As a musician, I have played and/or competed in solos, duets, quartets, concerts and more. I have studied music theory, written my own music, won scholarships, and taught others.
My students vary in ability from autistic and nonverbal, to English language learners, to gifted and talented. I have taught students in rural, suburban, and urban environments in charter, public, and private schools. My students are from a variety of different cultures, religions, and backgrounds. The similarity they share is being proud of their achievements after working together!
My students typically tell me that I am one of their favorite teachers. I believe every student is capable of achievement, and it is my mission to help them get there. I see students greater than they see themselves, and in sharing this, they end up feeling more confident and empowered themselves. My lessons are fun, relevant, effective, and individualized. I can't wait to partner up with you! Let's make your goals happen!

After studying at the University of Havana, in Cuba, I wrote peer-reviewed research, which was published in the journal "Cuba in Transition." A year later, I was awarded a Fulbright grant to teach and conduct research in Montevideo, Uruguay. There, I worked with the U.S. Embassy to create a series of new language courses in public schools.
I speak and write fluently in Spanish. But as a native English speaker, I've learned the Spanish language from the ground up, just like my students.
For both English and Spanish I am an expert in test prep, essay composition, IB/AP, and SAT II.

I am a prolific author who has written thirteen books. I achieved a five on the AP Language exam before graduating high school and scored perfect in the English section of the SAT. My education includes a bachelor's degree from Louisiana Tech University.
Essays are practice for real life. Before the internet, those real-life applications were usually professional in nature. After social media, however, writing became an integral part of social interaction. A good writer can sound clearer, more effective, and make a bigger impression on the internet, and this has real social consequences.
My method of teaching will focus on everyday applications of English skills, like the ones described above. I believe that, if a student knows that what they are learning will be of use to them, they will try harder and learn better. That's my ethos, and I will do the best I can with it.
