I am a laid back teacher, but I definitely expect students to practice what I suggest they practice. I advise that students use method books or sheet music of some sort, and I will certainly make notes for them and create materials they can learn from. I always teach based on the goals of the student and what type of music they enjoy, but I also like to guide the student in a direction I think would benefit them. I usually introduce music to play right away, conforming of course to the skill level and interest of the student. I now a play seven-string guitar that differs from the standard six-string guitar in that it has one string lower than the low E of a six-string. It will be practical to aide students by accompanying with a bass range instrument.

My teaching style is quite simple and effective. I initially gauge the student's level of understanding of the subject or skill that he/she wishes to master. About Artem K.

I learned English as my second language when I was invited to study Music Performance at Dalhousie University on a full scholarship. As an ESL student I believe that I understand the intricacies of this language much better than a native speaker, since I had to learn it from scratch at University level. Through both of my degrees I have been writing academic papers and one of my essays was published by a Harvard professor. I am an avid lover of literature and a real grammar-nazi with good intensions of course!
About Artem
I am passionate about teaching because I believe education and willingness to learn is an extremely important factor for personal development and success.
I was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Russia and underwent intensive training in Voice, Violin and Piano. After winning the Frieburg Intenational Violin Competition in 2010, I was offered a full scholarship to study music at Dalhousie University at the age of sixteen. After moving to Canada I had to go through a 9-month intensive english learning program, so I know first hand how difficult it can be to learn a new language. This experience helped me understand the struggles that any ESL student goes through and discover new ways to teach
I am excited to get to know you and share my knowledge with you!

English as Second Language, especially for native Russian- and Ukrainian-speakers.
About Anna
Russian could be fun - seriously. No more boring drills and tests - I'll make you look forward with excitement to your Russian lessons! I’ve been tutoring for more than 5 years and I can promise you a quick and painless learning process and a visible progress starting already with the first lessons.
As I’ve come to realize, every student needs an individual approach, so I always tailor a study program depending on the student’s level of knowledge, learning preferences and objectives. I prefer a communicative approach as I understand that t
I have experience of teaching all levels from the very beginner to the near-fluent and helping to improve specific skills, given on my students’ individual needs, such as pronunciation, grammar, conversational, writing, reading and listening skills, Russian for business travels, etc. I will provide you with a variety of study materials that you can use with me and on your own. I will also introduce you to the secrets and idiosyncrasies of the Russian culture, as the knowledge of the culture is a necessary ingredient in your mastery of the language. Plus, getting to know the notorious Russian culture is what could make the learning process really entertaining.
More about me: I am a world traveler and an aspiring polyglot. I got addicted to discovering other languages and cultures early on in life and was excited to move to the US from Ukraine 8 years ago (I am originally from the Russian-speaking part of the country, although I am fluent in Ukrainian). Languages turned out to be my long-term love affair and after having become fluent in English, I moved on to study German, French and Spanish. I’ve realized that tutoring my own language is an extremely rewarding activity as I am able to appreciate its beauty and intricacies and share this appreciation with others. I also realized that I learn from my students as much as they learn from me. Learning is indeed a two-way street. I appreciate my students and sincerely cheer for their progress. Best teachers are more than just instructors, they are mentors and friends and that’s what I try to become for my students.
