I've had a book published and have written for a multi-national newspaper. I also got A grades right up until I finished college with English Literature and Creative Writing. I also have done numerous public speaking engagements and have studied acting and theatre with A grades all the way through college.

My style of teaching is very relaxed and informal, I want students to feel they can be equals with me, and gain confidence and be proud of their work. I set homework but I also encourage students to get creative in their own time and to show initiative! Reading is vital to growing your knowledge and also for confidence and speaking in public.

Lessons can involve looking at literature and different styles of writing, as well as finding something that sparks the imagination and interest. I work especially well with young teens and pre-teens, as well as those who are looking to further their reading skills.

I also look at Shakespeare and modern plays, as well as screenplays, ...

I have been teaching and tutoring for over five years, and my goal is to help students gain understanding of the problems they solve: I do not teach them simply how to solve problems, but why those problems can be solved in those particular ways. I want to enable students to become problem solvers who think logically and creatively.

About Wes

I am trained in philosophy (B.A., University of North Texas, and M.A., Biola University) and have been teaching/tutoring for over five years in math, reading, writing, SAT/ACT, and critical thinking/problem solving. I have taught a wide range of ages, from elementary to graduate students, and in cl

Having earned a 4 on the AP literature and composition test and being a current English major, there is nothing I enjoy more than teaching students the art of writing while also showing them how to read and interpret passages in a timely manner. Students can expect to be pushed to their full academic potential as I teach them everything they need to know to ace their class and the AP test.

All humans need to have an understanding of Philosophy, in my opinion. Studying Philosophy teaches us how to think critically, how to reason, and how to live an "examined life."

Philosophy is a multi-dimensional subject that includes ethical theory (what is the right thing to do and why?), logical reasoning (is it correct to reach a conclusion based on these facts?), and metaphysics (addressing the huge "who am I?" "why am I here?" "what happens when I die?' questions.)

For many thousands of years, humans have understood that our individual evolution needs a framework, a foundation upon which our ever-busy minds can depend on for grounding. Now, in our world where technology allows immediate distortions of reality, of facts, we need to know how to think clearly.

And, most importantly, I believe that studying Philosophy can be FUN! Come join me as we explore all the ways to apply our reasoning abilities.

My name is Edie Sheeks. I teach English fluency and Philosophy lessons. I enjoy reading, walking, traveling, having dinner with friends. My household includes a large, greyhound-mix dog--my walking trainer!--and two tabbies (all three are rescues). Listening to music, walking by the sea, and being

"Colin is absolutely amazing teacher!
Last time I studied math was 20+ years. I am 40 years old and about to finish my second degree CRJ, and like many others I left math class at the end. Taking the math prep test (which I failed) placed me almost in kindergarten..Lol! and I knew I needed help to re-learn math. I am so happy Colin answered my request (I sent 15 requests, and only 2 teachers answered). I wanted to start eating the study guide provided by CSN and just focus on the topics, but Colin wanted to show me the "why we have numbers, type of numbers, etc" definitely I wanted to fly before I could walk, and I am so grateful he had a different plan............because IT MAKE SENSE!
I mentioned I prefered to have a lobotomy (siks!) instead of facing math in my 40's because I never had a chance to understand math, I just digested the fact I was going to fail and obtain an "s" for grade. I am looking forward to like, learn, and comprehend math with Colin's help so I can graduate in December 2018.
Thanks Colin :)"

"After speaking to multiple tutoring companies, we discovered Matthew. Matthew was very professional and made my son feel comfortable. They had a total of 5 tutoring sessions covering Math, English, Science and Reading. My son took the ACT after his tutoring sessions and scored a 23. We were very pleased with the progress our son made by going from an ACT score of 19 to 23 after only 5 sessions with Matthew. I would highly recommend Matthew J. Horwich to anyone needing tutoring."
