I tutor grade school kids and increase their interest in the subject, be it reading, writing or math. Keeping the child interested in what they are learning and curious to learn more propels them toward higher learning in the future.
My instruction extends nationwide, with students from all corners of the US, utilizing online tutoring services such as Skype.
My main field of study is in MATH (trig, algebra, geometry, precalculus), CHEMISTRY (high school and college), and PHYSICS (high school and college).
I completed my Bachelors in Physics and Mathematics Education at Hunter University and have gained experience with both in-person and online group instruction and curriculum development.
Some examples of the students I have tutored are: Elementary school students preparing for State competitions and exams; High school and College students in preparance for entrance exams, and in subjects such as algebra, geom
I do Regents and SAT/ACT prep for these subjects as well as the GRE (These are NYS based High School Preparatory Exams - do not hesitate to ask should you need assistance with the ones offered in your state/country).
In addition, I am thorough and meticulous, by paying special attention to how the student grasps information and retains it, I prepare individualized handwritten reviews, with supplemental material found online and in texts.
I assign homework to keep my students ahead of what is going on in class, and a visual and intuitive understanding of the concepts I present is important to me, so I use visual aids (diagrams and interactive models) to help my students integrate what they learn with me in real life situations.
My instruction includes:
1. Tutoring based on the school curriculum
2. Instruction on the home-schooling curriculum
3. Assisting those with a gap in going back to school/university.
I start with an assessment based on what the student has trouble with or last remembers covering in school, and prepare material going from there.
As a result, my students all have improved grades without any need for cramming before tests, and I encourage a stress-free and easygoing learning environment.
My lessons are fun and enthusiastic - these subjects are beautiful and will help open your mind to new ways of thinking - whatever your field of study!

I see marked improvements in their grades for this past year, and my eldest is actually skipping fourth grade as a result of lessons. I am astounded as to my girls' progress, and greatly appreciative of our tutor's expertise.
Her patient, methodical approach to teaching is why I see us remaining with her for all of our educational instruction. She has already taught arithmetic to my youngest (3rd grade), and algebra to my eldest (starting 5th this sept!), and is proceeding with more advanced math with no issue whatsoever. I cannot recommend her enough.

I have experience tutoring many types of math ranging from 3rd grade to calculus. I enjoy helping students visualize and grasp firmer understandings of concepts. I find that most students are able to master material quickly once I give them the one-on-one attention that they do not get in the classroom.
I started tutoring while earning my Music Engineering degree (B.S.) from the University of Miami. I studied jazz guitar at UM and during my many years as a guitarist I have performed genres from folk to metal to pop.
Most of my tutoring experience during college focused on math courses, SAT prep and music theory.
I am great with kids; I taught summer camps at a town-run skatepark for 4 summers.
Shoot me a message to see if we are a good fit!

I like to approach math topics in multiple ways so the student can not only understand the topic but also start to develop their own methods to approach new topics with confidence.

I stress understanding rather than memorizing formulas. This ensures my students can derive formulas/solutions even without memorization.
I know firsthand how difficult it is to learn programming whether you are a total newbie, or a budding intermediate, but I have overcame these challenges myself and will guide you to overcome them too. I also have 3 years of tutoring experience, which will surely come in handy!
I enjoy tutoring and helping other overcome problems that I have encountered myself because it enhances my own understanding and makes me happy that my self-studying is helping others. Sometimes, my students even bring up alternative ways of thinking that I have never thought of before!

Having someone to bounce various approaches to a problem really helped me understand how to solve the exercises as opposed to just memorizing the solutions

I have taught or tutored math for decades. My approach is different than other math teachers in that I have students first write the words for all of the steps. This method helps students see why they are they doing a step and why can they do a step. Most math teachers work example after example and expect the student to learn inductively. I teach deductively and students, especially ones who have struggled in math, do very well with this new method.
I teach grade school through college and the approach I use has been very helpful for students who have had trouble in math. I have students write the steps with words instead of just working examples.
A student recently wrote:
Mr. Diss took my hardest subject and broke it down so it was easier to understand. He shows clear examples of how to the problems and if I didn’t understand something he was quick to respond to my emails. I hones
If you're stuck on concepts or just feeling totally overwhelmed by math in general, let's work together to find a way for these concepts to make sense and feel relevant for YOU. Once they click, they click, and I think you'll find that understanding and solidifying some foundational concepts will make the rest of your coursework much more manageable.
SINGING AND MUSIC LESSONS: In addition to providing technical training, I believe that singing is about liberation and expression, and have had successes in helping students to find their unique voices through overcoming vocal anxieties. I both work with students who are preparing for auditions and who play in professional bands, and also with students who have only ev
For those in bands: I specialize in harmony and can do consultation sessions with you and/or your band to help with blending, finding harmonies that work for your respective vocal ranges and for the flow of the song, and teaching skills for finding and building harmonies.
MATH: As a middle and high school student, I didn't believe I was "good" at math. It wasn't until I was an adult and was hired as a math tutor - and later promoted to Assistant Director - of a tutoring company that I realized that was a belief that had held me back. Many kids and young adults struggle with confidence around math, and having had experience with that myself I use tools that help meet students where they're at and support them in building enthusiasm for math and confidence in themselves. In addition to providing tangible math skills (I have not only been tutoring Algebra, Geometry, SAT prep, elementary and middle school math for 5 years, but have also helped run a math tutoring company in which I built year-long curricula for grades K-12), I help students feel that math is within their grasp and can be approached with curiosity rather than fear and low self-esteem.

I struggled with math for many years. I still vividly remember crying in fifth grade because I really didn't understand long division.
Fast forward nine years, and with some really amazing mentors in my life, I'd managed to get myself placed in the most advanced track for mathematics. By the end of my Junior Year, I had finished college-level calculus, and didn't have to take a math my Senior year.
I learned to really understand and then enjoy the principles of math. (I even wrote a song called "Calculus“ haha).
The point is, I get what it's like to not really get math, but I also get what it's like when it clicks well. Either way, I can help you get to the next level!
What does this mean for you? It means that you'll have someone who has an extremely thorough understanding of BOTH languages build off what you already know (complete with personalized analogies, appropriate stories to help you remember, and specific tonal and pronunciation pointers).
I also just love the Chinese and their culture. I'm really spunky but dedicated, and I have an amazing work ethic. I'm so excited to learn with you!
