Hi! I have a degree in Early Music Voice from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, and have studied voice with private teachers intermittently over the past two decades.

I also have a Master's in Cello Performance, and can teach cello at the beginner to upper intermediate level. My experience in teaching is with modern (standard) cello, but I can also teach the basics of baroque cello (with gut strings and a baroque bow). Gut strings can be finicky, but their sound is warm and expressive. If you are interested to know more, just drop me a note! Another instrument I can teach is the Viola da Gamba, a very interesting early 6- or 7-string instrument with gut strings. (That's the instrument I'm holding in my profile picture!)
Aside from music, I have taught English as a Foreign and Second Language (in Bulgaria with Peace Corps,
in New Mexico with Berlitz, at the U. of New Mexico). I would be very pleased to help students of any age with reading, listening comprehension, and writing.

Collins had his first cello lesson with Christien today. He love it! Christien is super patient and very very professional. She corrected Collins' posture and the way to hold the bow. Christine gave very clear instruction, and made the lesson lot of fun.

I am an easy going, knowledgable and creative teacher. I strive to put the students and their personal needs first. I'm very aware that each student/person learns differently and I incorporate various strategies of learning into my lessons. There is a lot of humor and dialogue with my lessons, allowing my students the freedom to be themselves while playing.

As a school teacher, I have lots of experience in building student confidence and knowledge. If you aren't confident then you aren't progressing!

I like to record my students at different intervals of their education so they can hear the progress! I email a lesson recap after every lesson so that the student can see what we learned that week, including any notes/attachments for the student to review.

I also encourage my students to text/email/ or call with any questi
ons/concerns between lessons. This gives my students the ability to get through a challenging or difficult concept/strategy when its happening and not have to wait till the next lesson.

Rob is an amazing teacher! My 6 year old daughter is very energetic, and has challenges staying on task. Rob makes every class fun, and adjusts his style or plan to keep her interested in the guitar lesson. I feel like she has learned a lot in a short period of time. I highly recommend Rob!

No show. I was set up and ready 10 minutes ahead of time, and 15 minutes after we were supposed to start I gave up. No call. no email, nothing. I called him at 6:20 to be told his day was screwed up by a funeral, and I told him my dog ate my homework. Pathetic. I knew I had a lesson, he must have known he had one to give, and no notification whatsoever. I don't do business like this.

Shekkola taught Math and science to my three boys in middle school and her teaching was transformative, since they neither liked math nor were good at it before she began to teach them. All three went on to science careers and two went on to take advanced math courses. Once they joined her class they began to love Mathas did all the children in Shekkola's class - which is practically unheard of. I don't know what her magic is, but I am eternally grateful to her

Despite all the knowledge they may have and all the "how-to" information at their fingertips, many people live their lives as if they were powerless and completely at the mercy of external circumstances. It is true that there are many things that we cannot change. However, even if our circumstances remained the same and the only thing we were able to change was our minds, it could open up a whole new world of opportunity. That is the core reason I decided to become a coach. My name is Michi and my mission is to help individuals become aware and make use of the one, incredibly powerful tool everyone has at their disposal: their own mind.

I earned a B.A. in Philosophy, an M.A. in Psychology, and am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. I also have a background in music. My approach to coaching is heavily influenced
by all of these disciplines, but what makes it unique is that it looks at self-development through the lens of creativity. More specifically, I view the process of pursuing your goals and navigating life's challenges primarily as a creative one. To me, the creative process is a cycle of goal-driven work, creative breakthroughs, and creation (bringing your vision into reality). In music, this might mean noodling around on the piano until you come up with something you like and turn it into a song. In life, this might mean thinking about what you want and what you can do to achieve your goal, and then taking the necessary action steps to succeed. Regardless of the scenario, I view the creative process almost as a natural law: If you put in the work, you will have breakthroughs and you will bring your vision into reality; it is simply a matter of time, discipline, and perseverance. Thus, much of my work with clients revolves around fostering their trust in the creative process.

Practically speaking, this means that, within the context of assisting them with their individual needs, I intend to help all clients:
(1) Shift from an "I can't" mentality to a "how can I?" mentality.
(2) Get to a place where achieving their goals becomes a matter of "when," not "if."
