Math is great because there's always one specific answer! My goal with students is to help them understand the path from a problem to its solution. Math is a tool to help develop reasoning and solution seeking skills.

The unique thing that sets me apart as a tutor in any subject is that I first work with the student, and I gently guide them to find the answer on their own.

About Joshua
I am a tutor who earned a music teaching degree, substitute taught, and didn't become a school teacher. I held professional tech retail jobs and am supplementing my life with my passion - education.

Whatever subject or instrument I teach, I celebrate students' successes; and I enjoy helping learners have new aha moments.

The majority of my students take guitar, bass guitar, or Spanish lessons. I am an educator and help my students learn other skills and knowledge sets too.

I went to Ohio State University for college, earned a BA in Music Education, and graduated Cum Laude. I also spent 4 years in the Ohio State University Marching Band.

Through my healing journey, I've developed patience, insight, and understanding for my students' learning processes.

I'm excited to help you incorporate new skills into your life!

Our son first time playing bassoon. Base on my son experience, he find Joshua to be very nice, patients, and explains a lot of information. It help him understand about the instrument and the sound when he play. He do have a sense of humor which help my son to have fun and be more comfortable. He also teaches other instruments, too. Highly recommended to everyone!!!!

In search of helping our 10 year old son build some self-confidence we sought out clarinet lessons this summer. He started playing in school last year, and it was something our reluctant son liked "enough" to want to build up some competency. Joshua has been amazing! He finds just the right amount of challenge to encourage my son to practice, but not get discouraged. My son looks forward to his lesson each week and told me that he isn't even sure he wants to switch to saxophone next year because he is having so much fun playing the clarinet. Joshua is amazing with children, and has spent time getting to know our kiddo and find out what will work best for him. Patient, calm, and inspiring--very talented instructor.

~~~ My Education & Credentials ~~~
Growing up in the Bay Area, I lived Cupertino & Fremont and attended Stevens Creek Elementary School and Hopkins Junior High School. I am a UCLA graduate in science and math with the second highest honors (Magna Cum Laude, 10-time Dean's Honors List). I had a cumulative GPA of 3.838 with 265.5 completed units at graduation and was a 10-time Dean's Honors List Recipient. I also was a member of the UCLA Regents Scholar Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies, the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society, and Christian Students at UCLA. I worked as a TA for several undergraduate classes at UCLA, including Education 92F and Life Sciences 2-3. I also have gone through some UCLA and Stanford University graduate-level coursework in science, math, English, educational strategies, and curriculum & instruction.
I have scored at the 98th percentile on the SAT I/II tests and received the highest score of 5 on multiple AP exams (see below for more details) as a high school student, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. I have been the recipient of over $350,000 worth of many university merit-based invitational and scholarship honors and awards. Some of the most notable scholarships I have been awarded are the Regents Scholarship from both UCLA and UCSB. Both provided me with a large monetary award (full-ride), priority enrollment, 4 years of room and board, and many other privileges, honors, and incentives.
The SAT examinations that I have scored at 98th percentile or higher are as follows: SAT I; SAT II - Math 2; and SAT II - Biology (M). I also took many AP exams during high school, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. Some of the exams that I have taken (with scores) include: AP Physics B (5); AP Chemistry (5); AP Biology (5); AP Calculus AB (5); AP Statistics (5); AP US Government & Politics (5). I continuously study and retake the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams to stay on par with both the big and small changes each year to the exams.
~~~ My Personal Message to You ~~~

One of the wisest teachers once said that poor grades, study habits, and test scores are not life-threatening, but they are college-, job- , career-, and quality-of-life threatening. The most competitive students take a pro-active approaching to academics and tutoring while the least competitive take a reactive approach. All you need to do is watching the documentary 'Two Million Minutes' by Bob Compton to realize why students in other countries such as India and China surpass American peers in almost every subject, especially language (writing, grammar, etc.), math, science, and engineering-related subjects. They attend extra classes and tutoring from 6-7 AM in the morning to almost midnight.

In today's fast-paced and competitive job market, there is simply too much to lose by not investing now in your child's or your education. If a student is struggling, it makes sense to get him/her the help needed so that the time spent in school is worthwhile. Great grades and test scores can open doors that may have been previously closed and are also significant factors when determining scholarships, so investing time and effort now can pay off substantially in the future. Finally, let's not forget the most important part in all of this: the student. The confidence, knowledge, and skills that a student gains through effective tutoring can last a lifetime.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch. Every day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you might potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test/exam score that will only make it harder to recover from. I have had too many students who could have received the grade(s) they wanted had they contacted me from the beginning.

I am a chemical engineer and as an engineer, you can never ignore maths because Mathematics is the language of physical science and engineering, Mathematics is more than tool for solving problems; mathematics courses can develop intellectual maturity. Mathematics is a part of everyone's life. Every student should experience the thrill of mathematical discovery. Every teacher can appreciate the elegance of a great mathematical insight.I also offer tutoring services in Prealgebra, Algebra 1;2, Pre calculus, Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry.My experience in tutoring Maths have led me to compile my own practice sheets in each topic that has helped the students in so many years. My teaching philosophy is straightforward: teach your students as you would want to be taught - with enthusiasm, and with a passion for the subject combined with respect and understanding for the students. When teaching maths I make sure that the basics are grasped well because this is the only subject that ...

About Alisha
I have been tutoring for over 8 years now, My teaching philosophy is straightforward: teach your students as you would want to be taught - with enthusiasm, and with a passion for the subject combined with respect and understanding for the student. Chemistry and maths is a subject that I have studied, practiced, taught and enjoyed over the last 8 years Effective teaching involves time, dedication, patience, understanding, firmness, and a sense of humor. True learning incorporates active participation by the student, inside as well as outside the classroom.

Guiding students through the maze of chemical symbols, equations and concepts can only be accomplished by giving the students the means and opportunity to take charge of their own learning reinforced by an appropriate reward system. My main focus is to teach in a way that will re
ach all my students. I enjoy the challenge of working not only with different learning styles, but very different backgrounds, from honors students to students who have taken the course unsuccessfully before. Chemistry is difficult for most students, therefore they must be able to make mistakes, learn from them, and in the end be rewarded for their efforts and the chemical knowledge they acquired.
For a truly successful learning community, the importance of open two-way communication is emphasized in my class.This only happens if there is mutual respect.

My philosophy inextricably entwines my enthusiasm and passion for the subject of chemistry and maths with my respect and high regard for all students irrespective of their grades. It is particularly rewarding when students become majors or minors because of my class, which happens on occasion, or go on into professional school.

Alisha is extremely well-informed and an expert in Organic Chemistry. She knows exactly what she is talking about and, more importantly, *understands* it and can articulate the concepts in a way that is easy to comprehend. She is patient with me and is willing to go slowly on practice problems so I can fully grasp the concepts and theory. I would hire Alisha again in a heartbeat.

I am currently a senior at Avila University, studying mathematics and finance. I am currently a tutor, but I plan on mastering in math and teaching at the collegiate level. I specialize in basic math, algebra, calculus, geometry, logic, statistics, and more. All ages and math levels are welcome. I do not believe in one way to teach all, I will personally customize and cater to the needs/goals of each student. I will be sure to make sure each student has a solid foundation for math so as they grow in the future they can build on the skills they already have.

About Cydney
I am a senior at Avila University studying math and finance. I plan on continuing my education and mastering in math with hopes to become a collegiate mathematics professor. I have been tutoring every level of math since 2014, giving me a wide variety of topics that I could help with. I truly have a passion for education, math, and helping others.

The students I teach can expect to be taught in teaching styles that relate directly to them. My goals with each student is to make sure there is a basic knowledge that is necessary for every level of math, but more importantly, the ability to problem solve analytically and be able to apply that to any of their course work (including tests).

I am a student athlete, so I understand what it's like to be very busy and on the go and to feel like you're drowning in homework that you just don't
understand. That is why I am willing to be very flexible to schedules and to come prepared and ready to help. Whether that 30 minutes or 3 hours.
