My long-term goal is to become an undergraduate professor and practicing psychologist at a university setting. Yet, my ultimate love is teaching. As a tutor, I enjoy making a genuine difference in the lives of students who have the potential to succeed in school, but just need that individualized attention to boost their level of understanding in subjects, level of comfort in subjects, and their level of concentration/ focus. In addition, I have special experience working with a range of students including those with Learning Disabilities such as Dyscalculia, Dyslexia, ADHD, and Autism spectrum disorder. Nikisha was very professional, patient and nice all at the same time. She went over everything I needed to know and learn slowly and even went over the time limit just to make sure I was ok with the lesson. I’m so glad I found her and would definitely recommend and come again.
Shonda P.
My daughter and I are very happy and pleased with the class my daughter had today with Nikisha. The knowledge and skill that she uses to teach teens how to properly take care of their skin on top of how to properly apply makeup the correct way and not going over the top is wonderful. She helped my daughter feel more confident in her technique when applying makeup. She answered all questions that my daughter asked. Nikisha was very professional and I appreciate her craft and time today just simply amazing!!

I specialize in helping students with their analytical and personal essay writing. This includes college admission essays, academic papers, and personal essays.

About Andrea

I am a comedy writer and screenwriter based in Brooklyn, NY. I specialize in creative writing, academic writing, and college admissions essays. Whether you or your child wants to improve their writing, loves writing but experiences writer's block or an inability to actually DO the writing, or w

Andrea works at the Writing Center at Grace Church School, a leading independent high school in lower Manhattan. I've taught there for the last couple years and make a point to send my students to the Writing Center (and her specifically, whenever possible) if they are struggling with any areas of their writing.

I've observed her in the Writing Center on a number of occasions, and she always does a great job navigating the difficult balance between helping students directly, and creating a path for them to work through questions on their own. She is direct, but supportive. She also is very perceptive of students' anxiety levels - many are kids who tend to stress about college and grades often - and how to change her tone, or comment with a personal anecdote, when what the student needs most is a moment to laugh or calm down.

Andrea's best skill in my opinion is teaching her tutees to adjust their priorities based on a deadline. She consults students whose papers are due in a couple of hours, and others who have a whole week left, and without being preachy gets across realistic expectations of what can be done within the timeframe.

Andrea connected with my daughter right away, encouraging her to push her writing in more creative directions. Andrea brought her bright personality to each lesson, making the writing process fun for my daughter. Together, they worked on her college admissions essay and a few English class assignments. Andrea helped my daughter overcome her writer's block and anxiety about writing to craft more personal, thoughtful essays. We are very pleased with the results!
Josh
My daughter had a great experience with Andrea as a writing tutor. Andrea helped her with her college admissions essay and she is attending Vassar in the fall - very pleased. Andrea is very patient, punctual, and has helped Claire gain confidence in her writing.

When I was 9, I won a Mother's Day poem-writing contest. My first thought: "I can't believe no one else entered."

Several decades later, I *still* don't know if that's why I won, but now that I'm the published author of 80+ books for children, I do know this: writing creatively is an adventure.

It's also a must. If you are going to write at all, write with flair! (You would eat a bowl of ice cream as is, but if offered a topping, wouldn't you take it?) It makes the experience more delicious for the reader, but also for YOU, the writer. The entertainer!

This is not your typical writing session. High impact. Low stress. I make it fun and funny. My writing challenges are unlike any you've done. If you're an avid writer, this is for you. If you're a reluctant writer, same! I've worked with all kinds of kids.

Each session will involve lively discussion and mind-blowing tips...you won't want it to end. So let's get started!

About Marc

When I was your age, my parents forced me to take judo. And guitar. And computing programming. And writing. But before I tried those activities, I did not know which I would like. I thought I would like guitar, but I didn't. I did not think I would like writing THAT much, but I did.

We find different methods and models to encourage the connection between understanding problems and developing solution-oriented mindsets. Students develop greater awareness, approach, and integration of algebra both for their classes as well as the use in practical "real time" (i.e. life application).

Telling Your Story: Why Your Personal Narrative Matters
