About Nicole
Hi my name is Nicole; I have over 25 years of teaching experience. (I began teaching beginner students while I was in high school) and I myself began classical piano training at the age of 8 and continued through college. I also studied music theory, ear training and sight reading.
As a student, I participated in yearly NYSSMA competitions, performed in recitals and National Music Guild competitions as well. Following my passion made my decision to major in music the obvious choice. I wound up being the recipient of the first Ralph V. Ritchie Music Memorial Scholarship at Nassau Community College (which needless to say was a huge honor). I studied under Rose Tanner, who was a member of the Juliard faculty, performing many piano solo recitals as well as singing madrigals in a quartet. I truly loved what I was doing. I went on as a perfor
mance major at West Chester University in P.A. for three semesters and it was there that I realized that I wanted to teach piano. I've always been extremely creative and patient, so I thought teaching piano would be a perfect fit for me and it turned out that I was right! I also have had many other jobs working with children, such as being a camp counselor and a nanny for several different families and now I’m a mom as well ! I decided I wanted to write and perform my own music in an original band as well. So I decided to leave West Chester and began several of my own original musical projects and solo performance acts. I've played the piano/keyboard, wrote music/lyrics, sang lead and backup vocals or did a combination of the above.
During this time I worked closely with other advanced teachers and musicians to gain other methods, styles and techniques of playing and teaching music. I found out very quickly that playing a keyboard while standing up is both stylistically and technically different then sitting at the piano,
I'm patient, creative, positive and fun to work with and I really enjoy teaching. I love working with children and I'm passionate about passing my love of music along to my students. I also love to explore improvisation with students and song writing if the student and parents(s) are interested. I myself try to always be open to change and growth. I feel that if you think you already know everything, that you’re not open to learning..and should be).
If you feel your child and I would be a good fit, please feel free to call me. I'm always open for questions and conversation. :~)

*** Lesson Details ***
I specialize in teaching classical piano to students of all ages, including extensive experience in teaching autistic, special-needs and disabled children.
Sensitive to individual needs and abilities, I prepare students with curriculum, lesson plans and weekly assignments on a one-on-one basis.
Curriculum may include technique, sight reading, theory, ear training, scales, NYSSMA and performance/recital preparation. Working with both students and their parents together we can determine individual goals for each student.
Scheduling is maintained and coordinated to accommodate students and their families.
In the first three to six months, my intention is to instill a good practice ethic.
Students will be positive and motivated towards playing their instrument.
They will have a basic understanding of theory, scales and technique.
Additionally, students will be able to play a small repertoire of pieces.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, my lessons are organized, productive and most of all - fun!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in a recording studio. Where you have a choice of an acoustic upright piano or a digital Yamaha keyboard. I also own a farfisa organ and a moog synthesizer.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I always try to get a feeling from each individual student as to which series of beginner books will work best for them. Obviously if the student is more advanced (and already working on a specific piece) please bring that with you to the lesson. There are so many beginner books to start out with. I like to have a lesson book, a theory book and a technic book as well. Once the student has learned the basics, I like to occasionally let them choose a fun song (pop or rock) as a reward for working on the classical criteria that I prefer. I find it helps keep them motivated to plat their favorite songs to their friends and have some fun. (even though that would be work as well).

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical music for piano study. I have taught the Suzuki method with a few very young students. I have also taught other styles such as rock and roll , some Broadway songs and top 40 upon request. I also teach some students different styles of songwriting techniques.

About Steven
Since 1998, I have taught students of all ages in multiple genres. Many of my alumni have gone on to become voice and music theatre majors at some of the most prestigious programs in the USA, as well as becoming professional performing and recording artists all around the world, so I have gone online so that I can reach out to my students anywhere on Earth!

Online lessons allow us to work together without having to waste time traveling to my studio, not to mention wasting money on transit, tolls, gas or parking. Additionally, it has allowed me to offer my lessons for considerably less than I did "in-person." In addition to singing lessons, I've also worked with online students on monologues, on-camera instructional videos and voiceovers.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

My daughter has expressed a love for music and singing from a very early age. As a parent, I thought she had a beautiful voice and that was confirmed by a good friend of mine who recommended me to Steven. I started Olivia with Steven when she was 9 years old. Through his instruction and guidance her voice has grown tremendously. She was awarded a major role as a 5th grader in her school play and then went on to be the lead as a 6th and 7th grader. She was the youngest student in the history of the school to earn a lead role.

Olivia also auditioned for the Paper Mill Playhouse Summer Conservatory and was accepted for their August Intensive program. I have no doubt that it was Steven's teaching that helped her with her audition that gained her acceptance.

Olivia is now 12 and as a young person, needs to learn how to interpret a song so that she can perform it well. Steven takes the time to teach the MEANING of the words and explains the story that is trying to be told. This was very important for Olivia to learn.

I highly recommend working with Steven. He is a fabulous teacher with a lot of knowledge and insight.

She worked with me on an assignment I had in English. I had to rewrite a fairy tale, fable, or folklore. She used hip-hop music lyrics to show me how easy it would be to give these older stories a modern flare. She is awesome and I got a good grade on my assignment.

About Isabela
I'm an enthusiastic learner even after 19 years of formal education (two Masters, one Bachelor) earned on two continents continued by US military education in various forms, and formally tested student who needed to document skills that were not formally captured on paper (like the foreign languages I know).

I love interacting with people and pass on my knowledge from five visited continents, instill love for learning and continuous curiosity for any subject out there. Nothing is impossible when you set your mind to it. Failing once doesn't mean that you'll never win (proof in my athletic years and life ever since); determination, hard work, self-motivation and a good supporting system can bring to reality even the most insignificant dreams that we believe may not come true, and especially those in which we passionately trust.

I be
lieve in breaking down a goal into objectives, assigning tasks to each one of them, and then sticking to achieve them.

I'm a Certified Instructor with the Department of Homeland Security. My hobbies include practicing foreign languages by speaking them, learning about cultures and slangs, etymology, watching foreign movies, traveling internationally, taking photos, reading (a lot), carefully planning with room for error and impulsive decisions (to take the boredom out of things), meeting with life long friends, drawing, painting, and spending time outdoors for inspiration.

I'm elated at the opportunity of brainstorming with you and giving you tools to be an independent learner.

About Stefan
Info for the students:

Hi there. My name is Stefan. You can also call me Mr. Maurer if you prefer.

I am really excited to be able to teach you about Math. Math is something I find joy in and am very passionate about.

One of my fondest memories was when my dad used to take me to stores, and if I could guess correctly what the change would be after he paid, I could keep the change.

One day he had only bought an item around a couple dollars and he had paid with a 20 dollar bill. Two things happened that day: I got almost 18 dollars. And, my dad never played that game again (because he did not want something like that to happen again, where I would make off with a lot of money, lol).

I would love the opportunity to teach you the math skills I know, and to get you just as excited about math as I am.

My classes
are fun, and full of energy as well as knowledge. I guarantee that you will learn a lot, and have a great time doing so. 🤣

Info for the parents:

I am an individual who finds math fun, and energizing. I find it fascinating at how many different formulas exist, and how there are often multiple ways of deducing the same problem and finding the solution.

I can help lead my students into finding the best formula that works for them/they are able to understand. I can guide them towards finding the solution on their own, rather than someone just telling them the answer.

What I feel sets me apart from other math teachers, is that I excel with communicating with other individuals who face mental health challenges such as ADHD and Aspergers Syndrome/Autism Spectrum. I have been certified in the state of Georgia for over 2 years now as a CPS-Y (Certified Peer Specialist-Youth).

I, myself have Aspergers Syndrome and ADHD. So, I can 100% relate to a lot of the challenges my students may face in regards to math skills and providing an effective learning environment. The reason I call these challenges, and not disabilities, is since people can overcome challenges.

While it may be difficult, I have the confidence required to bring out the best in my students, since I, myself, have had lived experiences where I have overcome challenges, and tore down obstacles, despite having Aspergers Syndrome and ADHD.

I would love the opportunity to teach my students math and have them also find joy in the math I am so passionate about. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I am actually a well-established instructor here on TakeLessons and was thrilled to find out Stefan Maurer is teaching Math online! Stefan is everything he describes. I should know - he is my nephew. I have personally witnessed countless scenarios of Stefan making mathematical calculations which far exceeded his grade level.

Stefan is patient, kind, full of encouragement and pays great attention to detail, which is crucial in math. He also excels with students who have ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome or are on the Autism spectrum.

It is with great confidence that I highly recommend Stefan Maurer!

About Mandy
I'm currently a first grade teacher and have been since 2017. I received my Masters in Childhood Education in 2016, and my Bachelors in English in 2014. I have been working with students to achieve their academic goals since 2014.
As a volunteer reading tutor for 2 years, I've helped and guided students towards increasing their overall reading skills and comprehension. I've also been a teaching assistant in a 3rd grade classroom, working with students one-on-one to strengthen their skills across all subjects, as well as their test taking strategies.
As part of my graduate teaching program, I had the opportunity to teach at a camp where we explored topics in Math, Science, Reading, Art and robotics through fun and engaging activities. I love to teach reading, and I tell my students that learning a new skill is like having a secret conver
sation with the author, where you learn more and more about what you read!
I continue to engage tactics in my classroom. I strive to give students strategies they can apply independently to strengthen
their understanding of big ideas and key concepts. My goal is to work with students to improve on their strengths so that they feel confident in their academic abilities, and also zooming in on what they struggle with, and providing them with effective strategies to help them be successful!
I believe that any student can find great achievement, with the right tools and guidance.

Sanchita is one of the best tutors that I have had the pleasure to study from. She not only saved me from failing my biochemistry course which I absolutely abhorred, but inculcated an immense interest in the subject in me. It's truly amazing how she breaks down the most complex concepts into smaller bits so that they are easy to understand.
She is a great mentor as well as a great human being. Apart from strengthening my fundamentals in biochemistry she also aided in honing my soft skills.
