I currently work for and have been extensively trained by The VIPKID organization where, over the internet, I teach children from China to speak English. I have won praise from both my students and their parents for my empathetic and patient approach.

About Amy
I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldekrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I received a B.A. For comparative literature and creative writing at the State University of New York at Purchase and I am currently studying for a masters in social work at Walden University.
I believe, within all of us, Is the ability to express something distinctive and original. I work to help the student discover their individual and unique voice, weather it be through singing, acting or writing. I share with my students tools to gain the ability and con
fidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges students may face when pursuing a life in the creative and performing arts, having worked professionally in those arena's for most of my adult life. I believe, it is the teachers job to respect each students individual process of learning.
My students have gone on to become recording artists, Broadway performers, movie actors, blues and cabaret artists and published writers.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the students individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal exercise come next, then when the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that the student be part of the process of picking material since the more they personally respond to the material the more apt they are to be engaged in their lessons and the more quickly they will learn. After three to six months they will understand the fundamentals of breathing and relaxation and its importance to proper vocal training. They will have begun the process of extending their range and will understand the principles of performance in song.
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the must compelling.

*** Studio Equipment ***
home- 10 minutes away from Manhattan with piano, seating for parents
-practice studio seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a piano, cd/mp3 player and an large library of songbooks to work from. The student should bring sheet music of songs they want to work on and a recording device.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching how to sing rock, pop, musical theater, jazz, and blues without hurting the voice as well as method acting instruction.

The Pedagogical Foundations Of EnglishCentral

By David Deubelbeiss

EnglishCentral is a company that takes pride in having experienced teachers on staff and designing a product that will help students learn and acquire English, particularly for international communication.

Too often technology is designed without the control or voice of educators. Technology for technology's sake. We have tried to avoid this error and build an e-learning platform that puts pedagogy and learning first.

Here are the key aspects of English Central's pedagogy:

1. Motivation.

We live in a visual and digital world. Students consume enormous amounts of video content and video has become the new textbook. EnglishCentral harnesses this built in, intrinsic level of motivation - why not learn English while viewing videos you love? EnglishCentral publishes 30 new video lessons per week and its vast library of video lessons and courses offers every student the chance to study what they want and listen to messages they want to hear.

2. Comprehensible Input

Not only do students need to listen to messages they want to hear - these messages must be level appropriate (Krashen, 2001). Each EnglishCentral video lesson or course plus our vocabulary is leveled and can be assigned to students based on their level of English. This provides appropriate practice maximizing language acquisition.

3. Precise, Timely Feedback

EnglishCentral provides instant feedback to students. Students begin to "notice the gap" (Schmidt, 1990) and begin to self-correct as they compare their speech to the original. Tools are provided so students can "dig down" and understand the language and get the answers they need immediately. EnglishCentral works to promote learner autonomy.

4. Lowered Affective Filter

Many students go through a substantial "silent period" (Krashen, 1985). Others need the time and space given through self-study before they are ready to excel in the very socially demanding classroom. EnglishCentral provides a safe, low anxiety environment where learners can proceed at their own pace and practice speaking in a non-threatening place. Teachers are often amazed how the quiet students in their class "bloom" on EnglishCentral.

5. An Oral Language Focus

The 21st century workplace and global nature of communication demands that students have strong speaking skills. The importance of written communication is receding. EnglishCentral's proprietary speech recognition system IntelliSpeech™ trains students to produce, clear, intelligible speech for effective communication across cultures and borders.

6. Blended Learning

The future of education lies in blended learning (Arne Duncan, 2014). EnglishCentral partners with schools and teachers offering a unique blended learning model and platform. Courses and video lessons can perfectly compliment what students learn in class, providing students with extra practice matching the class curriculum. Our free LMS lets teachers extend the curriculum and track student achievement.

7. Structured Learning

Our simple Watch | Learn | Speak methodology provides low cognitive overload and an easy to follow learning pathway. Courses and video lessons are leveled and vocabulary is presented with spaced-time repetition. EnglishCentral monitors every word or expression students study and provides a simple interface where students can use the feedback to improve their pronunciation and build their vocabulary.

8. Gaming

Students are highly engaged by the gaming dynamics of EnglishCentral. Students compete for XPs (Experience Points) and ranking through their study. However, we don't go overboard and aim to keep the focus on the learning, not the gaming.

9. Ambiguity Tolerance

Language is a vast and unpredictable space. Successful language learners are risk takers. Critical to being a risk taker is having a strong ability to not be stressed out by what you don't understand (Brown, 2007). EnglishCentral provides authentic content that challenges students to focus on the general meaning and gist and strengthen their level of ambiguity tolerance.

About Erol G.

Panorama City, CA

I have 5-7 years experience teaching English at public and private educational settings, including college, university, and library. My specialization is in American English accent reduction for non-native speakers. I use multi-media teaching strategies.

About Erol

My style and attitude toward teaching tends to be conversational, reflective, and interactive, along the lines of current research on effective education. I have developed a talent with certain creative arts, such as imaginative writing and electronic music production; as a result, I am computer literate, capable of assisting with computer assembly, maintenance, and design, as well as productivity software. Due to my limited funds, I do not have direct experience with the Adobe suite, but I have extensive knowledge of related, free distributions that are transferable. I also have formal education in the field of English, innovative leadership, and Education.
My current level is ABD in a PhD program. I am almost done.

My most popular subjects are as follows:

American-English Pronunciation Practice for ESL (AEPP-ESL):
*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

Carefully following Burkkowsky's (1969) multi-media method, I have taught this subject for over five years for public and private causes, such as library, individuals, and language schools. My emphasis for pronunciation is a scientific, comprehensive overview and treatment of the various sounds, rhythms, inflections, and patterns the spoken language integrates. I encourage practicing and mastering both the sounds themselves, as well as how the sounds are connected and contextualized. I use contemporary sound recording and .wav editing software to involve audio feedback and self-monitoring.

Sources: Burkkowsky, Mitchess (1969) Teaching American Pronunciation to Foreign Students. New York: Warren Green, 1969.

German Language and Culture:
*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

I have grown up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. I attended, also, a German public secondary school, where I earned a diploma, and I completed college-level German credits. I taught German in the language lab of a community college, for special needs students, and for private agencies, such as Tutor Doctor. My emphasis is on a comparative introduction of the language to draw out a common ground and familiarize possibly daunting differences. I also enjoy asserting that German is often underestimated as a rewarding second language to study.

Microsoft Excel:
***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***

This spreadsheet and data management software program is of crucial, pivotal importance in any business and financial environment. The program enables efficient and prompt development of arithmetic and statistical calculations of vast data sets. It also helps to visualize and juxtapose related or even discrepant variables. My approach to teaching the program is cumulative and holistic, starting with an introduction to personal inventory management to the processing of large data sets using pivot tables, charts, and dashboards. My emphasis is on making the program as intelligible and transparent as possible to avoid frustration and intimidation. I use a lot of examples and visuals that are readily available.

***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***

I teach the touch-typing method that is the convention for most journalistic and input-intensive organizational settings. I teach the home row, proper finger and hand positions, proficiency with left and right hands, as well as posture and concentration methods. I enrich the teaching with resources from the web, such as speed-building and error reduction.

Experience, enthusiasm, and expertise describe me as a teacher. In addition to my training in Linguistics, Translation, Intercultural Communication and TESOL, I bring to the table 17 years of experience teaching English in a variety of contexts to a variety of students. I have taught middle and high school students craving attention and fun, business professionals striving for promotion, college students aspiring to study abroad, and PhDs polishing their communication skills. I will not overwhelm you with lots of talk and information; I will make YOU the center of each session. Regardless of the skills you want to practice (no kongfu though :)), I will do my best to accommodate your needs. As a person, I am efficient but friendly, serious but humorous, a challenger but an encourager. And, I look forward to working with you.

About Elena
As a current teacher at an intensive English program in Georgia, USA, I have taught grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking to students raging from 18 to 60 years old. Most of my current students are preparing to apply to colleges in English-speaking countries or are improving their English to return back to their home countries better qualified for professional growth. Due to the nature of what I have been doing recently, I am very comfortable working with students who have academic and professional goals such preparation for TOEFL or IELTS, practice for business presentations, or technical writing. However, I have had experience and am also pretty comfortable working on more general goals such as daily conversation, US culture, reading for content, etc.

Here is my philosophy is teaching in a very very brief form: I am a
big believer in needs analysis and diagnostic. Before any goals are set, it is imperative to understand the student's background, aspirations for the future, and proficiency level. Additionally, I believe that setting tangible goals drives improvement and increases motivation and is necessary for both teachers and students. Finally, feedback, feedback, feedback! Intonation or vocabulary usage, personalized and specific feedback is what my students get and love.

As far as methodology goes, I am pretty eclectic. Again, methods and approaches are chosen based on students' needs. Sometimes we just have to work on drilling sounds and intonation or some simple grammar concepts like “do/does”, while at other times open conversation is the best way to practice the same content. One key component that doesn’t change is the focus on the student. I work hard on planning my lessons so that my students do most of the work during class. I also strive to contextualize everything around real life by choosing materials that are recent and relevant.

Elena is my best teacher. I would like to share my experience with other students who are struggling with writing essays.

First, as far as an academic part is concerned, I learned how to brainstorm for starting to write an essay quickly and fast.
Like other students, I don't waste a lot of time on brainstorming and making up for supporting details. However, Elena taught me ways of generating ideas quickly as well as making supporting examples of the ideas more stronger.
Therefore, I can write essays in 30mins which are needed in TOEFL Also, in other section in TOEFL such as speaking, I can save my time to do brainstorming by using the same method that I learned from Elena.

Second, as a teacher, Elena has advised me with patiently.
I am not good at expressing my opinions to teachers much. However, whenever I challenged learning English as a second language and was depressed of too slowly building my English skills, she spent time with me, listen to my problem carefully, and encourage me to study hard. Thus, I could get back my confidence.

Through Elena's tutoring, because I can feel that she supports me academically and emotionally, I would like to say my best teacher is Elena.
