About Marsha
The Recital was fabulous- thanks for all your work.

Goals: Since I am also a Life Coach, we really focus on how to accomplish our hopes and desires. We begin by weekly, then monthly and even a yearly goal.

Each week we also focus on something in my STUDENT PAL - mnemonic. Another is TECHNIQUE. Technique is the ability to have proper position, wrist-lifts and finger curve as well as Theoretic knowledge and application.

I started giving out lickable gold stars, you know, the old-fashioned kind? They are for those students who mark their lesson sheet and come prepared... They really seem to enjoy that, and I adore the nostalgia!

It is a great week when students are nearly all prepared and ready for their lessons. This makes both Coach and student more effective and the time together more enjoyable.

Perhaps you are reading
this with both a little excitement and a little concern. Finding the right person for your or your student can be intimidating. A short introduction follows so that you know a little about me and my philosophy which can assist you make an informed decision. If we are a good fit, lessons and learning progress more joyfully.

I have been teaching music, performing music and enjoying music since I was a tiny three-year old. My first piano lessons were at age seven. I have since taught the students of former students! How fun is that?

Music has blessed my life in countless ways and given me opportunities I'd never dreamed of. Teaching at the Young Artists Conservatory of Music; Singing in Carnegie Hall, Performing across Europe and teaching the best students for over 25 years has been a delight.

I believe strongly that those who spend their time and resources for musical education are some of the brightest and most intelligent people around. Each of my students have their own individual goals and reasons for taking music lessons, which we revisit monthly. I believe that my role is to be a support and tool for them/you to accomplish the goals set, working with music that delights and educates.

You want the best teacher, who offers information, example, practice and performance opportunities and then gets out of the way of the student's own "voice" (whether playing or singing) so that they can be free to create their own style.

*** Lesson Details ***
In our lessons, we work with a predictable schedule of balance. We have weekly exercises to make strong fingers and or voices, and technique and theory practice to hone skills that will improve our performances, whether they are for others or for our own benefit. Each student of piano can learn how to create and write their own music in time, choose their own pieces to work on, and have a say in their classical and performance goals.

We have a program of advancement, so you and your loved ones can visually see your progress and measure your skills, complete with awards and trophies.

What you learn, has everything to do with your commitment. Practice doesn't make perfect, Practice makes permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect.

Learning the piano ought to be a JOY. I believe in playing the piano, not 'practicing' it. Enjoy what you do, and you'll do it longer and with celebration instead of duty.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano - upright; CD player; Music stands; Dozens of music books and lesson materials; flash cards; computer and music writing program; mic and mirror, syllabus.

*** Travel Equipment ***
No travel.

*** Specialties ***
Over the years I have dabbled in most methods, but finally come to use my own syllabus and musicianship. I can easily adapt to your favourite if that is your desire. I specialize in a total music education, not merely in learning notes. It is like looking in a mirror and only seeing eyes and skin. Music has many facets and we discover all of them.

About Natalie
Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, at the age of 9, Natalie knew music was something that was just a part of who she was. Writing songs on the piano before lessons could be scheduled, Natalie found herself immersed in a medium that would bring her joy for the rest of her life.

By age 14 Natalie had won several trophies competing in Classical piano with the Illinois Music Association.

As an adult, she would go on to fill her life with the world of music as a singer, songwriter, performer and recording artist.

Graduating from Elmhurst College (1997) with a Bachelor's in Music, Natalie received high accolades earning a membership in the Lambda Sigma Psi Music Honor Society.

During her college years, Natalie created and owned a local music publication called, "The Local Buzz". At this moment she had discovered her
desire to teach. "I just wanted everyone I knew in music to know and use what I was learning, or had learned from the music classes, professionals I had been meeting and working with, and my overall music life experiences". By 1997, Natalie was signed to an independent label and embarked on a new adventure.

"Music is an adventure, but without the foundation and passion I had as a child, I would have never landed where I did. I truly LOVE to teach and share what I know about piano, and the world of music. Music is what I know, and know best. Helping to create a solid foundation and build confidence in someone embarking on a journey in music is the most rewarding profession I have ever had the honor of participating in."

*** Lesson Details ***
Natalie enjoys teaching students of any age, but specializes in piano, voice and beginning guitar, tailoring lessons to each individual's goals and reasons for learning whether it be for personal pleasure or professional performance.

Keeping things lighthearted and fun, Natalie breathes confidence into each student using her sense of humor, and down-to-earth personality.

Feeding off 40 years of personal and professional experiences, Natalie patiently listens to the student's desires, needs and notates their learning patterns, allowing for growth at their own pace.

Natalie's goal is to Make Music Matter to you and create a foundation that will allow you to continue to find joy in making music for the rest of your life.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Designated music space in the living room with a Spinet piano, guitars, bluetooth powered speakers, karaoke equipment, microphones and comfortable seating.

Susan is a wonderful French teacher both for adults and kids. We have had her as an in-home teacher for both over the past few years during the school year. She is very patient with the kids and keeps it fun for them, and also is a great conversationalist with the adults. I can’t recommend her enough. She is also versatile enough to teach German as well.

About Ulyana
My name is Ulyana and I'm passionate about teaching and tutoring! I graduated with a B.S. from Rice University (Houston, TX), specializing in earth sciences (geology and chemistry). I did my Masters in planetary geology at Brown University (Providence, RI), and for my PhD, I trekked over 1500 miles in Nepal, studying glacial lake flooding hazards to Sherpa villages, as well as impacts of pollution on pristine high mountains, including Mt. Everest.

For seven years now, I have either tutored or taught, in classrooms and in the field, all age groups, sharing the joy of science, math - and learning in general! When I was in my teens, I participated in many science fairs and symposia at the national and international level. Then I went to college and grad school in science. Pretty much, science has been my life! For any of your science need
s, with a special focus on astronomy and geology (earth sciences), I'm here to help. I can assist with physics, biology, chemistry and math (algebra, pre-calc, calculus). Given my experience in public speaking, the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Powerpoint, Word) and writing, I can assist with that as well!

If you're interested in creative lessons - with a true focus on your learning experience, I'm your tutor! Often times when working out in the field in extreme locations (e.g., Antarctica and Mt. Everest), I have to MacGyver solutions on the fly. I want to teach you how to think. This skill will serve you well, long into the future.

About Susannah
My name is Susannah Storie and I teach English and Arabic. I studied both at the University of Arkansas. I majored in English and minored in Arabic - that is 30 credit hours of Modern Standard Arabic. I also spent time in the Middle East teaching English to kids and studying Arabic. This is beneficial because I not only know and understand Arabic grammar, but I also know and understand colloquial levantine/shami Arabic dialect.

I taught English by emersion to students who only spoke Arabic and on the week nights, I took Arabic lessons. I can teach the Arabic alphabet and basic grammar. This will help with pronunciation and the formation of sentences. It is a great foundation and I welcome anyone who wants to learn as little or as much Arabic as they like!

English is my native language and I have spent time teaching it as a second
language before (ESL). I like to use the Growing Participator Approach in my lessons but this will take time dedication. The GPA is an approach that teaches language the way we learn it naturally as babies. As you "grow" in the language, it will become internalized as language does as we grow up.

I also studied English grammar and literature in college, spend quite a bit of time writing, and actually enjoy wiring essays. I would love to teach you how to write an effective essay that you'll actually enjoy writing!

About Mandy
I'm currently a first grade teacher and have been since 2017. I received my Masters in Childhood Education in 2016, and my Bachelors in English in 2014. I have been working with students to achieve their academic goals since 2014.
As a volunteer reading tutor for 2 years, I've helped and guided students towards increasing their overall reading skills and comprehension. I've also been a teaching assistant in a 3rd grade classroom, working with students one-on-one to strengthen their skills across all subjects, as well as their test taking strategies.
As part of my graduate teaching program, I had the opportunity to teach at a camp where we explored topics in Math, Science, Reading, Art and robotics through fun and engaging activities. I love to teach reading, and I tell my students that learning a new skill is like having a secret conver
sation with the author, where you learn more and more about what you read!
I continue to engage tactics in my classroom. I strive to give students strategies they can apply independently to strengthen
their understanding of big ideas and key concepts. My goal is to work with students to improve on their strengths so that they feel confident in their academic abilities, and also zooming in on what they struggle with, and providing them with effective strategies to help them be successful!
I believe that any student can find great achievement, with the right tools and guidance.
