James and I worked together for 4 months at an elementary school tutoring 3-5 graders in math and english. James is professional, intelligent, and creative. It was a pleasure working with him. He cares very much for the youth in our community.
We've stayed in touch via email and are developing a friendship I hope lasts a life time. He is good people.

I understand the difficulties of learning English, especially when coming from a completely different language such as Mandarin Chinese or Cantonese. As I learn more about the Chinese language, I've learned how to break the communication and cultural barriers.

I'd love to help improve English speaking, writing, communication, and overall understanding of the English language, specifically tailored for native Chinese speakers.

About Marwan
I started playing piano when I was 3, and began writing music at the age of 6. I've taught music and piano for over 12 years, and tutoring other subjects for over 5 years.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I graduated from Cornell University in Electrical & Computer Engineering, with a minor in Music.

As a student, I was President of the Cornell Piano Society for 4 years. I spent much time teaching piano and music theory to fellow Cornell students, faculty, and staff. I've also organized many concerts, recitals, and events during my tenure.

After college, I went on to work for Intel & Apple as an engineer, while continuing to teach and tutor on the side. Later on, I founded my own startup company centered around Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and unmet needs in the B2C market.

I typically travel
to each student's home for lessons. I travel all around the Bay Area: as far north as Richmond, as far south as Los Gatos, as far East as Livermore (and every place in between, including the Peninsula).

I'm very impressed with the quality and care of instruction Marwan has been providing my 5.75 year old son. He's able to keep him engaged and focused for an hour long piano lesson each week. Marwan's style is highly relational, and it's evident in how excited my son is to see him every week. Marwan's teaching methods have been effective, and my son has been making fantastic progress. I highly recommend Marwan as a children's piano teacher!

Marwan has been teaching my two boys (8 and 10) and me piano in our home weekly for the last two months, and he is doing a tremendous job of it so far. He is great at explaining things, at understanding how to meet each student where he is, and at keeping everyone motivated and making progress. He is professional, punctual, responsive, fun to be around, and an all around excellent teacher. Thank you, Marwan.

I teach because it allows me to share my love of learning. I'm most satisfied when I can awaken a new interest in a “boring” subject or show a student a new way of looking at a problem. I get excited when students tell me that they see connections that weren't there before or that they finally understand something that has always baffled them. I try to bring passion to everything I teach, and I work hard to push my students to their highest potential.

About Amber
I have been teaching private lessons since 2008, but have been studying music since I was only 4 with non stop private and in school lessons. I now have my Bachelor's degree in Music education and am working toward my Masters in Music performance and Instruction.

I love working with my students. Watching them succeed at what they do is what makes my day great. I always love to have a fun atmosphere around me and enjoy every minute it. Music is great for self expression a great Escape or an easy pass-time. It's nothing that should be stressful, but the opposite and that is what my lessons aim to do. Provide an educational, but fun and expressive learning experience to carry with you or your child throughout your lives.

As someone who needed to learn other languages, I can assist anyone whose native language is not English to become more proficient, or gain better conversational skills. My specialty is interview prep. I worked in IT, in marketing, have an MBA, interviewed candidates and been interviewed myself - so I can share insights with my students.

About Diane
Bonjour! Hello! Hallo!

I have been teaching on and off for many years, usually on a one-to-one basis; I taught teenagers and adults. I tailor my lessons to each student's individual needs and I am always ready to go above and beyond the basic lesson. I try to make learning a language fun and alive, through news, stories, and songs.

My method is to provide grammar (very important in French), vocabulary, conversation, reading, and translation in every lesson, and show how important each component is to the whole. I am overjoyed when my students start conversing without need for translation - even if there are errors!

My graduate educational background is in architecture, followed by an MBA in finance. My mother tongue is English; but I learned French at the age of nine when I attended my first French school. I have a French high s
chool diploma (Baccalauréat) and architecture degree, and I am certified to grade French exams from A1 through C1 (university level). Currently I teach after-school, coordinate a museum visit program (en français) and manage a French exam center.
I also attended high school in Germany, in a German high school, for several years, so I am fluent and am now also teaching. Learning languages was a necessity in my childhood. I love to learn, even if by adulthood, it is more difficult to become fluent in a new language. I think the fact of being a lifelong learner helps me better understand my students' needs.

As an avid reader since childhood, my spelling has always been excellent, and I worked as a proofreader. I look forward to helping my students reach their language goals.

I have tutored English students from kindergarten through adult. I am a certified ESL teacher, so whether English is your first, second or third language I can help. My goals as an English teacher are to help you thoroughly understand what you read and to be able to express that understanding through speaking and writing. Whether a student is reading Dr. Suess, Dostoyevsky or Darwin, my goals as a teacher are the same.

I tailor my lessons individually to each student. I help you learn the way you learn best, and I teach you strategies to expand your English abilities. I would be happy to provide a free consultation to discuss English tutoring with you.

About Marie
I have been an educator for more than ten years. In that time, I've taught and tutored English, Language Arts and Spanish to students from elementary to PhD level. I also help students study for the SAT, ACT and TOEFL tests and coach students through the college and graduate school application process. I love teaching and learning. I am patient, enthusiastic and dedicated to my students.

My teaching philosophy can be summed up in a few words : learning should be fascinating, individualized and fun. Helen Keller said, “ A well-educated mind will always have more questions than answers.” My goal is to help my students ask the questions that will lead them to deeper understanding. The poet Mark Van Doreen said, “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.” In our lessons, I will help you make discoveries that will inspire you
to keep learning.

When I’m not teaching, I love reading, exploring the California coast, writing poetry and singing loudly.
