I have been singing and studying voice for over 23 years since I was a child! *** Lesson Details ***
I do my absolute best to create a positive atmosphere for my students. Even when the students feel frustrated or stressed, it is important to inspire them and give them the fuel that they need. Though I am strict when it comes to homework and their about their studies. Every lesson at the beginning I will review what we learned previously and test them.
then begin with proper breathing technique exercises, the cornerstone of all vocals. We move on to vocal exercises to condition the voice. Then we work on the songs that you are eager to sing!

I will use a piano when doing vocal warm ups and conditioning exercises. Students that play other instruments and accompany themselves when performing (such as a guitar) are encouraged to bring that instrument to their lessons. My goal is for them to gain the knowledge that they need to help reach their artistic goals.
With all my lessons every student will be taught a basic run down of Music Theory. My students will always progress in what they do. They will have the discipline that they need and yet have fun and be filled with inspiration. Which is the most important thing, to be Inspired to do better.

I do have a portable keyboard. Though I do expect the student to have their own recording device and karaoke tracks. At Home I do have a studio, and if the students has an iPod or an Mp3 player I can attach it to a device where all of us can hear the tracks. I do have a recording studio as well.

I specialize in Musical Theatre, and Pop rock genres. When I teach my students I always have them learn a song of another language whether it's Spanish or Japanese. It helps with diction when they learn a song outside the English Language. Also It helps them to learn another Language at the same time. Also I give them a little anatomy class when they are learning how to sing. I give them a model of the vocal Chords and different areas of the Larynx and which part works for the chest voice and the head voice.

Crystal brings a lifetime’s experience of professional musicianship to each of her lessons. Born into a family of musicians, she sang her first solo at age 2. She also benefits her students with an extraordinarily diverse musical background, having worked as a vocalist in gospel, country, musical theater, jazz, classical, rock, pop and soul styles. Her performing career has taken her from L.A. church meetings to London’s Houses of Parliament.

Crystal hails originally from Los Angeles, CA - where her musical parents gave her a head start by including her in the family business the moment she was able to contribute. She went on to study classical voice, piano and music theory at The Boston Conservatory of Music. After concluding her studies in London, she returned home and began working regularly as a theater performer, appearing in twen
ty world premiers and re-imagined classics. Most notably she played the lead role of Keely Smith in the big band jazz musical “Louis and Keely: Live At The Sahara” during its eight-month run at Westwood’s Geffen Playhouse. She also formed her own rock band, The Honeysuckle Jones Revival, with whom she performed her own songs all over Los Angeles. And she began working as a studio session vocalist, providing demo vocals for other songwriters, as well as arranging and performing back-up vocals for original artists, including Laura Roppe (currently in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Uncharted list of emerging artists.) Crystal played the lead role of Brooke in the new operatic rock musical “The Burning Opera LA” during its Los Angeles run in 2011 as well as providing ensemble vocals and playing piano and bass. She also performs holiday tunes from the Golden Age of American songwriting with musical quartet The Sleigh Belles.

Crystal believes that music is serious business but that it should be fun. She encourages her students to play music they love, as well as expanding their musical knowledge. She is a firm believer in basics first and emphasizes theory and technique as the tools to support creativity and provide freedom, power and control. She believes effort beats talent every time and the student who practices consistently will see results, whatever their level of ability. Most of all, she believes we were all born to make music.

Lesson structure varies depending on the student's instrument, age, level of experience and musical style. However, all lessons focus on:

After 3 or 6 months of consistent lesson attendance and practice, students will have a clear understanding of how their instrument works and how to care for it. They will be able to read basic music notation. They will be working toward clearly defined musical goals and they will have at least three performance pieces learned.

Great piano instructor

Crystal is an amazing piano instructor. She is patient, understanding and dedicated. My daughter has learned so much from her. My daughter’s love for music has increased immensely since learning how to play the piano. This would never have been able to be accomplished without Crystal’s professional and caring teaching style.

Amazing singng instructor

Crystal has increased my daughter’s self-esteem and expressiveness through song. My daughter is now writing her own poetry and song lyrics, as well as being able to combat her once shyness quality. She loves to perform in front of others now and has a confidence level that amazes me, especially now that she is going into those “teen” years. With my two Bachelor's degrees in Music Composition and Technology, I began tutoring students in piano, voice, and composition as it was part of my training. I use a wide variety of techniques to sing, play piano and other instruments. Techniques include straight vowel singing (no words) to test how long to hold notes, using color to help people sight read, using improvisational techniques in order to play jazz, rock, classical and many other styles of music.
I use what they student has under his or her belt as a starting point to see what lessons we could start them on.
I also assist with online lessons to make transportation a thing of the past. If you've got a webcam or Skype, I can do long-distance lessons with you! So, I am here to help!

I worked at a Kumon math and reading tutoring center for three years. I love helping children with their schoolwork, especially those in the elementary grades. Elementary (K-6th)

Phonics
I am qualified to teach phonics because I have worked at a reading tutoring center for three years and have been able to help students between ages three to ten improve their reading skills. I taught a three year old to recognize all of the letters of the alphabet out of order and we are currently working on understanding all letter sounds. I use a lot of worksheets and repetition so students can recall what they have learned very quickly. I also like to use hands on activities and games.

Reading
I am qualified to tutor students in reading because I have worked at a reading tutoring center for almost three years. I have helped students learn to read by working with them through both one on one and group instruction. I have worked with reading students between the ages of three to 13. I really enjoy teaching students in the lower grades and seeing them grow from learning their ABCs, to knowing letter sounds, and then blending sounds to form words. Each of these steps is important for students to master so they can form a strong foundation and confidence in reading.

Study Skills
I am qualified to teach study skills because I have always been a very good student in school and have been able to maintain a high grade point average. I have learned how to manage my time and how to study for tests. I have never turned in a late assignment as I know my limitations and how to distribute my time to the tasks that need to be completed.

Each lesson changes as students learn new material. For some of the students I have tutored, I have helped them sharpen their skills by revisiting topics. For other students, the lessons have been for test preparation or homework help. I like to use a lot of repetition because I feel that repetition allows students to really learn and understand what they are working on.

I tried different learning centers and other similar programs through the school to help my child meet her academic needs and improve her school performance, but she was still facing a lot of difficulties. I can honestly say that I prayed for a tutor/teacher like Ms. Megan. She is simply the best. She has such a positive and encouraging approach to teaching. This wonderful unique individual thinks outside the box. She was able to identify the areas that my child was having difficulties in right away. We dreaded the school year before meeting Ms. Megan. At the end of the school, my child received not only the usual attendance award, but I 'm so happy and proud to say that she also received 3 academic achievement awards. I am currently a math major and I have finished math classes all the way to transformation geometry (proof-based). Currently, I'm enrolled in number theory. I have gotten mostly A's and B's in my math classes. I am able to help out students of any age up to Multivariable Calculus 2. I am also able to travel at most 15 miles out of my city (Rancho Cucamonga and San Bernardino) and am very patient when it comes to teaching math, as I understand it can be a difficult and frustrating subject.

Ms. Qi is a very accessible and diligent teacher. My son can be difficult, but she found ways to quickly connect with him and get him to open up. She accommodated his need for assistance with his regular work, but encouraged us to "start again" with Chinese which is probably a good idea. Very much appreciate her experience and enthusiasm.
