTS, ligaments, tendons, FASCIA).

Yin Yoga did something for me that I never thought was possible. It no longer became just a physical workout, instead it transformed into a more emotional, mental and spiritual practice. I have suffered from post PAR-TUM depression with both of my two boys, struggled with ANXIETY attacks ever since I was a young girl (I remember having my first one at the age of 5) as well as have been DIAGNOSED with bio-polar disorder and INSOMNIA. I have been on every medication under the sun (you name it, I'm sure it's been prescribed to me) and sometimes they worked and others......made life a little more colorful at times. It wasn't until i ACCIDENTALLY wondered into a yin yoga class that ever even imagine there was anything else out there beyond WESTERN medicine could help me slow down my thoughts enough to where my brain didn't feel as if was an sr-71 blackbird taking off during the cold war. I'm not saying, "quit taking you're meds and just start doing yoga." That is definatly not the answer.

Yoga has enhanced my life in more ways than I ever thought COULD exist. It started as a competition with myself to become a part of my everyday life. I thought If i could ACHIEVE "perfection" it meant accomplishments, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, self-worth, respect, SUCCESS, wealth, power, fame, money, popularity.....ect., ect., ect., Then the world would be right, my life would be fulfilled and I would happy. sure, some of those things might make you feel better on the inside, maybe APPRECIATE life a little more or not take things for granted, as they should. However, when its all said and done, yoga has THOUGHT me that the only pure happiness can come from within, not through perfection.....and i didn't learn that from bench pressing.

I have been working with Kellie for over 2 years and I am so happy I found her! I was an athlete growing up and played football and baseball from the age 5 to 18. I never liked to stretch and avoided it at all costs. Now that I am an adult I've begun to just realize how much my body needs it and thought I would give yoga a try. At first, I did not like Yin Yoga but after a couple of month's I was hooked. I feel amazing and my low back hardly ever hurts anymore. If you are nervous to try it, don't be, it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

About Heather
Heather is a model and performing artist, with a passion for dance, creating lasting art, live performance and entertainment. Her performance experience goes all the way back to when she was 7 years old and began twirling baton in parades and cheering for the local football clinic. Heather has been a practicing eclectic pagan for 11 years and has been studying the occult since she was 13 years old. She plans to have a shop one day where she can continue her meditation classes, tarot readings and spiritual cleansings and expand further into the healing arts.

Heather has always loved dance. Growing up, she was influenced by major Hollywood dance films and dance competition shows. In 2015, during a transformative time in her life, Heather fell in love with the pole and found herself engrossed in the performance aspect. Her journey lead he
r to a change of life and she lost 50 lbs, and despite being an athlete throughout school, became the fittest she had ever been. After two years as a performing artist and dancer, she became determined to help others realize their fitness goals while having fun and expressing themselves through dance. She now teaches pole fitness and dance, specializing in burlesque style movements.

Heather performs at local gigs, spreading the beauty of and (hopefully) helping to de-stigmatize pole dance. Heather is expanding her knowledge of aerial arts to include aerial hoop, silks, and even acro yoga. "One of my deepest passions is dance." She enjoys burlesque, pole, swing, tango, waltz, broadway, paso doble, foxtrot and more. As a child, Hearher's least favorite style of dance was contemporary. However, as her pole dancing career has evolved, she finds herself drawn to the expressiveness of the style. Heather plans to compete at Pole Con 2018.

I'll continue going to her as long as she is a teacher and motivator and I'd definitely recommend her to anyone looking for help with their fitness, pole, and well-being needs.
