Most of my students are tutored in math. Usually my students suffer from math anxiety. They believe that they are bad in math. I help them to use previous knowledge to build on the current material. By the end of the sessions, they feel good about themselves and their math abilities.
I also have a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA. I help students prepare for college/career from grade 9 through grade 12. I help with standardized tests, entrance tests, college applications and federal funding.

*** Lesson Details ***
These details change depending on, whether you would like musical training or academic tutoring.
Music is fun and the lessons should be as well. When it comes to practice I recommend that students do spend time (1/2-1hour daily) outside of the lessons practicing to ensure that they see results. If you choose to practice only while in the lesson you will get better but it will be at a slower pace.
- Start with quick warm ups (these work to increase students fluidity with their instrument)
- Work technique
- Assign repertoire depending on skill level.
- Work on assigned repertoire
- Work on technical aspect of the pieces.
Your student will learn much more about their capabilities and their instrument as they will learn many aspects of Music Theory.
I teach beginning- advanced piano lessons touching on posture, hand position, rhythm training, sight-reading, expression, and pop/jazz chord charts. If you want to learn how to play songs by ear that you hear on the radio, I can train you how to do that too! Once I feel that you have surpassed my ability to help you grow, I will be happy to pass you on to a more experienced teacher and attend all of your future recitals.
I teach voice beginner-professional, which includes classical repertoire and technique as well as Musical Theatre, Pop, Rock, Standards, Country, RnB,...you name it. The best part is that you will learn to sing in a manner that will not damage your instrument and in fact will work to fortify your instrument.
- Start with introduction to the standard.
- Work on problems with material.
- Present new methods to reach a solution.
- Work on all assigned work.
- Work on future work to give the student an academic advantage.
I am a hard working tutor that will bring the joy of the subject to our sessions of tutoring. I am strict at times, however, some of my students have referred to me as mellow. I will strive to bring your student up to speed and surpass even their own expectations. I love my students, and I want to see them succeed.

I am a student at SDSU. I am graduating next year. I have been tutoring for many years now. I am able to help with grammar, spelling, essay constructing, and English assignments.
This option is for English speakers in high school or college who are working on English literature. If you're looking for classes in English as a second (or third) language, pick the ESL option rather than this one. About me, I took AP English in high school and scored quite highly. I have studied English literature for several years and enjoy discussing it with students.
All of my students, meaning a perfect 100%, have improved their grades by at least one letter grade, if not more, and passed every one of their tests and exams. I help ALL my clients reach their goals!
A couple years ago, I returned to San Diego after living in Peru for several years where I taught English as a second language. My students ranged from adult business people and academicians to primary and secondary school students. I really needed to utilize different teaching methods depending on each student’s needs. Some students wanted more business-related conversation, so I had to be able to teach business principles in marketing, communication,
The feedback I often received from my Peruvian students, as well as my students in Mexico and the U.S., was that I made learning an enjoyable experience—they wanted to work harder to advance quickly in their classes. All of my students agree that I have a lot of patience and turn even the most challenging lessons into ones of positivity and encouragement. I provide critical feedback in the most constructive of ways that help the students reach conclusions on their own. I enjoy being there to support and guide their experience!
Before I left for Peru, I worked at St Vincent de Paul Village (part of Father Joe's Villages) in downtown San Diego. There I focused on Health Education. I built the Villages' first Health Education department and helped start its innovative Health & Wellness program. As part of these two programs, I taught homeless and low-income adults with and without learning disabilities, as well as children from preschoolers to high school students. Teaching such a wide variety of students how to improve their health while living in sometimes precarious situations without much income or stability pushed me to think creatively and come up with memorable ways to engage the students and help them apply what they had learned in their daily routine.
In high school, I took all AP and college prep classes. I went to a liberal arts college in Virginia where I focused on social studies and biology. I spent a few years training business people in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, InDesign, as well as presentation techniques. In grad school, I specialized in applied anthropology and public health. During that time, I tutored students in web design. In between, I've worked in Communications and Training in international health and development, so I have a lot of experience to bring to teaching.
Basically, I love teaching. I'm enthusiastic yet patient, and I absolutely adore helping kids and adults alike learn. It's such a sense of accomplishment when my students show off their terrific grades. I see the same look in my students’ eyes regardless of age—that pride that shines from within, that exuberant smile, like they can conquer anything. I want my students to keep that pride for a long, long time.
Right now, I'm writing two textbooks to be used in my Spanish classes. I've also written several academic articles published online. I love traveling, cats, and learning!

My name is Katherine. I am new to TL and excited to share with you my 15+ years teaching English as a Second Language. I am natively bilingual, both in English and Spanish, mastering both languages since childhood. I have done much research in language learning, neurolinguistics, and teaching techniques, to be able to provide an unique English learning experience for people who struggle with the language and want to master skills in writing, reading, grammar, TOEFL prep, but most importantly speaking and listening. I grew up as an immigrant in the USA, so I know how non-English speakers are frustrated in taking years of classes without being able to communicate in English. I have developed my own method of teaching English in a quick, fast-paced, and effective way through my experiences that I hope to share with you soon. You will see fast and impressive results in your time learning with me.
I am from Colombia and moved to the USA in 1999. Growing up in an immigrant home, I mastered translation and interpreting in English and Spanish vice-versa as my family's livelyhood depended on my contributions. This led me into strong interest in language learning, researching into neuroscience, linguistics, biology, and development psychology. This also led me to further developing learning methods and techniques though strategic design, neuro-plasticity, and natural learning interfaces to teach the English language to beginner
I also worked as project manager for United Data Technologies, working on a concept proof to gain greater insight into integrating technology into K-12 curriculum. I later ventured into entreprenuership co-owning and investing in agricultural and construction companies, spending some time away from the classroom and my independent studies. I became a mother recently and have settled down to teach again from my home based practice.
Fun fact about me: I have conservatory level studies in the fine arts, began oil painting at age 6 and taught children and adults oil painting in my adolecence.
