Professional classically trained singer, Master in Music (Performance Practice) with more than 10 years of all-ages teaching experience and vocal pedagogy studies.
Lyric mezzo-soprano Guadalupe P., a native of Mexico City, has performed internationally on both concert and opera stages. With the Cedros, Arteus and Bellas Artes Chamber Orchestras in Mexico City she has been a soloist in Vivaldi´s Gloria, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Mozart's Requiem, Coronation Mass, and Missa Brevis, and Josep Gaz’s Letanías. In New York City, she created the title roles in La Llorona by Hector Armienta and the short film Maya´s Ark by David Wolfson, both international premiers. She was a featured artist at the Inaugural Gala Concert of the Union City, NJ Performing Arts Center and she sang a concert of arias and duets from zarzuelas, a form she champions

, at Merkin Concert Hall. She has also been a soloist with the New York Virtuoso Singers, performing the John Corigliano song Forever Young in a concert of music by Corigliano and Mark Adamo, prepared with the assistance of the composers, and has performed in Denmark and Sweden as a soloist with the same ensemble. Other favorite opera roles include Charlotte (Werther), Ottavia (L'incoronazione di Poppea), Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Annio (La clemenza di Tito), Proserpina, Speranza and Ninfa (Orfeo), Augusta (The Ballad of Baby Doe) and Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro).
One of Guadalupe's passions is for the performance of works of great artistic value by composers that through the years, for reasons of fashion or accident have been ignored or forgotten. The American Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Leon Botstein is devoted to that cause, and for five consecutive years (2009-2013) at the Bard Summerscape festival, with Botstein conducting and the ASO in the pit, she has been part of the ensemble the New York Times has characterized as “simply exceptional,” in fully-staged productions of Les Huguenots by Giacomo Meyerbeer, Der Ferne Klang by Franz Schreker, Die Liebe der Danae by Richard Strauss, Le roi malgré lui by Emmanuel Chabrier and the Oresteia by Sergei Taneyev.
Guadalupe is also an ardent educator, with a teaching method based on the technique and exercises developed by David Jones, who is also her teacher. She has been involved with musical and vocal training in many different venues, developing and teaching vocal technique seminars and private lessons to more than 50 individual students in Mexico City, at institutions including the National University School of Music and the National Superior Conservatory of Music. She has also served as a vocal coach and/or conductor for multiple children's choruses, including for the Children´s Chorus of Tepozotlán, Mexico, at Trinity Wall Street in Manhattan and at Grace Theatre in Union City, New Jersey. She is continually looking for ways to develop her pedagogical skills as an integral part of her professional singing career.
Guadalupe has been the recipient of scholarships and grants from the Mexican Fine Arts Institute (Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes) and the Mexican National Institute for Culture and the Arts (FONCA), including the Award “Creadores Escenicos” in 2012. She won first prize in the fifteenth annual Francisco Araiza Voice Competition in Mexico City, was a finalist in the International Competition L'Orfeo in Verona, Italy and semifinalist in the tenth Julián Gayarre International Competition in Pamplona, Spain. She also performed as a semifinalist in the thirty-seventh Lyndon Woodside International Solo Competition of the Oratorio Society of New York.

Develop and improve your vocal technique.
Get a bigger sound and wider, fuller range through specific exercises for your voice type.
All styles and levels welcome.
This approach to singing will allow you to comfortably and confidently express yourself musically.
When it comes to private lessons, I adjust to different vocal needs and personalities. Some people need to have fun in the process, some people are more serious . Some people focus and understand music and exercises easily. Some others will need more patience, further explanation, graphic examples and even games. I will do what it takes for someone to get things right and I won't be condescendant, but I'll always be respectful and will recognize and point out every little achievement and step forward. Not only for encouragement proposes, but also for people to realize for themselves what's well done and what path to follow to become better and more independent after every lesson. I like using images and analogies to help the sound and the music happen, but these will be always backed up with objective knowledge on the subject. I believe that everybody (children and adults) is able to understand and achieve a challenge, even though every person might need a different way to get there. I also think that this can be accomplished on the basis of respect by approaching one another in a friendly and why not, fun way too.
I have offered workshops at the Fine Arts Institute in Mexico City with over 50 privet voice students from the music and theatre fields. I have also taught at Greenwich Music House and Third Street Music School in NYC, and I have taught privately in NY for over 6 years. Both, beginners and advanced students show great improvement through the lessons.
I'm currently teaching voice and choral conducting to a group of 60 children 7 to 15 years old at Union City Grace Academy.
I previously coached the adult chorus at the Croatian Church of Saint Cyril & Methodlus located in Times Square, New York, and several children choruses in Mexico as well as performed seminars in vocal technique and its anatomy at institutions such as Fine Arts School of Music, National School of Music and Children's Chorus of Estado de Mexico.

My specialty is Vocal Technique. I approach the understanding of a healthy and advantageous use of the voice from the basic anatomy functions that influence directly the production of the voice. I know a great number of exercises that will put this in practice and reach the utmost beauty and flexibility of each voice depending on individual needs and body disposition.
I also have a life time experience on music theory, especially to start and/or develop sight reading skills for singers. Other instrumentalists welcome too.

After a ten-year hiatus, I decided to take vocal lessons again. I am amazed at my improvement after just three lessons. Guadalupe is patient, understanding, and very knowledgeable when it comes to vocal technique and how to execute it properly. She can teach vocalists of various styles and backgrounds with great ease because she truly understands the physiological, articulatory, and functional properties of the voice. Guadalupe also has great ears. She suggested I see a throat doctor because a few minutes into my first lesson, she heard what she thought was slight vocal information. The following week her suspicions were medically confirmed and now I am getting the proper course of treatment to eliminate this condition. I am very lucky to have her on my side as I get my voice ready for conservatory level study.

My first tutoring experience took place in first grade when I was asked to assist a newly arrived Vietnamese girl with her English. I myself had learned English when I first came to the United States at three years of age and could relate well to some of the issues the newcomer was facing.
A true global nomad, I have lived in Germany, the U.S., Mexico and Russia and have traveled extensively. Starting with English and German, and eventually Spanish, French and Russian, I have been instructing students since 1989 in various countries of a variety of ages in a multitude of informal and formal settings.
In 1990, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Russian Studies from George Mason University. In 1995, I completed my Masters Degree in Secondary Education/Teaching English as a Second Language. After one year of working in a public school

I am tutoring all science subjects from K through 12, and some subjects on a college level as well. Sciences can be hard to understand sometimes, and I am generally able to break down the concepts to make them easier to comprehend, often with the help of manipulatives and hands-on material, such as molecular kits, microscopes, lab experiments, or games.

Thinking About Cramming for a Test? You Might Want to Read This
We've all felt that familiar time crunch when you have a big test coming up. But does cramming for a test the night before actually work? Read on as tutor Danh L. explains why you might want to plan ahead next time... I expect my students to do about 30-60 minutes of homework DAILY. That's 3.5 to 7 hours of work a week. From my exchanges with other tutors, even ones charging up to $500/hour, this estimate is around what they expect, too. But what should you do if you miss a … Read More
