For my tutoring sessions I use skills that include goal-directedness, I teach how to organize learning in small steps and how to set them up; I always strive to motivate and engage my students to make the learning interesting and fun; I also use self-control skills to teach how to avoid distractions and I use different focusing strategies. I have a Master's Degree (2012) in teaching English to speakers of other languages, and Bachelors in Music Education (2010), both from Florida Atlantic University, as well as degree in violin performance from Poland.
I studied piano in Poland for 10 years & taught both piano & violin for over 20 years. I also teach flute & cello for the past 5 years, as I studied them during my Music Education program.

I
teach music for over 24 years using the traditional and Suzuki methods. I am a fan of the Essential Elements 2000 for string instruments, and the Alfred's Piano Library for piano. Alfred's piano library can be used for any age as they also have books especially made for adult learners. I also like their music flash cards.
For teaching music theory I mostly used Master Theory.

I personalize every lesson, and always set goals for my students. Most of my violin students are members of the Florida Youth Orchestra as well as Gold Coast Youth Orchestra and my piano students participate in Pompano Beach competition and the annual Piano Guild auditions.
I teach any age and any level, and always stress that learning a new instrument is very similar to learning a new language, it needs a lot of patience, persistence and repetitions. My lessons are customized to my students needs, and are work in progress as they needs may change over time. I always remind my students that music can give them instant gratification when they learn to play favorite songs.
I always encourage my students to tell me about their music preferences, so I can incorporate them in their music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
All my tutoring sessions include reviews of previously learned material and if possible the use of technology. I use students books but often bring extra study materials if necessary.
All my lessons include: technique: I like to use the Finger Power for piano students and Essential Elements for my string students, and scales for both.
music theory: I use Master Theory or other books such as Hal Leonard's Piano Note spellers & Piano Music Theory books for younger ages, music flash cards to support learning notes and musical terminology, and of course the fun part performance.

Besides Essential Elements 2000 for strings I also use String Tunes and Fiddle Runners to add more fun to the lessons. For piano students I use Holiday Treats book, which comes in 2 different levels: Beginner & Intermediate, so my students have a new songs for a specific holiday.

I always bring violin with me to be able to show what I teach.

*** Travel Equipment ***
The students needs to have their books and assigned material ready for tutoring. Instrumental students needs to have their music books & instrument available as well as a pencil. I always stress with my students to be organized and prepared for their lesson, this way they will be able to focus better during the lesson. I bring my violin with me. I also ask that the room where the lesson takes place to be free of any distractions, such other siblings or any other noise. The quiet environment helps in faster learning.

It is my grasp of foreign languages that makes me an effective English teacher. For instance, learning the complex grammar of Latin and Greek gave me a thorough understanding of English grammar and the ability to relate to other people’s native languages. I have spent many hours proofreading papers for international students. They find my instruction especially informative because I not only fix mistakes but provide an explanation. Accomplishments

As a high school senior, under the tutelage of OSU Profess
or Emeritus and world-renowned pianist George Haddad, I performed the first movement of Shostakovich's Second Piano Concerto with the chamber orchestra.

I performed different self-composed pieces at seven OSU Composers' Workshops and won the Audience Favorite Award at the Johnstone Woodwinds Composition Competition in 2012. My Senior Composition Recital was performed on October 25, 2012. It showcased several of my three-movement works: string quartet, clarinet solo, set of classical songs for piano and voice, set of pop songs for piano and voice. Interspersed with these were two solo piano pieces and a duet for piano and violin.

My background makes me a knowledgeable and effective tutor. I was valedictorian at Delaware Hayes High School in 2009 and received OSU's Maximus Scholarship based on my ACT and SAT scores.

Ben was patient, kind and full of knowledge. He was great at noticing her hand placement and would make visual corrections as well as show her examples of where she should be. For our first online lesson, I was very impressed. We still need to learn more about the technical aspects of being online (example: where to move the output video placement) but I think that just adds to the fun and experience of the whole process.

I would characterize myself as a laid back, fun, and energetic individual which has served me well personally and professionally. I began my studies approximately thirty years ago. During that time I studied at three different universities specializing in music performance (Walla Walla University, Columbia Basin College and Eastern Washington University). I received a masters in social work and a Bachelors in history. While social work is a far cry from music performance, I have found that this particular profession has assisted me substantially in providing a safe and nurturing environment to new and advanced students. I currently play with four symphonies, chamber groups and substitute for other symphonies throughout Washington state. Because I have been through so many audition processes I feel as though I have excellent insight into the process. I would be able to assist my students in a process that can possibly be one of the most stressful events of their professional lives.

My string studies began at the age of age of eight with Jim O'Brian (served in Army orchestra). Following graduation from Kamiakin High School in 1998, I was accepted into the University of Iowa's school of music. However, I decided to stay close to home and study at Columbia Basin College. It was there that I met my next professor Robert Burroughs. My other university string professors included Maria Zlateva (graduated from University of Texas at Austin), Dr. Philip Baldwin, and Dr. John Marshall who is currently principal cellist of the Spokane Symphony.

My style of teaching is the Suzuki method or string basics. I was raised on the Suzuki method and have found that it provides an excellent foundation for string players. Many of my students have found this helpful with their technique and music theory. My youngest student participated in a talent show with their orchestra last year. Through her hard work and determination she was able to gain a substantial amount of information prior to entering junior high.

What sets me apart from other teachers is that I am strictly a viola instructor. Many viola teachers list themselves as violinists as well. I believe this has helped me because I understand the physical and mental challenges that "we" violists face on a daily basis. I feel privileged knowing that very few people can read alto clef and play such a beautiful instrument. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, don't hesitate to ask me a question.

About Hannah
I am a woman of many hats, as you can most likely see by the subjects in which I offer lessons! I am a recent graduate of Simpson College, a small liberal arts school in the Midwest, with a double major in Vocal Performance and Mathematics. I am also a graduate of the International Baccalaureate program in high school, making me a strong writer and communicator. I am currently attending the Boston Conservatory for my Master's of Vocal Performance and I specialize in opera.

My goal is to always give you the most personalized experience possible! Whether it's a voice lesson or a math tutoring session, I cater the entire time to your exact needs and work outside our sessions to make sure I come in as prepared as possible to give you the exact experience you want.

Hannah was the music director at the Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church in Carlisle, Iowa for the past three years, and was a wonderful addition to our congregation! I serve as the pastor of that church, and was always impressed with Hannah's ability to help not only plan the music for worship - this include weekly hymn selections - but also her incredible singing voice and vocal range. She will be missed dearly, and I do not hesitate in the least to recommend her expertise and skills in teaching.
