I absolutely love teaching music and believe it one of the most powerful tools of expression. I work to give my students the tools to express themselves, which include repertoire, technique, knowledge of music theory and musicality. I also have extensive experience with the music industry i.e. booking tours, working with publicists, auditioning and more. I am a current Berklee College of Music student, mandolinist, guitairst, pianist, vocalist and songwriter, and have extensive knowledge of music theory, ear training, jazz, funk, brazilian choro, pop, blues, contemporary bluegrass, folk and classical music. I have worked as an assistant teacher for elementary and middle school students and at Berklee’s Global String Intensive, developed a curriculum and taught private lessons on my own, my major at Berklee is Professional Music with focuses in Music Education and Songwriting and I currently run the Berklee Mandolin Orchestra. My 15 year old son is primarily a songwriter and guitar player. He wanted some singing lessons just so he can feel more confident as a vocalist. Joshua has been very pleasant, fairly flexible in terms of scheduling, and has delivered on that confidence. We recommend him!

I have known Gary for a while now, but only recently started taking lessons with him. He is very helpful and professional for every lesson. He answers all my questions and has suggested materials for me to practice in order to improve my playing. I have already learned a lot from the few lessons we have had. I enjoy our lessons and look forward to our next one!

I am young teacher who is enthusiastic about music. I teach VAPA Music in Chula Vista Elementary School District to grades TK-6th. I teach group lessons for piano, ukulele, rhythm, singing, and movement. I play guitar, ukulele, and piano. Piano is my first and favorite instrument to play. I have been playing piano since I was 7 years old and have been a life-long learner. I want to extend my work to teaching private lessons and I feel that I can be a great asset in a student's learning path.

Unfortunately we had only 1 lesson and then were informed the night before our second lesson that the teacher is canceling because it's too far for her to travel. We had already purchased materials she recommended and paid fees to takelessons.com which we have been told are not refundable. This is terrible service. The teacher signed up for lessons knowing what our address was so she could have simply checked her travel time before agreeing. Now we have wasted a lot of our own time and money. I am hesitant to use takelessons again because of the customer service I have received. Why should I pay a placement fee if an instructor can cancel after just one lesson.

Even before my time at Berklee, I spent years striving to put myself into every musical situation possible. This gave me a multi-perspective understanding that allows me to comfortably advise students of all ages and backgrounds regarding several different instruments, styles, and theoretical concepts.

My favorite part about teaching, regardless of discipline, is the fact that it allows me to keep growing and learning while sharing my experiences to help others do the same. So whether you want to work on jazz, pop, or classical, feel free to reach out, and I will happily customize and create the learning environment that you desire!

About Ryan

I am new to TakeLessons! I am a professional pianist, vibraphonist, and percussionist. I recently graduated from Berklee, where I spent much of my time composing, arranging, and performing. I specialize in Jazz, but also frequently help people learn the arts of classical and pop music. Whether

Highly recommend Ryan!

He will take it whatever speed you like and will teach whatever you need. I have learned new things about music theory as well and he makes learning the piano interesting and engaging.

Ryan is awesome! I am a beginner, and Ryan has been so helpful teaching me the basics of notes, key signatures, rhythm, and many other components of piano and music, and we’ve even delved into some music theory. He makes learning fun and easy, and is also flexible with meeting times and can even do lessons over facetime if you can’t make it to his place. He is so talented and welcoming and will make you love piano even more than you already do.
Justin
I took jazz piano lessons with Ryan and he was a great teacher! He drilled a number of fundamentals such as jazz theory, ear training, and improvising which really helped demystify jazz piano for me. Not only does he have a wealth of musical ability, he is also a very kind and patient teacher. I highly recommend taking lessons with Ryan!
