Hello!
Hola!
Привет!

My name is Katya. I've been teaching Spanish, English and Russian (as a Foreign Language) to adults and children for many years. I am a native Russian speaker, a classical pianist, singer and professional educator. I received my degree in piano performance and pedagogy in 1992, and have been teaching since then. I have lived (and taught) all over the world, and I love what I do.
I speak and write fluently in English and Spanish, but as a native Russian speaker, I had to learn English, Spanish (Portuguese, French, Italian and Mandarin) languages from the ground up, just like my students, so I understand very well the challenges of learning a language. I have structured a specific approach that incorporates tricks and shortcuts. Little things you can do to bring the language into your everyday life... these little things that accumulate and make the whole experience of learning a language much easier and more natural. I consider myself a language ...

Katya has been giving online lessons to my two children, ages 14 and 12, for the past 6 months. Before this, the children received in person lessons from Katya for 3 years. Katya is an excellent pianist and piano tutor. She is patient and kind. She always looks for ways to motivate the different skill levels. She is very talented and sparks in children the love for learning and becoming avid at playing piano. Katya also gave piano lessons to other children from the same school my children attended and they all loved the piano lessons with Katya. I highly recommend Katya as a knowledgeable and loving piano instructor.

I have over 5 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I specialize in input-based learning using English print and electronic media. I've published my own web-based English curriculum on my website.

I use SRS (spaced-repetition-software) to help students permanently memorize lots of new English on digital multimedia flashcards.

I help students overcome poor study habits that slow down learning. Every student should be able to learn to speak English like a native speaker in 1-3 years.

As a non-native speaker of English, I struggled to learn the English Language on my own. It was very difficult; however, with hard work and persistence, I managed to learn the language and became proficient at it. Furthermore, my experience in language acquisition led me to tutor students from various non-English speaking countries with difficulties in pronunciation, reading and writing, while pursuing my BA and MA at Brooklyn College University. I rose from my position as Tutor to a Master Tutor/Professor's Assistant. One of the biggest rewards to me is to be able to give back by making other's journey into language acquisition as easy and effective as possible.

About Catalina

Loving what I do is what makes me an effective and popular Spanish Teacher/Tutor. As a Native Speaker of the target language, I had to learn English. Having had that experience, has helped me to relate to the difficulty involved in language acquisition and to become more compassionate with my stu

My daughter absolutely loves Ms. Catilina. She is extremely nice, has patience , informative, enthusiastic (great energy) and all and all a well rounded individual. She works at the pace of your child or self, and is there every step of the way. There is a balance with teaching and incorporating a little fun. I couldn’t have picked a better Spanish teacher. I highly recommend.
Crystal T.
I was so happy with my lessons. When I mentioned anything I wanted to learn more on, We did it the very next scheduled lesson. I had been learning on my own but lacked the confidence speaking with people, besides my boyfriend. As the lessons went on, I was building that up and now I am confident and excited to be speaking more Spanish with everyone.

I’m really enjoying learning Spanish and feel I’ve already improved even after just 3 lessons! Catalina is encouraging and patient. She is intuitive and goes at my pace.

I already had an advanced level of English, however I still needed to work on some of the nuances and prepositions in the language. Bryce has helped me immensely. I have started to teach English to others as my level has improved even more. I now feel confident teaching others English as a second language."

The Complete List of English Idioms, Proverbs, & Expressions

Although English idioms don't make sense at first, these unique expressions (together with proverbs) add substance and humor to our conversations. The Oxford Dictionary defines the word "idiom" as a: "group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words (e.g. over the moon, see the light)." This means that English idioms should not be taken literally, because their meaning is metaphorical. You don't really wish someone would “break a …
