I am a volleyball camp director, volleyball trainer and club coach. I live in Roanoke, Virginia. After 32.5 years as a school math teacher, I retired in 2013.

My staff and I have directed 85 camps in the past 7 years. We are directing 13 in the summer of 2017. My staff and I also give about 40 hours of private lessons each month.

I have coached club volleyball since 1991. My teams have qualified for USAV Junior Nationals 4 times.

My stepdaughter played 4 years of D1 volleyball at Radford University.

I was the head coach at Bassett High School for 16 years from 1985 - 2000, winning 267 matches while losing only 47. While at Bassett, my teams won 11 conference championships and 10 regular season championships. They qualified for the Regional Tournament 15 of those 16 years.

I was the head coach at Roanoke Catholic,
where I took the team from 1 win the year before he started, to 9 wins in 2002 and to 13 wins in 2003.

My 1999 team advanced to the final 4 in the state tournament. Also in 1999, I was named a VHSL All-Star Coach, and was named Roanoke Times "Timesland Volleyball Coach of the Year".

I founded & directed the Piedmont Attack Junior Program from 1991 until 2000.

I am presently the 6th winning-est coach in Virginia with nearly 280 varsity high school coaching victories. Sixty-two of my former players have played college volleyball.

Mrs. Jen has been a violin teacher for our daughter for 3.5 years. She is an extremely qualified and talented musician who deeply cares about her students and is committed to teaching. She is kind and patient, but also effective and motivating. When our 8 year old daughter learned Mrs. Jen was moving she said, "I probably will never have as neat or special of a violin teacher as Mrs. Jen"- and she's right!

First lesson was fine. We took a few minutes to find each other in a cafe setting but as it was also a meet and greet session I wasn't too concerned about time. As it turns out Beth more than made up the time. She's very pleasant and easy to speak with. We went over my goals, simple traveler type words, phrases and questions, and a work schedule to cover the next several weeks. Beth told me how she was going to approach teaching me after listening to my goals. I'm looking forward to the next session where we can focus on learning the language.

Palig is truly an exceptional teacher. It's evident that she genuinely cares that each of her students excel. She has a strong academic background from Wellesley College and has experience tutoring recently through private tutoring as well as through her experience at Huntington Tutoring and Learning Center, as well as through Mission Hill After School Program. Her experience in this field without a doubt distinguishes her from other tutors. I strongly recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor in these subject areas.

I've worked with Palig for several months now as part of Boston Junior Derby. She has been teaching our very introductory roller skating course.

She is incredibly patient with girls of all ages, and breaks down skater mechanics in a very clear and concise way. The kids love her and tell all of the other coaches all the time that she's their favorite. #nottakingitpersonally

I am a fun-loving, calm, and patient person, skilled in teaching students of all ages and communicating with them. I started playing music at the age of five when my mother signed me up for piano lessons. While in elementary school, I have participated in several NYSMA festivals and talent shows in the area.

In middle school, I attended Nathaniel Hawthorne MS74 where I learned to play the oboe, and received my ABRSM Grade 5 Piano and music theory qualifications. I participated in the Queensborough-wide senior band and performed as an oboist at Carnegie Hall on June 2010.

During high school, I attended the Bronx High School of Science and also received my ABRSM Grade 8 Piano qualification. I also volunteered at Queens Library's Bayside Branch, teaching reading, grammar, writing, mathematics, and basic chess to children.

In recent
years I have been attending the City College of CUNY and am currently pursuing my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Also, I have started composing/arranging pieces on the Musescore platform.

I do not see teaching as simply repeating what has been already detailed in text books and lectures. Everyone’s mind is different and thus everyone has a unique perception to understanding one issue or another. Things are better illustrated with an example.

A while back, there was a television show hosted by a T.V. personality named Monty Hall. In the show, Monty presented a contestant with 3 closed doors. Behind one door was a new car. And behind each of the other two doors was a goat. The contestant had the option to choose one door so as to win the new car.

The probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 or door 3 was the same, about 33.33%. Let us say that the contestant picked door 1. Monty would then open one of the other two doors that were not chosen by the contestant. There were 3 terms in the game: 1) Monty knew what w
as behind each door; 2) Monty cannot open the door that was already chosen by the contestant; 3) Monty would only open a door that hides a goat.

Let us say Monty opened door 3 revealing a goat. Monty then asked the contestant if the contestant would like to switch to door 2 or keep his original choice of door 1. Contestants would be bewildered not knowing really what to do. Was it better to keep the originally choice or was it better to switch or it would make no difference whether to keep the original choice or switch?

Meet Marilyn vos Savant. Marilyn wrote a column called “Ask Marilyn” in a newspaper called Parade. Marilyn was known for having one of the highest recorded IQ. A reader sent Marilyn a letter asking her if it was better to switch or not to switch. Marilyn stated in her column that a contestant should switch since switching doubled the contestant’s chances of winning. Many of Marilyn’s readers erupted in protest including readers with Ph.D., mathematicians, and academicians. Most people believed that the probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 was the same of 50%.

This became known as The Monty Hall Problem or The Monty Hall Paradox. Articles and books were written over this problem. Actually Marilyn was right and this was proven using computer simulation. Yet until today many people cannot understand that switching doubles the chances of winning.

At first glance this paradox might seem irrelevant to teaching. But I think it does. This paradox tutor the mind in the subject of structured thinking which is very important in learning.

Algebra/Maths is all about getting the basics right! Think of a cylinder with weak base... that can't stand on its own.. that's how I was one day. Then I met an instructor who taught me importance of going slow and solidifying the base before we add more building blocks! This is why I love teaching middle/early high schoolers who are forming the base of their high-flying careers!
